McDOWELL, John Francis - 80, Enfield, died July 2, 1997, at his daughter's home in Enfield. Born February 28, 1917, in Enfield, he was a son of the late Allen and Mary (Horne) McDowell. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving overseas from 1939-1945. He was employed with the Ministry of Transport at the Halifax International Airport for 25 years. He enjoyed spending time with his dog. He is survived by sons, Andrew and wife Joan, Peter and wife Debbie, both of Enfield; Gary and wife Mary, Elmsdale; Mark and Debbie, Calgary; daughters, Sandra (Janie) and husband Tom, Old Guysborough Road; Helen and husband Louie, British Columbia; Mary and husband Roy, Enfield; grandchildren, Gerron, Nancy, Scott, Ian, Jodi, Larry, John, Lindsay and Maggie; great-grandchildren, Trae, Devon and MacKenzie, all of British Columbia; sisters, Frances Doyle and Margaret Adams, both of Enfield. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Elizabeth (Betty) Fitzgerald; brothers, Frank, Leo, Roy and Andrew; sister, Helen Palmer. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, July 4, Legion service 7:30 p.m. today, funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, July 5, all in St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church, Enfield, Rev. Paul Granville, S.J., officiating. Burial in St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Cemetery, Enfield. Reception to follow in the Enfield Fire Hall. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie.
