            [St Mary's Anglican was a missionary post before 1817 and had no regular rector.  In the early period, before 1790 when St Mary's was built, the area was served by St John's Anglican, Cornwallis. After 1790 it was served by Wilmot Trinity Anglican.  However all the events probably actually occured at St Mary's and the minister travelled rather than the people.  Edwin Gilpin became rector of St Mary's in 1817 and noted:

              "Many baptisms, marriages and burials of this parish previous to this date [April 1817] are registered in the parish of Wilmot and in a small book attached to them"

            I haven't been able to locate that book, it may be lost, because I have seen no record of the births which occured between 1801 and 1817 - JD]

          census 1838: total in family = 6
          Kings County Probate Records 1814:
            DUGAN John, Aylesford,, 15 Aug 1814*;
                 DUGAN Margery-Mrs, wife.
            [where a death date was not recorded the testamentary date was used and is identified with an asterisk*. In most cases this date is a good approximation of death date, in this case it's very poor.  It's possible that "1814" should be "1844" or "1841" since he was in the 1838 census but not in the 1851 census  - JD]

          [Sometime between Jan 1806 and March 1808 they began spelling Dugan with two gs (Duggan).  It could be that all the gg entries were made on the same day and similiarly misspelled but this happened sporatically in the 1800s and late 1700s, usually to deny being Irish.  William Dugan (1817-1872) changed it back to Dugan, his son John Duggan (1862-1943) made this change again when he was working in Boston probably not to be confused with the Potatoe famine Irish.  George Dugan, his son, changed it back to Dugan - JD]
