Be it remembered that from a consideration of the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death That I Thomas Paddock of Fredericks town in the county of Dutchess and State of New york being of sound mind and memory have on this twenty third day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety one and in the sixteenth year of Independence of the United States America made and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say first of all it is my will and I do hereby declare that all my Just debts and funeral charges be duly and lawfully paid Then I give and bequeath to my wife Sarah all such of the goods and chattels to which I became entitled in consequence of marriage contract with her which may be in my possission at the time of my decease and I do otherwise release and relinquish to my said wife to her own proper use and to be disposed of at her Pleasure all claim and demands on any kind of property lying or being in the county of westchester or else where to which or the use of which she had a right as of dower or any other wise previous to or at the time of her entering into a marriage contract with me and further more I give and bequeath to my said wife Sarah one riding horse of the value of fifteen pounds or such sum otherwise paid to her satisfaction together with two milks cows and six sheep and it is also my will that my said wife Sarah may enjoy occupy and possess the one third part of my real estate or landed property during her natural life Then I give and bequeath to my Nephew Thomas Chapman all and singular my real estate or landed property which may remain after the payment of my debts Then I give and bequeath to my said Nephew Thomas Chapman and to my Niece Elisabeth the wife of William Younge to be equally divided between them the said Thomas and Elisabeth all and singular my movable estate and it is furthermore my will and I do hereby order that so much of my landed property be sold as may be necessary for the payment of all my debts leaving my personal property to the use of those to whom it is hereby bequeathed and given and I do hereby appoint my said Nephew Thomas Chapman as my executor to execute this my last will and testament whom I hereby authorize to sell and dispose of so much of my lands as may be sufficient for the payment of my debts as before expressed in testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written N.B. the word (which may remain after the payment of my debts interlined between the 30th & 31st lines of the first page before sealing Thomas Paddock [L.S.} signed sealed published and pronounced to be my last will and testament in the presence of Ira Crane Ebenezer Wixon Joseph Crane

Dutchess county Be it remembered that on the twenty sixth day of February one thousand seven hundred and ninety nine personally appeared before me Gilbert Livingston surrogate of the said county Ira Crane of the town of Southeast in said county inn keeper who on his oath declared that he did see Thomas Paddock sign and seal the annexed written instrument purporting to be the will of the said Thomas Paddock bearing date the twenty third day of June one thousand seven hundred and ninety one and heard him publish and declare the same as and for the last will and testament that at the time thereof he the said Thomas Paddock was of sound disposing mind and memory to the best of the knowledge and belief of him the deponent and that Ebenezer Wixon Joseph Crane and the deponent severally subscribed the said will as witness thereto in the testators presence Gilbert Livingston [L.S.]
The people of the State of New York by the grace of God free and independent all to whom these presents shall come or may concern send Greeting Know that at Poughkeepsie in Dutchess county on the twenty sixth day of February one thousand seven hundred and ninety nine before Gilbert Livingston Esq. Surrogate of our said county the last will and testament of Thomas Paddock deceased (a copy whereof is hereunto annexed) was proved and is now approved and allowed of by us and the said deceased having when he lived and at the time of his death goods chattels or credits within this State by means whereof the proving and registering the said will and the granting administration of all and singular the said goods chattels and credits and also the auditing allowing and final discharging the account thereof doth belong unto us the administration of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased in any way concerning his will is granted unto Thomas Chapman the executor in the said will named he being first duly sworn will and faithfully to administer the same and to make and exhibit a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the said goods chattels and credits and also to render a just and true account thereof when thereunto required In testimony whereof we have caused the seal of office of our said surrogate to be hereunto affixed Witness Gilbert Livingston Esquire surrogate of the said county at poughkeepsie the eleventh day of March in the year of our lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety nine and of our Independence the twenty third Gilbert Livingston
