BAKER
Dr. Myron Wing Baker, 83,of Jamestown died at 5:45 AM today (Nov. 26, 1982) in Jamestown General Hospital. Baker had been a chiropractor in this area for more than 62 years. An area resident most of his life, he was born Dec. 22, 1898 in Castile, NY, the son of Newton & Effie Town Baker. Baker had been awarded the 50-year Golden Award by the NY State Chiropractic Assoc. & in 1968 the Assoc. honored him as "Chiropractor of the Year." He also held a "Chiropractic Pioneer Award."
Surviving are his wife, Doris Mary Giddy Baker, whom he married Jan. 20, 1939 in Sugar Grove, PA; 2 daughters: Janette Lundren of Randolph & Joan C. Baker-Bush of El Cajon, CA; a son Calvert Wing Baker of Sinclairville; 4 grandchildren: Nathan Wing Bush of El Cajon, CA, Lew Lundgren of Randolph, Pat Swanson of Enterprise, AL & Sylvia Lawson of Sheffield, PA; 4 great-grandchildren & a sister, Arlene Peterson of Jamestown.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Langford Baker.

BALL
Harland G. Ball, 88
A life long area resident, he was born Sunday, Feb. 17, 1918, in the Town of Poland, the son of the late Clifford and Jessie WOLCOTT Ball. died at 11:42 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2006, in the WCA Hospital.
Harland was a 1935 graduate of Falconer High School, and along with his wife, Louise had operated Ball View Dairy Farm on the Levant-Gerry Rd. for many years, Surviving are his wife, Louise Larson Ball of 64 years, whom he married Dec. 24, 1941, in Jamestown, two sons: Ronny (Carol) Ball and Marshall (Jann) Ball, both of Falconer, a daughter Shirley (Vance) Lowe of Kennedy, seven grandchildren: four great-grandsons, two great-granddaughters, and two brothers: Myril Ball of Falconer, and Burnell Ball of Florida.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, David Ball in 1971.burial in Levant Cemetery
 
BIRD
Richard N. Bird, 74, of Route 394, died at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday (April 1, 2003) in Lutheran Social Services. A lifelong area resident, he was born Jan. 17, 1929, in Jamestown, the son of Floyd and Charlotte Hitchcock Bird Sr. He attended Falconer schools and served in the U S. Navy during World War II He is survived by his wife, Rosalind P. Short Bird, whom he married Dec. 28, 1948, in Kennedy; a son, Richard Bird Jr. of Falconer; two daughters: Sylvia Trainer of Falconer and Vicki Goon of Kennedy; four grandchildren: two sisters, Betty Feyler of Thomaston, Maine, and Joan Vaitones of Tenants Harbor, Maine. He was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd Bird Jr. in 1995.
Burial will be in Levant Cemetery
 
CHRISCADEN
Louella A. Chriscaden, 63, of the Lutheran Retirement home, died at 9:40 p.m. Monday (Jan. 20, 2003) in the facility.
An area resident most of her life, she was born Sept. 17, 1939, in Canisteo, the daughter of the late Francis and Bessie Hults Chriscaden.
She had been employed by the House of Petillo and the Resource Center. She was associated with the STEL Program and had resided in various group homes in the area through the Resource Center.
She is survived by a half-brother, Richard Hults Smith, of Avoca; and her care giver, Nancy J. Schuyler, of Frewsburg.
She was preceded in death by her mother, who died in 1993,Bessie Chriscaden 4 Mar 1921 Died: 17 Apr 1993

BROWN
P.J. clipping dated Oct. 26, 1949: Ernest E. Brown, 72, died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at his home, 842 Prendergast Avenue.
Surviving are his wife, mrs. Elizabeth Willett Brown; a son, Kenneth W. Brown, Buffalo, and a sister, Mrs. Clyde Stark, Town of Ellery.
He was born in the Town of Ellery Feb. 23, 1877, the son of Romantus and Emogene Cowden Brown. He had been employed by Mrs. Robert N. Marvin as coachman and custodian for more than 54 years.
Funeral services will be held from the Partridge Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Saturday. Interment will be in the Levant Cemetery.
 
BROWN WILLETT
Mrs. Elizabeth W. Brown, 91, of Terrace Place, Jamestown, died Thursday (Dec. 29, 1966) in WCA Hospital. She was the widow of Ernest Brown.
She was born in England, in 1874, the daughter of Edwin and Emma Taylor Willett.
Mrs. Brown is survived by a son, Kenneth W. Brown, Jamestown, four sisters, Mrs. Sarah Nickerson, Mrs. Anna Barker, Mrs. Susannah Hilliker, and Mrs. Hilda Sears , all of Falconer. Two sisters and four brothers preceded her in death.
 
CARLSON,
Helen M. SMITH Carlson, 84, of 1413 Route 394, died at 11:55 a.m. Friday (Nov. 7, 2003) In Heritage Green Health Care Center. She was the widow of Howard c. Carlson; whom she married April 21, 1946, in Elm Flats Methodist Church, and who died Dec. 2, 1994.
At the age of 16 she graduated from Mayville High School, class of 1934.
She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Daughters of the American Revolution and was involved in the 4-H Club in the Falconer area for several years. She is survived by two daughters: Dena Homme of Stockton and Sondra Cessna of Lakewood; and a son, Christon Carlson of Jamestown; six grandchildren: and one great-granddaughter.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers: Harley, Henry, Fay and George Smith.
Burial will be in Levant Cemetery

CHANDLER
Woodley Williamson Chandler was the son of Martin Chandler and his second wife, Nancy Drake, and was born near Petersburg, Amelia, Co., Virginia, February 14, 1800. He came to Jamestown in June, 1823. The first person he met was Elial T. Foote. Mr. Woodley W. Chandler then poorly clad, with a small bundle in his hand, made known his need of immediate employment. He got work and was from then known as a man of industrious, temperate, and moral habits.
In 1824 he married Phebe, the eldest daughter of Major Abram Winsor (a native of Rhode Island, who first came to Sinclairville, and later to Jamestown). Soon after his marriage, Mr. Chandler purchased of Mr. Foote all of the land on the north side of the outlet between the village lots and the Dexterville purchase, and south of the Dexterville and Jamestown Road. Including a large share of the hydraulic power at the Sash factory, and thus became the principal director of its improvement.
This led him and others to erect the carding and cloth dressing machinery there, and which ultimately became the property of Daniel Hazeltine, Esq. and laid the foundation of the present Woolen Factory, which has done so much to establish the reputation of our domestic woolen goods. He was the projector of most of the streets and village lot surveys in the east part of Jamestown. He was a patron and early trustee of the Jamestown Academy. The official duties of Supervisor, Justice of the Peace, Trustee and other offices he held were discharged with conscientious fedelity, and to the satisfaction of the people.
He removed to Levant in the Fall of 1838, where he had a farm. He was at least, one of the founders of the Levant Cemetery where his remains rest. He was also responsible for the building of the adjacent school house, long used as a church, as well as a school.
He died on April 2, 1854, a little more than 54 years of age. He had four sons and two daughters, one of which was adopted--she was Phoebe Blowers, daughter of John Blowers. Chautauqua Democrat also Jamestown Journal 4/23/1854
 
CLASSON
Dorothy J. Classon, 86, of 1301 Airport Freeway formerly of Ft. Myers, Fla., died Friday (December 3, 2004) in Harris HEB Methodist Hospital, Fort Worth, Texas.
She was born July 17, 1918, in Jamestown, the daughter of Hilton R. and Bertha Rich Jacobson.
She was a 1937 graduate of Falconer High School and 1941 graduate of Cornell She is survived by her husband, Fred D. Classon, whom she married June 11, 1941; a son, David Hilton Classon of Wells River, Vt; two daughters: Sherry Balletto of Santa Rose, Calif., and Bev Herring of Fort Worth, Texas; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Hilton R. Jacobson who died March 8, 2004.

CORTRIGHT
Ida Baird Cortright, 69, of 402 Lakeview Ave., died Wednesday (April 20, 2005) in her home. She was born March 14, 1936, in Detroit, the daughter of Gordan and Evelyn Hughs Baird.She was employed by Lou Kahn in Philadelphia as an architect, and helped build schools in India with the World Bank.
She enjoyed traveling, by the age 40, she spent half her life abroad. She was also an artist and completed two dozen works of art, many currently with art collectors.
She is survived by a son, John Cortright of Jamestown; two daughters: Mya di Moscato of Fredonia and Maggie di Moscato of Washington, D.C.; many stepchildren; three grandchildren: Madalena di Moscato and Brianna and Alexandra Cobb, all of Fredonia.

ECHARD
Danielle M. Echard, 6, of Gerry-Levant Road, died at 5:04 a.m. Tuesday (April 1, 2003). A lifelong area resident, she was born Dec. 12, 1996, in Jamestown, the daughter of Orville R. and Penny L. Weldy Echard III.
She was a kindergarten student at Paul B.D. Temple Elementary School, Kennedy, and was active in the State Lanes junior bowling league. She was attending Koinonia Christian Outreach in Russell. Besides her parents, she is survived by a brother, Joshua Seekings, at home; her maternal grandparents, Wesley and Marcia Brown of Falconer; her paternal grandparents, Orville and Natula Echard Jr. of Falconer, her maternal great grandparents, Phillip and Inez Allen of Niagara Falls; and her paternal great-grandparents, Orville Echard Sr. of Bridgeport, W. Va., and Mabel Kovar of Clarksburg, W. Va.
She died with her brother, William Seekings Jr., and sister, Janel Echard, and was preceded in death by her paternal great-grandparents, Loretta Echard and Tom Kovar; and maternal great-grandparents, Chrystal and Eva Brown.

Janel R. Echard, 4, of 3265 Gerry-Levant Road, died at 5:03 a.m. Tuesday (April 1, 2003).
A lifelong area resident, she was born July 13, 1998, in Jamestown, the daughter of Orville R. and Penny L. Weldy Echard III.

ENGSTROM HUBBARD
Phyllis M. Hubbard Engstrom, 94, formerly of Levant, the Methodist Gardens, Falconer, and the Frewsburg Rest Home, died at 5:25 a.m. Sunday, May 7, 2006, in the Heritage Green Health Care Center. She was the widow of Julius C. ‘‘Mike’’ Engstrom, whom she married Aug. 30, 1941, in Falconer, and who died Oct. 6, 1984.
A lifelong area resident, she was born Aug. 30, 1911, in Jamestown, the daughter of Victor John and Edith Baxter Hubbard. Surviving are two sons: John Engstrom of Collinsville, Va., and Dennis Engstrom of Penfield, N.Y., a daughter, Wendy Barr of Canandaigua, N.Y., six grandchildren: Jay Engstrom of Martinsville, Virginia, Brant Engstrom of Worcester, Mass., Kimberly Constantine of Fairport, N.Y., John Barr of Oradell, N.J., Matthew Engstrom of Rochester, Julia Engstrom, a student at SUNY at Albany, four great-grandchildren: Eric and Sydney Engstrom, both of Martinsville, Alexandra Constantine of Fairport, and Thomas Engstrom of Worcester, a sister-in-law, Alma Hubbard, and a nephew, William Hubbard both of Milwaukee, Wis. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, William V. ‘‘Bud’’ Hubbard, Jan. 31, 1995. Burial will be in the Levant Cemetery.

Ernest D. Frederes, 88, of R.D. 1 Waterman Hill Road, died at 2"05 p.m. Thursday (March 29, 1979) in WCA Hospital. He was born Feb. 28, 1891, in Otto, N.Y., son of Nicholas and Sophia Hansen Frederes. Surviving are four sons Ernest E. Frederes, Jamestown; Dean Frederes, Falconer; Roger Frederes, Merritt Island, Fla.; two daughters, Violet Wickstrom and Mary Beightol both of R.D. 1, Falconer; 20 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Linda Anderson Frederes, June 9, 1964, his second wife Jane Frederes, March 27, 1976; four brothers John, Nicholas, William, and Daniel Frederes and one sister Mary Albright.

 
FREDERES CARR
Grace E. Frederes, 91, of 3555 Harris Hill Road, Falconer, died at 8:50 a.m. Wednesday (April 6, 2005) in Heritage Village Health Care Center.
She was the wife of Ernest E. Frederes, whom she married Nov. 27, 1935, in Jamestown. A lifelong area resident, she was born Sept. 15, 1913, in Jamestown, the daughter of John L. and Esther Westerlund Carr. She attended both Jamestown and Frewsburg schools and Jamestown Business College. she is survived by a daughter, Grace Ann Frederes of Amsterdam, N.Y.; two sons: Gary and Nicholas Frederes, both of Falconer; a grandson, Thomas Frederes of Falconer; two brothers: Everett Carr of Ripley and Wallace Carr of Bemus Point; and a sister, Lorraine Luce of Falconer. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Allen, Mahlon and LeVern Carr; and a sister, Virginia VanWert. Burial will be in Levant Cemetery.
 
FREDERES
Mrs. Linda Frederes, 74, of R.D. 1, Falconer, Harris Hill Road, died at 3:15 a.m. today (June 9, 1964) at her home. She was the wife of Ernest D. Frederes Sr.
Mrs. Frederes was born Feb. 28, 1890, in the Town of Ellicott, the daughter of Nels and Florine Lindquist Anderson. She attended Levant Wesleyan Methodist Church and was a member of Ross Grange No. 305 of Falconer; the Levant Cemetery Society and Agnes Walker W.C.T.U. Besides her husband, she is survived by four sons, Ernest E. Frederes Jr., and Dean Frederes, Falconer; Philip Frederes, Jamestown; and Rober Frederes, Pompano Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Mrs. Elmer Wickstrom and Mrs. Vincent Beightol, both of Falconer; two brothers, J. Leland Anderson,

GIDDY
Reginald W. Giddy, 92, formerly of the Methodist Gardens, Falconer, died at 9 a.m. Friday (Oct. 17, 2003) An area resident most of his life, he was born Feb. 28, 1911, in Bideford, England, the son of John and Mary Short Giddy. He has served with the U.S. Army with Company E during the Depression and later worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps.Surviving are a son, Donald W. Giddy of Falconer; a daughter, Geraldine Wetzel of North Glenn, Colo.; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; a brother, Dr. Frederick Giddy of Falconer, and a sister, Doris Baker of Jamestown.
He was preceded in death by his wife. Eva Becker Giddy, whom he married Oct. 28, 1928, in Ellicottville, and who died Jan. 6, 1993; three brothers, Herbert, Frank and Horace Giddy; and a sister, Minnie Gray Soderberg. Burial in Levant Cemetery
 
GIDDY
Horace H. Giddy, 87, of 14 Kimball Ave., died at 9:03 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 10, 2001) in his home. He was born May 28, 1913, in Bideford, England, the son of John and Mary Short Giddy. He immigrated to Canada in 1925 and later to the United States, settling in the Falconer area. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He served with the Glider Artillery Division of the 101st Air Borne in England and the European Theatre. He was an honorary recipient of the Bronze Star for his participation in the Battle of the Bulge at Baston, the invasion of Normandy, the battles of Holland, Belgium and The Cross Roads. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie E. Cronin Giddy, whom he married Nov. 8, 1947, in Sagemore, Pa.; a son, Ronald H. Giddy of Falconer; two daughters: Rhonda K. Sonne of Bethany, N.Y., and Rayanne Hotchkiss of Falconer; nine grandchildren: three great-grandchildren; two brothers: Reginald and Dr. Frederick E. Giddy, both of Falconer; and a sister, Doris Baker of Jamestown. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Herbert Giddy who died in 1984 and Frank Giddy in 1970; and a sister, Minnie Gray Soderburg in 1959. Burial will be in Levant Cemetery
 
GIDDY
Donald W. Giddy, 75, of 218 E. Pearl St., died at 10:28 p.m. Monday (Oct. 24, 2005) in WCA Hospital.
A lifelong area resident, he was born April 2, 1930, in Jamestown, the son of Reginald and Eva Becker Giddy.
He was a 1949 graduate of Falconer High School and was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1954 in the Mediterranean aboard the USS Adirondack and USS Mt. Olympus. While serving in the Navy, he schooled in Philadelphia, and Norfolk, Va. He also received the National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Navy Occupation Medal. He is survived by his wife, Carol J. LeRoy Giddy, whom he married July 14, 1951, in First Baptist Church of Falconer; a son, Robert W. Giddy of Sellersville, Pa.; four daughters: Karen Pfeffer of Busti, Joy Wysard of Mountain Top, Pa., Becky Weber of Frewsburg, and Merry Tordoff of Bemus Point; 11 grandchildren: two step-granddaughters: Beth Kresge of Jamestown, and Amy Albright of Pittsburgh; a great-granddaughter; and a sister, Geraldine Wetsel of Denver.
He was preceded in death by a son, Richard Allen Giddy, who died in 1955.
 
HALLET
Lloyd F. Hallet, 82, formerly of 4426 North Ave., Cottage Park, Lakewood, died at 4:05a.m. Monday (June 26, 2000) in Heritage Park Health Care Center, Greenhurst.
An area resident for more than 60 years, he was born July 4, 1917, in Corry, the son of Fred C. and Rosie Warner Hallet Sr He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, Surviving are three daughters: Doloris Snyder of Allentown, Pa., Nancy J. Schuyler of Bemus Point and June E. Smith of Ashville: 10 grandchildren: seven step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Hannah Farley of Jamestown, Eva Sargent of Sinclairville and Dorothy Kranking of Bemus Point; four brothers: Irwin and Fred Hallet Jr., both of Sinclairville, Reuban Hallett of West Ellicott and Paul Hallett of Jamestown.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian I. Austin Hallett, whom he married April 30, 1936, and who
died May 26, 1985; a sister, Marjorie Hallett; and three brothers: Edward, David and Robert W. Hallett.
 
HARLE
Diana L. Harle, 53, of 11 East Falconer St., died at 11:05 a.m. Sunday, April 30, 2006, in her home.A lifelong area resident, she was born Aug. 12, 1952, in Jamestown, the daughter of Carl and Connie Hodge Spencer. She was a 1970 graduate of Falconer High School, and prior to her disability retirement in 1993, had been employed as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service in Jamestown. Surviving is a son Jason Harle, her mother, and best friend and companion, Dee Williams all of Falconer, a brother, Devin Spencer and his wife, Bonnie of Glens Falls, N.Y., four sisters: Debra Osborne and her husband, Robert of Niagara Falls, Darla Loucks and her husband, Don of Jamestown, Donna Spencer of Falconer, Deena Saullo and her husband, Jack of Busti, and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her father in 1975, her paternal grandparents, William and Eva Spencer, and her maternal grandparents, Linwood and Irene Hodge.
 
HILLIKER WILLETT
Susannah Willett Hilliker, 91, of R.D. 1 Willett Drive, died at 6:18 a.m. Thursday(July 24, 1975) in the Fenton Park Nursing Home in Jamestown. She was the wife of Perl Hilliker.
She was born in England July 10, 1884, the daughter of Edwin and Emma Taylor Willett. She was a 1908 graduate of the WCA School of Nursing and had worked as a registered nurse. She had formerly operated the Hilliker Barn Dance on the Levant Road. Following that she had been employed at the Wintergarden Theater, retiring in 1965. Mrs. Hilliker was a member of the Ross Grange in Falconer.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Rex Yaw of Randolph and Mrs. Mike Kotar of Falconer, four grandchildren, Mrs. Ronald Sikes of Kennedy, Mrs. Donald Morgan of Pomona, Calif., Donald Kotar of Casselburg, Fla., and John Kotar of Cassadaga, NY, five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Hilda Sears of Falconer and Mrs. Annie Barker of Jamestown.

HOFFGREN
Mrs. Catherine Pocock Hoffgren, 88, of the Lutheran Retirement Home, died at 5:07 p.m. Saturday(Nov. 12, 1966).
She was the widow of Fritz Hoffgren.
She was born in Meacham, England, July 9, 1878, the daughter of Solomon and Marian Stabuck Willett and came to the United States and Levant in 1895.
Surviving are a son, Charles A. Pocock , Houghton; one daughter, Mrs. Fred Warburton, Silver Springs. MD; a step daughter, Mrs. John B. Grant, McLean, VA, a brother, Walter Willett of Falconer, three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
 
JACOBSON
Dr. Hilton R. Jacobson, 81, of 824 Hunt Road, died at 6:12 p.m. Monday (March 8, 2004) in the Heritage Village Health Care Center.
He was born Aug. 2, 1922, in Jamestown, the son of Hilton R. and Bertha Rich Jacobson.
He was a 1939 graduate of Falconer High School, had attended Alfred University Extension, the University of Buffalo, and graduated from the University of Buffalo School of Medicine in 1945. He served his internship at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City. From 1946 to 1948, he served in the U.S. Army in the medical corp in Korea. He was a longtime member of the Levant Wesleyan Church, where he had served on the administrative board. He was a member of the Chautauqua County Medical Society, the Jamestown Medical Society, New York State Medical Society and the American Medical Society.He is survived by two sons: Donald R. Jacobson of Baldwinsville and Dr. Richard R. Jacobson of Glenmont; four grandchildren: Christopher R. and Nicholas P. Jacobson, both of Baldwinsville, and Christian M. and Devan P. Jacobson, both of Glenmont; and a sister, Dorothy Classon of Fort Myers, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ina M. Kilby Jacobson, whom he married Aug. 2, 1952, in Syracuse, and who died Sept. 2, 2000.
 
LUCE
Warren I. Luce, 58, of The Resource Center ICF, 862 Foote Ave., formerly of Falconer, died at 7:55 p.m. Wednesday (April 13, 2005) in the WCA Hospital.
A lifelong area resident, he was born May 2, 1946, in Jamestown, the son of Lorraine Carr Luce and the late Ivan R. Luce.Besides his mother of Falconer, he is survived by a sister, Linda McElderry of Tremont, Ill.

McEWEN
Mrs. Ina M. McEwen, 84, of the Heritage Village Health center, Gerry. formerly of 369 E. Fairmont Ave., Lakewood, died at 12:10 p.m. Monday (Sept 6 1976) at the Health Center. She was the widow of Arthur C. McEwen, who died in 1956.
A Buffalo resident for 45 years, Mrs McEwen was born in Poland Center, Aug 29, 1892, a daughter of Austin James and Viola Harrington Stafford. Surviving is a nephew, Burton J. Stafford of Fredonia. Mrs. Sarah Nickerson, 100 years of age, of 17 E. Mosher St., Falconer, died at 2:45 a.m. today(Nov. 29, 1971)at Jamestown General Hospital. SHe was the widow of Ervin Nickerson. Mrs Nickerson was born in England, Aug. 6, 1871, the daughter of Edwin and Emma Taylor Willett. Evelyn Norberg, 83, of 1805 E. Main St., died at 11:45 p.m. Friday (March 12, 2004) in WCA Hospital.
She was the widow of Torsten D. Norberg, whom she married Sept. 2, 1939 in St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Jamestown, and who died Nov. 2, 1996.
A lifelong area resident, she was born Nov. 22, 1920, in Jamestown, the daughter of Howard and Flora Proudman Stimson. Surviving are a son, Preston Norberg of Frewsburg; two daughters: Cynthia Hotchkiss of Jamestown and Patricia Davidson of Waldorf, Md.; and seven grandchildren: Michael Norberg of Manassas, Va., Julie Troutner of Sinclairville, Kathleen Sherman of Jamestown, Susanne Stone of Bemus Point, Bradley Davidson of Fairfax, Va., Gregory and Scott Davidson of Waldorf.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Ada Stimson and Kathleen Gaeta; and two brothers: Wilfred "Steve" and Gerald Stimson.Burial will be in Levant Cemetery

Grace Reedy, 96, of the Laurelbrook Landing Nursing Home, formerly of Liberty Towers, Clarion, Pa., died Wednesday (Jan. 19, 2004) in the Laurelbrook Landing Nursing Home.
She was born Oct. 11, 1907, in Clarendon, Pa., the daughter of William and Harriet Songer.
She was a 1925 graduate of Sigel High School and was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion.
Surviving are a son, Ronald Zanelli of Appleton, Wis., two daughters: Sara Jean Aldrich of Cherry Creek and Patricia Fegley of Frewsburg; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Alford Zanelli, in 1936; her second husband, Sharon E. Reedy, in 1987; nine brothers; and one sister. Burial will be in Levant Cemetery

William L. Seekings Jr., 11, of 3265 Gerry-Levant Road, died at 5:03 a.m. Tuesday (April 1, 2003).
A lifelong area resident, he was born April 10, 1991, in Jamestown, the son of William L. Seekings Sr. and Penny L. Weldy.
He was a sixth-grade student at Falconer Middle School, where he was an honor student, participated in Quiz Bowl and was a member of the Falconer Junior High Band. He was a member of the junior bowling league at State Lanes in Falconer and played in the Falconer Little League baseball program.
He enjoyed archery and reading, and was an avid chess player.
Besides his parents, he is survived by a brother, Joshua Seekings, at home; his stepfather, Orville Echard; his maternal grandparents, Wesley and Marcia Brown of Falconer; his paternal grandparents, Sherry Sargent of Georgia and David Seekings of Indiana, his maternal great-grandparents, Phillip and Inez Allen of Niagara Falls; his paternal step grandparents, Orville and Natula Echard Jr. of Falconer; and his paternal step great -grandparents, Orville Echard Sr. of Bridgeport, W. Va., and Mabel Kovar of Clarksburg, W. Va.
He died with his two sisters, Danielle and Janel Echard, and was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents, Chrystal and Eva Brown; his paternal stepgreat-grandparents, Loretta Echard and Tom Kovar; and paternal great-grandmother, Lucretia Sargent. Burial will be in Levant Cemetery.

H. “Steve” Stimson, whom she married July 19, 1938, and who died Dec. 19, 1977. A
lifelong area resident, she was born May 13, 1918, in the Town of Ellery, the daughter of

Frederick G. ''Ted'' Swanson, 89, formerly of 2901 Stone Road, Falconer, died at 1 p.m. Friday (Jan. 28, 2005) in the Heritage Green Health Care Center.
A lifelong area resident, he was born April 8, 1915, in Scandia, Pa. the son of John and Jennie Spetz Swanson.
He attended schools in Scandia, and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945 in the European Theatre. In earlier years, he had been employed by Hope's Windows. In later years, he was self-employed in the excavating business.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by six sisters: Mamie and Jewel Swanson, Arlene Hamm, Beatrice Beebe, Janette Smith and Myrtle Hoover; and four brothers: Luther, Burton Ralph and Darwin Swanson.

Dennis C. Wickstrom, 62, of 3628 Wilson Hollow Road, died at 9:20 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 19, 2003) in WCA Hospital.
A lifelong area resident, he was born Oct. 3, 1940, in Jamestown, the son of the late Elmer and Violet Frederes Wickstrom.
He was a 1959 graduate of Falconer High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War in Thailand. He had been employed by Carborundum for 36 years, retiring in 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Kent Wickstrom, whom he married Nov. 27, 1965, in Levant Wesleyan Church; two sons: Kevin Wickstrom, a National Guard member stationed in Chambersburg, Pa., and Karl Wickstrom of Louisville, Ky.; a daughter, Wendy Delvalle of Jamestown; two grandchildren: Amanda Wickstrom of Falconer and Cameron Delvalle of Jamestown; and a sister, Elaine Winton of Sinclairville.

Edwin Willett died at his home in Levant, Sunday morning, aged 88 years. He was born in England in September of 1840, and came to the United States in 1888. Besides his wife, Mrs. Emma Willett, he is survived by a brother, Joseph WIllett and a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Bilks, both of England, six daughters, Mrs. Sarah Nickerson of Kennedy, Mrs Elizabeth Brown of Jamestown, Mrs. Alice Brady of Ensley, Ala., Mrs. Anna Barker of Bemus Point, Mrs. Susie Hilliker and Mrs. Hilda Sears of Falconer, and four sons, Solomon Willett, Edwin Willett, William Willett, and John Willett, all of Falconer.

Funeral services for Edwin Willett were held at his home in Levant, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Edward Elliott of the Levant Weslayan Church officiated. The bearers were Solomon, Charles and Walter Willett, William, Raymond and Clarence Mee. Interment was in the Levant Cemetery.

Charles E. Willett, 75, of the Hartson Road, Falconer, died at his home Monday(3/20/1950).
A native of Lancastershire, England, Mr. Willett came to Falconer about 15 years ago.
A farmer and former rural mail carrier for the Falconer Post Office, Mr. Willett retired in November of 1939. He was a member of the Ross Grange of Falconer.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Bessie E. Mrs. Willett was born in England, in 1848 and came to this country 45 years ago having since resided in this vicinity. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of England and the Levant Cemetery Society. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the home in Levant. Burial will be in the Levant Cemetery. John Willett, 76, of R.D. #1, Falconer, was found dead by friends early Saturday evening (March 31,1962)in his home. Coroner Fred Hitchcock said Mr. Willett died early Saturday morning of natural causes.
A native of England, Mr. Willett was born Jan. 11, 1886, and had lived in the Levant area most of his life. His parents were Edwin and Emma TAYLOR Willett.
Surviving are a brother, William of Falconer; six sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Brown, Jamestown, Mrs. Alice Brady, Montgomery, Ala., Mrs. Sarah Nickerson, Mrs. Annie Barker, Mrs. Sue Hilliker and Mrs. Hilda Sears, all of Falconer.
Burial will be in Levant Cemetery

P.J. June 22, 1950: Funeral services for Mrs. Carrie Neate Willett, 59, the only woman ever to serve on the Chautauqua County Board of Supervisors, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday from St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Rev. Dr. Lewis Ward, rector, will officiate. Burial will be in the family plot in the Levant Cemetery
Mrs. Willett died at 3:15 a.m. Sunday in WCA Hospital, less than four hours after she suffered a cerebral hemorrhage at her home on the Levant-Gerry Road.
She had been reading and was about to retire for the evening when she collapsed at the foot of the stairs. A spokesman said Mrs. Willett felt the attack, and called to her husband, Solomon Willett, who had preceded her to the second floor. He summoned the family physician. Mrs. Willett has been home but a week, having been a patient at the WCA Hospital. Mrs. Willett was born Oct. 4, 1890, on the farm where she resided. It was established by her grandfather, the late Reuben Neate.
She was the daughter of Menzo W. and Blanche W. Ames Neate. Her father, a county supervisor for a number of years, died Dec. 31, 1941, and her mother, Jan. 16, 1921.
When Mrs. Willett graduated from Falconer High School in 1909, she and Mrs. Hazel Cleland Johnson, were the only two members of the class.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Willett is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Sarah N. Halladay, and Mrs. Lucy Johnson, both of Jamestown and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Col. Nathan M. Neate, a World War I and II veteran and Reuben Neate preceded her in death.
Mrs. Willett was married Sept. 1, 1937. Dr. Ward officiated.

Solomon Willett, 75 of R. D. 1, Falconer, died at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday(July 26, 1955) at WCA Hospital, after a long illness. He was born July 10, 1880, in England the son of Edwin and Emma Willett, and came to the United States at the age of 10. He was a retired farmer.
Mr. Willett married Carrie Neate on Sept 1, 1937. She died June 10, 1950.
Survivors include six sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Brown, Jamestown, Mrs. Sarah Nickerson, Mrs. Annie Barker , Mrs. Sue Hilliker, and Mrs. Alice Brady of Montgomery, Ala.; two brothers, Jack(John) and William Willett of Falconer.

Solomon Willett, 72, of Sprague Hill, near Falconer, died at the WCA Hospital at 11:47 a. m. Friday (September 28, 1945). He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rose P. Willett; three daughters. Mrs. Grace Harding and Mrs. May Harding of Falconer, and Mrs. Lillian Harding of Phoenix, Ariz., two brothers, Charles and Walter Willett of Falconer, three sistes, Mrs. Catherine Pocock of Falconer, Mrs. Agnes Price and Mrs. Maggie Colver in England; 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Coming to this country 56 years ago, he had made his home in the vicinity ever since. Interment will be in the Levant Cemetery.

Walter W. Willett, 83, of R. D. 1 Falconer, died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 15, 1968) at WCA Hospital. He was born in Meacham, England , Nov. 30, 1884, the son of Solomon and Marian Stabuck Willett. Mr. Willett was a retired employee of Jamestown Malleable Iron Corp.
His wife Mrs. Lois Wood Willett died in 1955.
Surviving are two sons, Leslie Willett of Falconer and Arthur WIllett of Gerry; three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Burial will be in Levant Cemetery.
