The oldest tombstone there was of my 5 great grandmother, Desire Bly
and
while it was in very good condition in 1968 it's now gone. It
was
located only 10 or so feet up from the road a few feet from the left
edge of the cemetry boundary and to the left of Theron Bly's marker
which still stands. The cemetery is on the land purchased
by Asa Bly
in 1808 from the Holland Land Company according to Liber 2, pg. 107
of
Chautauqua County Deeds. Asa went back to Otsego County after
his
wife's death and died there in 1822.
Mrs. Desire consort of Asa Bly, died Feb. 24 1820 ae 53
The virtuous
mother's highest praise . . . Does not consist of length of days .
. .
For when her mortal forms at rest . . . Her children rise and call
her
blest. [This was Desire Smith, daughter of Dr. Gaius Smith of
Edmeston,
Otsego, NY]

According to
the Fredonia Censor obituary he died 9 Sep 1885. Possibly he

actually buried there, since the obelisk was probably placed when his
first wife died in 1850, and there was no indication of his second
wife's burial there.]

Unfortunately, in 1968 my enthusiasm exceeded my knowledge and I only
copied the Bly markers. I remember the Lovejoy markers, however
and
have evidence from the Bly surname file at the Fenton History Center
