I am looking for the family of my great-grandfather, Otis Wing Matthewson. His obit stated that he was born in Smyria, Chenango County, NY in 1837. He left by the age of 18 and settled in DeKalb County, Illinois. The records there are good but I am trying to backtrack the Smyria line. We know that both Otis and Wing were family names of related families, the names having been used repeatedly through the family. There is also a connection to the Allen family. As far as I know, the family was early New England, possibly settling in the colonies. Mass. and Vermont have been mentioned in family stories as earlier stopping points. Matthewson is supposed to be Scots, of the McCloud clan if my great uncle James Otis Matthewson's research was correct. Any information on connections either backwards or of siblings of Otis Wing Matthewson would be appreciated. Julie Rice

I'm seeking information of Church's of New Berlin. I'm especially interested in Lucinda Church (b. 1834), her sister Adelaide, or their parents. Lucinda married Smith Cook in 1852 and moved to Sherburne with her children after Smith perished in the Civil War. Information on where I can find birth records for New Berlin from the 1830's would be of particular interest.

Seeking information about Mary Elizabeth ELLIOTT: born August 25, 1843, died December 31, 1910 in Coventry, NY. Mary was married to Truman A. SOUTHWORTH, he born April 25, 1843, died January 5, 1911. He was the son of Truman SOUTHWORTH (born 1810, died APril 1, 1843) and Elizabeth Jane CONVERSE (daughter of Rufus Converse and Betsy Posthill, born December 5, 1810 died April 1, 1893) Truman A. had two siblings, John Tracy Southworth who is reportedly the former postmaster of Coventry (married Sarah Parker) and Lucy June Southworth who married Wallace W. Wood and had one child Frank Wood. Mary Elizabeth ELLIOTT had a brother who moved on to Manhattan, Kansas. I have a postcard dated 1905 from her brother with an Fifth Ave. Manhattan, Kansas return address on it. I am the great granddaughter of Mary Elizabeth and Truman Southworth, granddaughter of their son Raymond Elliott SOUTHWORTH who married Lena Belle RICHMOND (daughter of Orlin E. RICHMOND and Hattie A. BROCKETT) Lena died in 1966 and was a long time resident of Coventry, where she ran a farm with her second husband Bert STARK (who later married Myrtle Oralls). Lena had a sister Goldie and brother Ivan who never married. I am the daughter of Lena's son, Truman Richmond SOUTHWORTH Sr. (we now have a Truman Jr. and a Truman III.) I have much info on the CONVERSE family and the BROCKETT family to share if interested. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.

I recently found a book of old photos - some with dates on the back like 1888, 1891. They are in great condition. I do recognize one of my Grandfather Raymond Southworth and his wife Lena Belle Richmond Southworth - with two others, possibly her brother Ivan and sister Goldia (Golda, Goldie). The others I do not know. They were taken by such photographers as Tillotson of Greene, Hotchkiss of Norwich, Warner of Greene, & Graeff of Oxford. I also have an undated picture postcard of the Oxford Academy band - would love to share. Any suggestions who might be able to guide me to resolving the mystery people in these photos would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I am searching for the family of Charles Mat(t)hewson and Eliza Avaline Tobey or Torrey, By 1837 they are in Smyrna and my great-grandfather Otis Wing Mat(t)hewson is born. Other children are Ardelia, Romayne, Emory, Melville, Florette and Albert. Eliza Avaline is the daughter of Temperence Wing and John Pope Tobey (Torrey in other reconds). Her maternal grandparents are David Wing and Desire Vincent Wing. I can trace David Wing from Mass. to Cortlandville (Cortland?) NY where he dies in . I have Wings back to 1632 but am not certain of the Mat(t)hewson connection. There is a Charles Mathewson in Rhode Island old enough to be the father of my Charles and there are a number of Mathewsons that come into the region from Rhode Island. Somehow an "Aunt Julia" fits into all of this. She is not a sister of Otis Wing but may be a cousin, either a Mathewson, a Tobey (Torrey) or a Wing. Any leads would be welcomed. Julie Rice

I am looking for information on Thomas MOFFETT. He was born around 1829. There is a Thomas MOFFATT listed in the Afton, NY Business Directory of 1869-70. He was listed as a stone mason. There is also a W. MOFFATT listed there as a veterinary surgeon. I read in a query that there was a Thomas MOFFETT and a William MOFFIT listed in Afton Township census. They lived in the same household as each other along with a Jula DAVIS - age 6, Henry Moffett - age 81, and a Margaret - age 73. The Thomas MOFFETT that I am looking for showed up in the Scott Co.,TN 1880 Census. He was a stone mason. He is my g.g.grandfather and he had a brother named William. I can't seem to find any information on him prior to that. An old family tale is that they were accused of stealing horses and were on the run when they stopped in Scott Co., TN. I don't know the exact details or if it is even true. If anyone has any information on the MOFFATT/MOFFETT/MOFFITT's listed here please let me know if they remained in New York or any information that will determine if there is NO connection or maybe if there could be.
