LOST

Since beginning the mapping and photographing of cemeteries for this web site, some SSGS members have found (or have been told about) over 30 burial sites in Lunenburg County which are not listed in the SSGS Cemetery Inscription volumes. These 'new' sites have well over 200 of your ancestors interred. Some of the 'new' sites are marked with tombstones like the one below but most are unmarked mounds. Some are terribly overgrown, hidden in woods, cemented over, paved over, built over or cultivated over. An inventory of "lost" graves, cemeteries and burial grounds is being compiled to complement the volumes. Almost 300 burial sites in the county are now known and are being documented with names as much as possible.

Can you help? Do you know of, or have you heard of...?

1. Old burial sites, marked or unmarked?
2. Locations of single graves that are unmarked?
3. In your local cemetery, are there unmarked graves and you know who is buried there?
4. Locations of old churches and meeting houses?
6. Locations of deconsecrated places of worship?
