HALIFAX COUNTY
Fletchers Lake

LOCATION:

The community of Wellington on beautiful Fletcher's Lake is located north of Halifax on Route #2.

WHAT'S IN A NAME?

The area was first known as Fletcher's Bridge, after William Fletcher Sr. who purchase land around the lake bears his name to this day. Landowner Colonel John W. Laurie of nearby Oakfield, then later suggested the settlement's current name in honour of the Duke of Wellington.

WELLINGTON/FLETCHER'S LAKE TODAY:

Over the years, Wellington developed into cottage country. Original summer cottages and cabins were later winterized as residents began to live in the district year round and commute to jobs in Sackville, Bedford, Halifax or Dartmouth.
