PALMER, Lewis Fancy - 89, Berwick, Kings Co., passed away Thursday, August 11, 2005, at home. Born in Morristown, Kings Co., he was a son of the late Gifford and Rose (Fancy) Palmer. Lewis was a veteran of the Second World War, serving overseas with the Canadian Army Dental Corps as a vehicle driver and a mechanic traveling throughout Europe and while in England, met and married his wife, Ann. He was mentioned in a Dispatch for distinguished service in the London Gazette on February 1, 1945. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Ortona Branch No. 69, Berwick, where he had been a member of the Sick and Visiting Committee and he had been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal with the Palm Leaf. He was a member of Christ Church Anglican Berwick. He was a veteran member of the Berwick and District Volunteer Fire Department, and served as the first Executive Chief and as Fire Chief from 1957-1960. He had operated Palmer's Garage, Berwick for several years and had been employed at the Kings Rehabilitation Centre, Waterville, as a stationary engineer until his retirement. He had been a volunteer with the Victorian Order of Nurses, including the meals on wheels program. Surviving are his daughter, Annette (Shane) Kelly, Halifax; brothers, Gordon (Sylvia) Palmer, Berwick; John E. (Winnie) Palmer, Morristown, Kings Co.; brother-in-law, William E. Keddy, South Berwick; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Hannah "Ann" (Hargreaves) Palmer; sister, Marguerite Keddy; brother, Mark Lorne Palmer. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, August 14, in H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, from where a Royal Canadian Legion service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, August 15, in Christ Church Anglican Berwick, Rev. Michael McKeage officiating, with burial in the Berwick Cemetery. PARKER (BANKS), Mrs. Ruth A. - widow of Charles Palmer, passed away Thursday morning, March 4th at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Shute, Marlboro, Mass., just forty-eight hours after the death of her son-in-law, Henry R. Shute. Both succumbed following a short illness of pneumonia, thought Mrs. Palmer had been confined to her bed for the past fifteen months. A double funeral service was held Thursday at the family home at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. Elisha Hooper, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church, conducted the service. Mrs. Palmer was born in Pleasant River, Nova Scotia, the daughter of Alexander and Abbie Banks. She possessed many excellent qualities which won her a large circle of friends. Mrs. Palmer leaves one daughter, Mrs. Henry Shute, Marlboro, Mass.; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Ainsley Dunham, Maynard, Mass. and Mrs. Abbie Hodges, North Dakota. A son, Melbourne Palmer of Auburn, N.S., predeceased her several years ago. PARKER, Vera May - 78, Aylesford, died Friday in Western Kings Memorial Hospital, Berwick. Born in Millville, she was a daughter of the late Norman and Ella (Pelton) Dorey. She was a resident of Aylesford all her life. She was a member of the Aylesford Baptist Church and a former member of the Auburn Senior Citizens' Senior Handbell Choir and the Somerset Choir. She is survived by a son, Gerald, Sudbury, Ont.; a daughter, Mariann (Mrs. Don MacKenzie), Canning; six grandchildren; several great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles; a daughter, Evelyn; two brothers, Tom, Harlan; a sister, Evelyn. The body will be in H. C. Lindsay's Memorial Chapel, Berwick, on Sunday, visiting 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral will be 4 p.m. in Aylesford Baptist Church, Rev. Eustace Marshall officiating. Burial in Aylesford Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Blanchard Fraser Memorial Hospital building fund, Western Kings Hospital or any charity. from W. L. PELTON, Stanley Elwood - 54, Waterville, Kings Co., passed away July 10, 2008, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Berwick, he was a son of the late George and Grace (Zwicker) Pelton. Surviving are his wife, Sheila (Patterson) Pelton; children, Kevin, at home; Sandra (Andy Strong) Pelton, Berwick; grandchildren, Amy, Hannah and Ethan; brothers, Mansfield, Waterville; Douglas and Blake, Berwick; Arnold (Kay), Kingston; Curtis (Susan), Port Williams; sisters, Gloria (Lloyd) Baltzer, Aylesford; Lilis Pelton, Beaver Bank; mother-in-law, Donna Marr, Kentville; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his father-in-law, Blake Patterson. Visitation for Stanley will take place 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in H.C. PHINNEY, Stuart Cecil - 67, Billtown, Kings Co., passed away Sunday, August 28, 2005, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Berwick, he was a son of the late Luther and Leona (Porter) Phinney. He had been employed for 23 years as a mechanic in the maintenance department of Hostess Foods until the time of his retirement. He enjoyed camping, playing the guitar, tinkering in the garage, and especially enjoyed and took pride in maintaining his property. He is survived by his wife, the former Barbara Atwood; daughter, Brenda (James) Long, Steam Mill, Kings Co.; son, Christopher "Chris", Coldbrook; sister, Gwen Fancy, Parrsboro. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. today in White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 31. Burial will take place in Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeville. Family flowers only by request. PICK, Darrell Reginald- 51, White Rock, Kings Co., passed away Saturday, July 16, 2005, in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Wolfville, he was a son of Reginald Pick, White Rock and the late Frances (Davison) Pick. Darrell was employed for 30 years with Clifford Long and Sons Limited, White Rock. He was very involved in his community, belonging to the White Rock Dart League, a director of the White Rock Community Association, coached minor baseball in the area, and submitted the White Rock news to the Kentville Advertiser. Darrell was very sports minded and also enjoyed genealogy. In addition to his father, he is survived by daughters, Bobbie Jo, New Ross; Norma Jean, Greenwich; son, Devin, Greenwich; grandchildren, Brayden Hirtle, Paiyton Pick and Ashton Pick; sisters, Lynn (Delbert) Sanford, Kentville; Janet (Allen) Oickle, Greenwich; Sandra (Wayne) Stevens, New Minas; Pamela (Todd) Schofield, Sunken Lake; brother, Larry, White Rock; and several nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation by family request. A funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, in White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. PINEO, William Arthur "Buzz" - 91, Wolfville, Kings Co., passed away in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, on Friday, July 11, 2008, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was the son of the late Everett and Carrie Pineo. He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Bea (Schofield) Pineo; son, John (Beth) Pineo, Bridgetown, and daughter, Judy (Sandy) Macmillan, Wolfville. He was very proud of and much loved by his granddaughters, Sarah Macmillan, Moreno Valley, Calif.; Carrie Macmillan, Toronto; Anne and Ailsa Macmillan, Halifax, all who loved and appreciated his witty sense of humour. His working life was spent with the Wolfville Acadian and Kentville Advertiser newspapers as a compositor and pressman. He enjoyed the outdoor life, hunting and fishing trips, walks in the woods, gardening and family outings. He applied his handyman talents to maintaining their cottage at Evangeline Beach. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held in Wolfville Baptist Church on Wednesday, July 16, at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Willowbank Cemetery, family only, Rev. Dr. Barry Morrison officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Annapolis Valley Chapter of BIANS Inroads Program, or a charity of choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to H.C. PUDSEY, Hugh Barclay - 87, Greenwich, Kings Co., passed away Friday, February 17, 2006, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Greenwich, he was a son of the late Lorne and Ethel (Greene) Pudsey. He was a veteran of the Second World War having served overseas and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Dr. C.B. Lumsden Branch No. 74, Wolfville. He had been employed with various construction companies throughout the area. He enjoyed playing cards, especially crib, watching sports and playing bingo. He is survived by four daughters, Carole Butt, Halifax; Eleanor Pudsey, Kentville; Jane Ford (Blake Hughes), Calgary; Kimberly (Tim) Davison, Georgetown, Ont.; a son, Lorne (Judy), Grande Prairie, Alta.; four grandchildren, Jeffrey and Stephen Pudsey, Nicholas and Brandon Davison; several nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Phyllis Davies; three sisters, Greta Taylor, Eleanor Toner and Ruth Pudsey; three brothers, Gordon, Arthur and Cecil. There will be no visitation by family request. A Royal Canadian Legion service will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, February 20, in White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where a funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 21, Rev. Archdeacon Lynn Uzans officiating. Burial will take place in Oak Grove Cemetery, Kentville. Family flowers only, by request. PULSIFER, Eileen Ann - 61, Kentville, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2005, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Veronica (O'Connor) MacDonald. In her earlier years, she had been very athletic and loved sports. She was the first female firefighter in the Greenwich Volunteer Fire Department, and enjoyed bingo, darts and babysitting. She is survived by her husband, Donald; daughters, Julie (Sean) Reily, Kentville; Cindy Fitzgerald, Kentville; Amanda, at home; son, Donald, Toronto, Ont.; sister, Yvette (Donald) Margeson, Kentville; grandchildren, Chelsea, Justin, Haley, Joseph, Kyle, Reese, and Jasmine; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brother, Peter. There will be no visitation by family request. A funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 9, in White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Rev. Dr. Judith Saunders officiating. Burial will take place in Willowbank Cemetery, Wolfville. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Red Cross or Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses.
