Marjorie was a member of Trinity Anglican Church, Digby. Her family was her life, dedicated to her husband and children. Marjorie was a true homemaker and caregiver, always thinking of others before herself. Even until the end, she constantly asked about family and friends. Special thanks to her closest friends and to the health care professions in Digby, Yarmouth, Halifax and Dartmouth. He served in the Canadian Air Force for two years at the end of the Second World War. He then worked for 37 years in Ottawa for Canadian Hydrographic Surveys as a certified land surveyor. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, the former Leonice LeBLANC, Meteghan; daughter, Louise (Ted BINKOWSKI) ROBICHAUD, Fountain Hills, Ariz.; son, Marc, Toronto; granddaughter, Alexandra BINKOWSKI; brothers, Robert (Marilyn), Francis (Adele), both of Meteghan; Hubert, North Haven, Conn.; Edmond (Doris), Beverly, Mass.; sisters, Marie COMEAU, West Haven, Conn., and Emma POTHIER, Villa Acadienne, Meteghan. Born in New Tusket, he was a son of the late Herbert and Helena (HASSETT) MULLEN. His favorite pastime was going in the woods with his brothers and his dogs. Leland was an avid cribbage player and enjoyed gathering with his friends to play cards and spend time together. He loved crossword puzzles and finishing them before anyone else could. Leland loved his family dearly and especially enjoyed the visits from his grandchildren. REEVES (HARVIE), Mary May "Beth" - 79, Kentville. It is with deep sadness that we announce Beth's passing in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, on December 14, 2007, with family at her side. Born in Digby, she was the eldest daughter of the late Frederick and Edith (WINCHESTER) HARVIE. Beth received her education at Digby, Hantsport and Windsor, after which she pursued a nursing career, graduating from Halifax Children's Hospital in 1949. She worked for the Victorian Order of Nurses, Halifax, following which she went to Chalk River Hospital, Ont. She later became a stewardess with Air Canada, before returning to her nursing career in the Lancaster Veterans Hospital, N.B. Her main love was for her family, and her involvement with Bridgetown Baptist Church, where she participated in the fellowship and visitation committees. She especially loved visiting her senior friends at Mountain Lea Lodge and in the community at large. People were drawn to her by her sensitive, caring nature and her loving heart. Her love of people was evident in every area of her life. The world will be a little less bright with her passing and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A sincere thank you to the physicians and nurses of the Valley Regional Hospital for their kindness and excellent care extended to Beth during her illness. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, George; son, Mark, Toronto, Ont.; daughter, Susan, Belleville, Ont.; brother, Burton (June) Langley, B.C.; sisters, Donna SLEIGH, Kentville; Charlotte (Wilbur) STARRATT, Bedford; special sister, Patricia BENTLEY; several nieces and nephews. Born November 15, 1910, in Moncton, N.B., and raised in Saint John, she was the only daughter of the late Theodore S. and Rebecca A. (HICKS) BANKS. She was a long-time member of South Range Christian Church, where she sang in the choir for many years, and was a member of the 60-plus Ladies Group. Other activities she enjoyed included picking berries, quilting, and for 20 years camping and trailering with her husband of over 65 years, Lloyd G. SABEAN, now of Tideview Terrace. Besides her husband, she is survived by son, Gary (Ruth), South Range; grandsons, Tim (Andrea), South Range; Steve (Lisa), Digby; Rick (Lori), Digby, and Nathaniel (Megan), South Range; great-grandchildren, Jessica, Drew, Danielle, Amber, Emily and Derian; niece, Anne (Ralph) HOBBS, Saint John; sister- in-law, Clara McCULLOUGH, South Range. FARRELL, Russell Howard - 87, passed away on December 14, 2007, in Digby General Hospital, Digby. Born in Bordentown, N.J. on May 18, 1920, he was a son of the late Joseph and Grace (BUNTEN) FARRELL. He served with the United States Marines in the Second World War in the South Pacific, and was present for the battle on Iwo Jima, and recalled his relief in seeing the American flag flying over Mount Suribachi while fighting down below. He was a well-decorated veteran, awarded the Asian Pacific Medal, American Campaign Medal, Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and being wounded three different times in battle. He was the recipient of two Purple Hearts and a Gold Star. He worked for many years as a machinist in Burlington, Mass. After retirement, in 1976, he moved with his wife, Alice, to her childhood home community at Parker's Cove. They moved to Digby several years ago where he continued to reside since her death in 2005. He was predeceased by his wife, Alice (ANDERSON), and sisters, Lillian and Helene; brothers, Joseph, James and Vincent. He leaves to mourn his children, daughter, Judy; son, Russell Jr. (June); grandson, Matthew; also his children's mother, Barbara, all of California, as well as nieces and nephews in the United States and Canada. He was an avid reader and a great sports fan, faithfully watching his baseball and football games. Russ will be remembered for his devotion to Alice, his love for his children and the brave and sometimes humorous stories of his youth and war experiences. COMEAU, Joseph Emile - Bangor. Emile a Alphonse peacefully passed away in his sleep at age 89 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital after a long battle with cancer on January 2, 2008. He was surrounded by his family and his devoted wife, Bertha. Born October 28, 1918, he was the 12th child of Alphonse and Marcelline (TRAHAN). His birth coincided with the Great Spanish Flu, reason for which he lived with his godmother, Ad�le, in Concession until he was two years old. Raised among the Bangor sawmills, he spent his life in the woods, between his house and his camp at Clear Water Lake. During many years, he was owner-operator of a logging truck. Often in the woods or on the lakes, Emile was a hunter and a fisherman, usually in the company of his dogs. He knew the lines of many pieces of land and the back roads of the Bangor area. Emile was always passionate about the history of his village and told and wrote many memories during his life. We could often find him working on his tractor or his many boats. During the Second World War, Emile volunteered to join the army as a Royal Canadian Engineer in Petawawa. On February 10, 1947, he wed the woman who would be by his side during nearly 61 years, Bertha (COMEAU) COMEAU. Emile was then owner-operator of a salt truck in the municipality of Clare and worked in the machine shop at Comeau Sea Foods. Afterwards, he started his own water delivery business, Emile Comeau Water Service, that he sold to his brother-in-law when he retired. Emile spent his life surrounded by his family and children, David, Meteghan; Denise (Gilles DESAUTELS), Jasmine (Clarence MAILLET) and Ronald (Cathy), all of Bangor; Alice (Claude SAULNIER) and Annette (Michel DEVEAU) of Saulnierville Station. He also leaves behind many grandchildren, Nathalie (COMEAU), Patrick and Yannick Desautels, Tommy and Melissa MAILLET, Stephanie and Simon ROBICHEAU and Janice DEVEAU; great-grandchildren, Alexis and Ad�le COMEAU. Emile leaves his brother, Isa�e, Bangor; sisters, Eva, Salmon River, formerly of Saulnierville, and Rosalie, Church Point. He was predeceased by infant son, Ronald Joseph and by his brothers and sisters, Joseph, Georges, Arcade, Gustave, Prescille, Zita, Camille, Elie, Ben, Jeanne and Bernard. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Meteghan Funeral Service. As requested by the family, there will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, January 5, in Sacred Heart Church, Saulnierville, at 11 a.m., officiated by Rev. Paul Belliveau. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 20, Digby. He was a fisherman most of his life. He enjoyed watching all sports and doing crossword puzzles. Nunnie had a great sense of humour that was enjoyed by all who knew him. As a young man, Murray enjoyed sports, especially hockey with his friends on Theriault's pond in the south end of town. During his working years, Murray was employed at The Digby Courier where he was a linotype operator and later became foreman. Following retirement, he served as weekend guard at the Digby lockup. In the formative years of the Digby Sea Cadets, Murray served as an officer. During this time they experienced traveling to various places including one summer to Esquimalt, B.C. He was a former member of the Digby Volunteer Fire Department for a number of years and played hockey for their team. Murray was a member of the Digby Anglican Church where he was a choir member. Most recently he was employed at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Stephen's outgoing personality was an asset in any position he held. Surviving, besides his parents, are sisters, Cynthia (Allan) GATES, Abbotsford, B.C.; Katharine (Bert HUDGINS) EVANS, Kingston; brothers, Herbert (Thania) and David (Julie), both of Kingston. She lived in Torbrook Mines all of her married life and was a very active member of the community, as well as being an active member of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party. She was the recipient of a Volunteer of the Year Award from the County of Annapolis for all of her years of dedication and work at the Three Rivers Community Centre. Ginny enjoyed knitting, quilting, sewing, and most recently her computer. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend who was always willing to help others. He worked most of his life with the Commercial Travellers Association covering the Maritime provinces. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Bruce was a Provincial NDP candidate in 1978, as well as an active member of KOC Council 4607, West Arichat. He served as a board member and associate member of the Isle Madame Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 150, Arichat. He was a former member of the Richmond District School Board, and sat on the Board of Directors of the St. Joseph's Credit Union in Petit de Grat. He was awarded the Queen Scout from Scouts Canada, of which he was extremely proud. O'FLAHERTY, Robert Anthony Douglas - 66, Digby, passed away with his family at his side in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax, on Thursday, January 31, 2008, at 12:15 p.m. Born in Verdun, Que., he was a son of the late Roy and Violet (LAMING) FLAHERTY. He loved his family and friends, all children and animals. Robert is survived by his brother, Roy; his former wife, Diane; his children, Ross, Colleen and Karen and their spouses, and his grandchildren, Mitchell, Danielle, Erin, Allison, Aiden, Emily, and Connor. Also surviving him are his favourite nieces, Gail, Donna and Rosemary; nephew, Patrick, and numerous other well-loved nieces and nephews. Best friends, Andy and Helen will also be grieving with us. Robert was predeceased by his brothers, Phillip and Fred. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. today and 12-2 p.m. Sunday in Annapolis Valley Funeral home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr. (Exit 14), Coldbrook. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday in Culloden Baptist Church, Culloden, Digby Co., Pastor Nathan WATERMAN officiating. Interment in Culloden Church Cemetery.
