RAFUSE, Harold
Lawrence "Pick" - 76, Ste. Croix, Hants County, died March
8, 1996, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. He was the son of
the late Kenneth and Ada (Benedict) Rafuse. A veteran of the
Second World War, he served in the Merchant Navy (Murmansk Run),
where he was awarded the Russian Star along with other
decorations. He also served in the Royal Canadian Navy, aboard
the corvette HMCS Nogami until being honorably released
following the war. He continued to remain at sea until 1957
serving aboard the S.S. Ottawa Valley, S.S.Gypsum Queen as chief
boatswain. In 1957 he worked at Imperial Oil Refinery, Dartmouth
and numerous construction sites before retiring due to ill
health. He was a past member of Nova Scotia Labour Union and a
40-year member of Royal Canadian Legion, Hants County Branch 9.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, the former Winnefred
"Winnie" Cochrane; sons, John and wife Sheila (Brewster); Kenny
and wife June (Davis); Michael and wife Valerie (Barker),
Windsor; Brian and wife Irene (Sheppard); Thomas "Tom" and wife
Daphne (Chaffey), Gander, Nfld.; grandchildren, Tabitha Harnish,
Trevor, Kevin, Ronald, Lisa, Cynthia, Larry, Stephen and Justin
Rafuse; Trevor Barker; three great-grandchildren; sister, Edna
(Mrs. Stewart Gordon), Dartmouth; brothers, Roy "Dynie",
Greenwood; Arthur "Art", Lower Sackville; several nieces and
nephews. He was predeceased by son Darrel Edwin; sisters Alma
Gollan, Gladys Randall, Hilda O'Connell; brothers, William
"Bill", Leslie "Paddy" and Clarence. Visitation 7-9 PM tonight,
2-4, 7-9 PM Sunday. Legion service 7 PM, Sunday, funeral 2 PM
Monday, all in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, Rev. Ron Baxter
officiating. Burial is in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor. Family
flowers only. Donation to Canadian Cancer Society or any
charity.
