This is a map of Kings County (sort of) before 1851 when the county system of government was introduced.  Before that time a township system of government was used.  This map shows Aylesford Township in relation to Cornwallis Township and Horton Township about 1840.

In the very early days, ie the late 1700s, it was not even called Aylesford Township, the people in Wilmot called it Upper Wilmot, the people in Cornwallis called it Lower Cornwallis.  Thus many references are misleading.  For example the memorial of Lawrence Van Buskirk which was written about 1785 would have you believe that he lived in Cornwallis Township whereas he actually settled in Aylesford Township near what is today Kingston.  It doesn't help that people were often moving from one to another.

There are several early maps at the Public Archives in Ottawa.  I have looked at these and have copies of some.  A map with the date of 1787 has only two features, the Post Road and the Morden Road indicating that travel by sea was as important as travel by land, probably more so.
