BECK 
PJ: 4/22/2002: Dewittville: Francis A. Beck, 18, of Centralia-Hartfield Road, died
Friday, April 19, 2001, in Kansas City, Mo., after an automobile accident.
He was born Oct. 19, 1983, in Jamestown, the son of Paul J. and Bonnie Bierman Beck.
He was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy in Armada, Mich., where he was valedictorian of his class, and was preparing to enter the Catholic Seminary. He attended Our Lady of the Rosary in Buffalo. He enjoyed singing and had sung in the church choir, where he sang the Gregorian Chant, the ancient chant of the Catholic Church.
Besides his parents of Dewittville, he is survived by 10 sisters: Lorene Hoitink of Mayville, Sister Jean Dominque (Regina) of Post Falls, Idaho, Larisa Beck of Arcadia, Calif., Sister Marie Germaine (Mary) of St. Mary’s, Kan., Sister Marie Theophane (Janet) of Brussels, Belgium, Bernice Beck of Browerville, Minn., Rachel and Gemma Beck, both of Newton Falls, Ohio, and Greta and Theresa Beck, both of Dewittville; six brothers: Paul Beck of Lawrenceville, N.Y., the Rev. Gerard Beck of Kansas City, Mo., Vincent Beck of Wales, Mich., Adam Beck of Newton Falls, and Marcel and Jerome Beck, both of Dewittville; and his maternal grandmother, Lois Boush of Williamsport, Pa. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Harold Bierman; and his paternal grandparents. Lawrence and Bernice Beck.
Burial will be in the Centralia Union Cemetery.

BREVOORT
PJ: Oct., 1981: Stockton: Earl C. Brevoort, 103, of Stockton-Centralia Road, died Saturday morning (Oct. 17, 1981) in his home.
He was born Oct. 16, 1878 in the town of Stockton, the son of Frank and Ida Howard Brevoort.
A retired farmer, he was the fourth generation of his family to live in Stockton. Brevoort was a member of Centralia United Methodist Church for 82 years, and was a member of Centralia Grange No. 612 for more than 70 years. He was an active member of Centralia Senior Citizens, and a member of Winter Guest Club of Avon Park, Fla.
Surviving are two daughters: Rachael Weaver of Fowler, Ohio and Celia Imm of Centralia; a son, Howard E. Brevoort of Jamestown; 17 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth M. Brevoort, who died Dec. 15, 1963; two sons: Maurice Brevoort and Richard Brevoort, and a sister Lena Barnes.

BREVOORT PANGBORN
PJ: Dec. 1963: Centralia: Mrs. Ruth M. Brevoort, 64, of the Centralia-Stockton Road, died Sunday morning (Dec. 15, 1963) at her home.
She was born May 13,1879, in Frewsburg, the daughter of Frank and Selinda Walrod Pangborn. She had been a member of Centralia Methodist Church for 64 years.
She was married to Earl C. Brevoort, Nov. 15, 1899.
Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons, Maurice J. Brevoort, Huntsville, Ala., Howard E. Brevoort, Falconer and Richard H. Brevoort, Sinclairville; two daughters, Mrs. Celia Imm, Sinclairville, and Mrs. Rachel Baker, Fowler, Ohio; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren.

CARLSON NILES RIZZUTO
DEWITTVILLE - Marjorie E. Niles Carlson, 74, of Centralia-Hartfield Road, Dewittville, died Friday (Nov. 14, 2003) at home.
She was born Jan. 13, 1929, in Jamestown, the daughter of Leon and Marie Cross Niles.
She was a 1946 graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School and a life-long resident of Chautauqua County. She is survived by three sons: Dr. Paul Carlson of Dunkirk, and Peter and Mark Carlson, both of Gerry; a daughter, Ann Marie Clutter of Camden, S.C.; two step-sons, Robert and Fred Rizzuto II, both of Jamestown; a step-daughter, Sue Peterson of Bainbridge; 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a twin brother, Kenneth Niles of Mayville; and a sister, Beatrice Lee of Brocton.
Besides her parents and her first husband, she was preceded in death by her second husband, Fred Rizzutto, whom she married April 21, 1989, and who died Jan. 14, 1999; and a sister, Laura Arloine Russell Hodges
Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Centralia

COAN McKOON
PJ: Mar. 1980: Mrs. Maude L. Coan, 69, of 14 W. Seventh St., was pronounced dead on arrival at WCA Hospital of Friday (Feb. 29, 1980) after being stricken earlier at her home. She was born in Towerville on March 14, 1910, the daughter of the late Marion and Lillian Coan McKoon. Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Kenneth S. Coan; two daughters, Mrs. Patricia A. Bennett of Jefferson, Ohio, and Mrs. Nancy L. Lee of Jamestown; three sons, Gene L. Coan of Jamestown, Harold L. Coan of Columbus, Pa., and James R. Coan of Ashville; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Myrtle Ort of Frewsburg. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marian Halter and four brothers, Walter, Merle, Harold and Oakley McKoon.
Burial will be in the Centralia Cemetery. Ellery Scrapbook E, pg 60.

FENNER GILMORE
PJ: Sept. 1, 1956: Centralia: Mrs. Elizabeth Gilmore Fenner,
82, Northville, Mich., former resident of Centralia, died Friday afternoon.
She was born in Georgetown, Wis., on Dec. 23, 1873. Her husband, Charles J. Fenner, a former principal of Celoron and Cherry Creek High Schools, preceded her in death Oct. 31, 1955. She was graduated from Plativille, Wis., Normal School and taught school for many years at Cheektowaga, Celoron and Cherry Creek Surviving are a brother, Harry Gilmore, Garden City, Mich.; a niece, Mrs. Mary E. Smith, Garden City; a nephew, Harry Gilmore, Ann Arbor, Mich.

HAMMOND
PJ: 9/3/2001: Ellery Center: Robert F. Hammond, 71, died Friday (Aug. 31, 2001) in Westfield Memorial Hospital, Westfield. He was born Oct. 29, 1930, in Randolph, the son of Ruth Kilmer Hammond and the late Forest Hammond. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1950 to 1977 and served active duty in Greenland .Besides his mother of Dewittville, he is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sharon Soule Hammond, whom he married Jan. 18, 1958; a son, Kelly Hammond of Ellery Center; a daughter, Doreen Hammond of Ellery Center; three grandchildren: Erik, Toby and Andriel Hammond, all of Ellery Center; and two sisters: Della "June" Zimmer of Dewittville and Donna Allen of Waterford, Ohio.
Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Centralia

LaVOICE DEAKIN
PJ: 12/15/1998: Dunkirk: Florence I. LaVoice, 89, of the Chautauqua County Home, died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, in the facility. She was born Nov. 26, 1909, in the town of Ellery, a daughter of John and Bessie Anderson Deakin.
She had been a resident of the Fredonia area for 14 years and was formerly of Brocton. She was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion John W. Dill Post 434 Brocton. She had attended the Brocton Free Methodist Church. Surviving are a son, Steven LaVoice of Fredonia: three grandchildrren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Alfred Deakin of Westfield; and a sister, Margaret Ross of Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred LaVoice whom she married in 1930 and who died in 1986; three sons: Charles, Robert and Albert LaVoice; two brothers: Harold Deakin and Delay Deakin; four sisters: Marjorie Hamilton, Mary Deakin, Grace Doersel and Sarah Bookhagen.
Burial will be in Centralia Cemetery, Stockton.

LaVOICE
PJ 11/6/1986 Alfred C. La Voice. Residence W. Main Road, Fredonia. Born. April 11, 1901 in Ellery Center. Died Nov. 6, 1986 at his home. Age 85. Buried in Centralia Cemetery. Son of Stephen and Myrtle Hoffman LaVoice. He had been a resident of Fredonia area most of his life. A retired employee of Kling Furniture Company of Mayville. A veteran of World War I, serving overseas. Was a member for more than 60 years of the Brocton American Legion John W. Dill Post 434. He was past commander and past chaplain. He was a member and past commander of the Chautauqua County American Legion. He was former assessor for the town of Portland. He had a brother, Milton La Voice. Preceded in death by a great granddaughter Jessica La Voice.

LUND
Dewittville: Emel C. Lund, 63, of R. D. 1, Ellery Center-Centralia Rd., died early Sunday (June 17, 1973) at his home. Mr. Lund was born Sept. 20, 1909, in the Town of Ellery, the son of Emel and Iva M. Tabor Lund.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. William Bentley, Niobe, Mrs. John Brown, Bemus Point, Mrs. Michael Palmieri, Jamestown, Mrs. Jacob Little, Greensburg, Pa., and Mrs. Richard Edwards, Jamestown; four sons, Donald Kilbury, Pigeon Forge, T. Sgt. Richard Lund, Las Vegas, Nev., Emel M. E. Lund, Ashville, and William Lund, Dewittville; 28 grandchildren; two brothers, Albert Lund, Maple Springs, and Theodore Lund, Dewittville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite Lown Lund, in January, 1972; and two brothers, William Lund in 1928 and Ralph Lund in 1971.

LUND TABER
Dewittville: Mrs. Iva Taber Lund, 85, of the Ellery Center-Centralia Road, died Thursday (Oct. 8, 1964).
Mrs. Lund was born Oct. 29, 1878 in Jamestown, the daughter of Edward J. and Mary Haines Taber. She formerly attended the Centralia Methodist Church and was a 50-year member of Centralia Grange.
Surviving are four sons, Ralph Lund, Elyria, Ohio, Emel Lund, Albert Lund and Theodore Lund, all of Dewittville; 15 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emel Lund in 1941, and one son, William Lund in 1923.

LUND
PJ: 9/28/1998 - Theodore James Lund, 96, of Lutheran Social Services, formerly of Ellery Center, died Saturday Sept. 26, 1998 in the facility.
He was born March 10, 1902, in Ellery Center, a son of Emel and Iva Taber Lund.
A lifelong Chautauqua County resident, he was employed as a farm hand for various farmers throughout Chautauqua County. He was also employed in the late 50s by Midway Park as a maintenance man. He was a member of the Ellery Center Baptist Church and rang the church bell for services for more than 25 years. Sitting in front of his home, he enjoyed observing people.
Surviving are eight nieces and nephews, including John and Dianne Brown of Ellery Center, with whom he made his home.
He was preceded in death by four brothers: William, Ralph, Emel and Albert Lund.

NILES
PJ: Aug., 1986: Leon L. Niles, 83, of R. D. 5, Jamestown, formerly of R. D. 1, Dewittville, died at 6:48 a.m. Friday (Aug. 29, 1986) in WCA Hospital.
A Centralia resident for 80 years, he was born Sept. 15, 1902, in Ellery Township, a son of Marion and Emma Niles. Surviving are three daughters: Arloine Russell, with whom he resided, Marjorie Carlson of Dewittville, and Beatrice Lee of Brocton; a son, Kenneth Niles of Mayville; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Marie CROSS, who died april 11, 1986; three brothers: Eugene, Leslie, and Glenn Niles; and a half-sister, Arloine Niles.





PETERSON

Mrs. Carrie "Myrtle" Peterson, 64, wife of Ernest M. Peterson, Dewittville, R. F. D. No. 1, died Wednesday following a long illness. She is survived by her husband, Ernest M. Peterson, Dewittville; two daughters, Mrs. George Wing, Mayville, and Mrs. Herbert Howard, Forestville; one brother, Bert Preston, Dewittville, one sister, Mrs. Maude Walker, Bemus Point, six grandchildren and one niece. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Blood & Larson Funeral Home, Fredonia. Rev. W. Harold Sloan will officiate. Interment will be in Centralia Cemetery.


PUTNAM
.PJ. Jan. 25, 1937: A broken neck, sustained in a fall Friday in front of the Masonic Temple, East Third Street, caused the death of Fay W. Putnam of Centralia, Justice of the Peace of the town of Stockton and prominent Centralia Grange member, yesterday morning at 3:22 o'clock at Jamestown General Hospital, aged nearly 69 years.
According to the attending physician, Mr. Putnam is believed to have suffered a slight stroke just before he fell. The injury paralyzed the body muscles below the neck, but Mr. Putnam was conscious until the time of his death.
Surviving is his wife, Mrs. Belle Putnam; a daughter, Mrs. John I. Clement of Fredonia, and two grandsons, John Putnam Clement and Rodman DeGlain Clement, both of Fredonia. Mr. Putnam was born Feb. 17, 1868 on the Putnam homestead, where he had resided nearly all his life, the son of Deloss and Annette Scofield Putnam.
Additional notes: Mr. Fay Putnam is buried in the Centralia Cemetery. He married March 4, 1891 Belle Hotchkiss. Their daughter Annette Putnam married John I. Clement. Annette died Mar. 7, 1978.

SMITH VANDEWARK
Mrs. Helen Mary Vandewark Smith of Centralia, wife of Ernest Smith, died Saturday afternoon [ September 13, 1930 ] at the W.C.A. Hospital, aged 27 years. Beside her husband the deceased is survived by three children. Allen, Kathleen and Esther Smith; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Vandewark; and a brother, Raymond Vandewark, all of Centralia; a sister, Mrs. Gift Smith of Ellery and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E.S. Vandewark of this city. The funeral will be held from the home of her parents at Centralia, tomorrow (Tuesday) at 2 P.M. Burial will be in Centralia Cemetery.”

TABER
James Edward Taber of Centralia died this morning [Nov. 5, 1928 ] at 12:20 o’clock at the home of his grandson, Gerald Sherman, near Dewittville, aged 82 years, 4 months and 23 days. He is also survived by three daughters, Mrs. Lynn Vanderwark, and Mrs. Emil (spelled also Emel ] Lund of Centralia; and Mrs. Merritt Sherman of Jamestown; two brothers, Joseph Taber of Millbrook, N.Y., and Byron Taber of Poughkeepsie; two sisters, Mrs. Kate Shero of Millbrook, N.Y. and Mrs. Carrie Thomas of Katona, N.Y.; also nine grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. interment will be at Centralia

Funeral of J.E. Taber
The funeral of James E. Taber was held Wednesday afternoon from the home of his grandson, Gerald Sherman, near Dewittville. Rev. J. C. Hankinson of Sinclairville conducted the services at the home. Masonic services were conducted at the grave by J. H. Cummings.
The bearers were Howard Roberts, Marshall Hale, Ernest Olson, Ray Putnam, Fred Harper and Herbert Smith. Present from away were Mrs. Blair Link, Buffalo; Mr. and Mrs. Byron Taber and Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Taber of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The interment was in the Centralia cemetery.

CENTRALIA, Nov. 9 – The funeral of James E. Taber who died on November 5 was held from the home of his grandson, Gerald Sherman on Wednesday afternoon, burial in Union cemetery at Centralia. Mr. Taber was born at Poughkeepsie on June 11, 1846 and had lived in the vicinity of Centralia for about sixty years, he married Mary Haynes on June 14, 1871, her death occurring four years ago, his wedding suit was preserved and he wore it to his last resting place. Three daughters survive, Mrs. Anna Sherman of Jamestown; Mrs. Clara VanDewark and Mrs. Iva Lund of Centralia. Rev. J.C. Hankinson of Sinclairville officiated and Sylvan lodge, F. & A.M. of Sinclairville conducted the burial service at the grave.Among those present from away were a brother, Byron Taber and Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Taber of Millbrook, N.Y. ; Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Thorpe of Findley Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Seeley of South Ripley; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Thorpe and daughter of South Dayton; Mr. and Mrs. E. S. VanDewark, Mrs. Clyde Spur and daughter, Margaret, Mrs. Mary Risley, Harold Camp, Mary Griffith and Mrs. James Connor of Jamestown.

VANDEWARK
Lynn Albert VanDewark, 72, died at his home near Centralia early today [ Thursday, Feb 17, 1949 ]. He is survived by his wife, Clara; a son, Raymond, at home; a daughter, Mrs. Gift Smith, Sherman; a sister, Mrs. Mabel Holley, Jamestown, a brother, Ross Vanderwarker, Jamestown, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday from the residence near Centralia. Rev. Russell I. Hinderer, pastor of the Church of God, Jamestown, will officiate. Interment will be in Centralia Cemetery.*

*VANDEWARK—Funeral services for Lynn A. Vandawark were held from the home near Centralia Saturday afternoon. Rev. Russell I. Hinderer, pastor of the Church of God, Jamestown, officiated.

The bearers were Gene Tilyou, Merrill (sic) [Merrills] Smith, Allen E. Smith, Donald Smith, Mr. Larson and Gene Turpin.
Friends and relatives were present from Buffalo, Jamestown, Ellery, Sherman, Bemus Point, Stockton, South Stockton, Sinclairville, Dewittville, Falconer and Hartfield.

WEATHERBY
PJ: Dec., 1961: Centralia: Frank W. Weatherby, 67, a retired dairy farmer, died Saturday afternoon (Dec. 2, 1961) in the Chestnut Hill Hospital, Philadelphia, Pa.
Mr. Weatherby operated a farm at Centralia for 45 years prior to moving to Philadelphia six months ago to make his home with a daughter, Mrs. Edmund Zitzer.
He was born April 12, 1894, in Ross Mills. Mr. Weatherby was a member of the Centralia Methodist Church and the Grange.
In addition to his daughter he is survived by a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Vivian Weatherby, Silver Springs, Md.; two sisters, Mrs. Worthy Gilbert, Kennedy and Mrs. Charles Parker, Fredonia; and four grandchildren. His wife, Nellie James Weatherby died June 29, 1957 and his son, Edwin J. Weatherby, Nov. 5, 1956. Burial will be in Centralia Cemetery

ZIMMER HAMMOND CARPENTER
Della M. Zimmer, 70, of Bayview Road, Dewittville, died Friday (March 14, 2003) in Heritage Green Health Care Center, Ellery.
She was born Jun 11, 1932, in Randolph, the daughter of Ruth Kilmer Hammond of Heritage Green and the late Forest Hammond. Besides her mother, she is survived by her husband of 34 years, Donald D. Zimmer, whom she married Nov. 3, 1968 in Erie; four daughters: Peggy L. Priest of Stockton, Penny M. Till of Jacksonville, N.C., Suzette Smith of Sinclairville and Aimee E. Bajdo of Dewittville; three sons: Robert Carpenter of Westfield, Paul Zimmer of Eudora, Kan., and Mark Zimmer of Tennessee; 20 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Donna Allen of Waterford, Ohio.

Besides her father, who died March 22, 1995, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert F. Hammond on Aug. 31, 2001.
