MERRITT posted by Debbie Burr on Sunday, April 21, 2002

Gilbert MERRITT was born in Nova Scotia about 1790. He was likey the son of John MERRITT UE. He married Lucy WESTCOTT d/o Thomas WESTCOTT and Chloe CARPENTER in Jan. 1811. They were the parents of 7 or 8 children all born in the area of Sandy Cove or Digby Neck NS, between Nov 1811 and 1826. The family moved to Elgin and Kent Counties in Ontario around 1828. Seeking to find more info on Gilbert's siblings and/or parents.

WESTCOTT posted by Debbie Burr on Sunday, April 21, 2002

Lucy WESTCOTT was born in Dec 1786 likely in Digby County NS. She was the daughter of Thomas WESTCOTT UE and Chloe CARPENTER. She married Gilbert MERRITT in Nov 1811 and after the birth of their children, between Nov 1811 and 1826 they emigrated to Ontario. I have the names of Chloe's siblings but would like to fill in some blanks on that WESTCOTT family. Some of Chloe's nieces and nephews (children of her brother Thomas WESTCOTT Jr.) came to Kent County Ontario as well and stayed with her until settled.
