Pershing County Nevada Cemeteries - Seven Troughs Cemetery

Seven Troughs Cemetery
Pershing County, Nevada

The following information was contributed by Fred Kemmerle [[email protected]] for posting on this website.

The mining town of Seven Troughs is about 25 miles northwest of Lovelock. Seven Troughs is accessible from Lovelock by driving west on Lone Mountain Road about 3 miles, turning right, and passing the Lone Mountain Cemetery. The pavement ends about a mile or two after passing the cemetery. Thereafter, it's about a 20 mile drive on gravel road to Seven Troughs. Before entering Seven Troughs Canyon, this little cemetery will be visable on the right side of the road. There are no signs or grave markers in this cemetery and it is easy to miss it. The coordinates are Lat: 4027'44"N, Lon: 11846'09"W.

Seven Troughs was a booming mining town in the early part of the twentieth century. Today, there is no commercial mining in Seven Troughs. Some of the old buildings are still standing. There are probably less than a dozen people who still live here, and probably only during the summer months.

There are only eight graves in the cemetery, all those buried here died 18 Jul 1912. A flash flood came through the canyon that day, killing eight people and destroying most of the town and the nearby mining camp of Mazuma.

The cemetery is abandoned and in fair condition considering it was used only once in 1912. There are no markers, only piles of rocks over the grave sites. There are some rusted pieces of metal sticking out of the ground.

Mr. Kemmerle visited this cemetery in 1990. The information about who is buried here comes from a book, "Nevada Towns and Tales, Vol I - North", 1981, Nevada Publications, Las Vegas, NV.
