LAWSON, Charles William - 68, of Bayview, Digby Co., passed away peacefully in Digby General Hospital on October 30, 2007. Born in Island Harbour, Fogo Island, N.L., he was a son of the late George and Rebecca LAWSON (LONG). Charles served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 26 years, serving three years in Nato, Germany; several years in the Pine Tree Line, at numerous bases in British Columbia, Alberta, New Brunswick, Ontario, Newfoundland and Nova Scotia., retiring as Sergeant in the field of Physical Education and Recreation. He was awarded the CD, Queen's Jubilee Medal and NATO Special Services Medal. Retiring in 1984, he then spent eight years in the real estate industry. He was a member of the Masonic Order and a Past Master of Keith Lodge No. 16, Bear River. He was a Past Grand Lodge Officer, having served in Annapolis/Digby District as Grand Chaplain in 1998 and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal in 2001. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis (BURNS) LAWSON; brother, George LAWSON (Joyce), Manitoulin Island, Ont.; sister, Dorothy CRITCH (Patrick), Grand Falls, N.L.; brother-in-law, Lewis BURNS (Myrna), Digby; several nieces and nephews, and lifelong friend, Frank "Pepper" Martinello, Sydney, Cape Breton. Special thanks to Digby General Hospital staff, Yarmouth Oncology, VON Digby County, Digby County Palliative Care, Dr. M. Bander, Dr. K. Buchholz. HARLOW (MEUSE), Lois Mae - 72, Bear River, passed away suddenly on October 31, 2007, in Digby General Hospital. Born in Troy, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Charles and Charlotte (CRAVER) KILMER. Lois was devoted to her faith, family and friends. Lois and Frank Sr. were the proud parents of Frank Jr., Theresa (Kevin), Steve (Heather), David (Judy), Rose (Nathan). She is also survived by 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; sisters, Patricia and Ruth; brothers, Charles and Jim. She was predeceased by sister, Peggy, and brother, Harry. A home wake will take place starting this afternoon with visitation any time, day or night. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, November 5, in St. Anne's Church, Bear River First Nation. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery. Donations in memory can be made to the Meuse family. WOODWORTH, Alda Marion - 94, Weymouth, formerly of Bear River East, passed away November 1, 2007, in Digby General Hospital. Born in Bear River East, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Tressa (POTTER) JEFFERSON. Alda was a pediatrics nurse for a hospital in Montreal for a few years. Alda and her husband adopted three children. She is survived by her children; daughters, Susan, Rhode Island; Jean (Clay), California; Richard (Paula), Massachusetts; four grandchildren and several great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Orren WOODWORTH; sisters, Jenny and Abbie, and brothers, Fred, Herbert and Percey. Funeral service will 2 p.m. on Tuesday in Digby Wesleyan Church, Rev. One of his biggest passions was playing cards. He is survived by son, Roger, Meteghan; brother, Douglas, Saulnierville Station; companion, Ang�lle POTHIER, Meteghan. He was predeceased by older sister, Geraldine in infancy. Cremation has followed Sunday's visitations under the direction of Meteghan Funeral Home. HAYNES, Marilyn Ruth - 66, Digby, died November 5, 2007, in Digby General Hospital. She was a daughter of the late Boyd and Alice HAYNES. Marilyn worked for Maritime Tel & Tel in Digby and in Kentville for a total of 33 years, of which she had more than 30 years perfect attendance. Marilyn was an active member of Digby Baptist Church where she kept nursery for several years and enjoyed singing in the choir. She also provided rides to and from church for many others. Marilyn volunteered many hours at the Digby Food Bank. Surviving are sisters, Judy McKNIGHT, Baxter's Harbour; Susan DUGAS (Arnold), Yarmouth; Edna McLEOD (David), Tantallon; Alice Mary DUGAS (Paul), Digby; brothers, George (Diane), Fred (Sandra), Digby; Robert (Sheila), Middleton; and Richard (Mabel), Greenwood; several nieces and nephews. Marilyn was predeceased by her sister, Betty McRAE; and her brother-in-law, Sam McKNIGHT. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in Jayne's Funeral Home, Digby. JARVIS, Lester Ernest - 72, Weymouth Falls, passed away November 4, 2007, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Weymouth Falls, he was a son of the late Victor and Cynthia (LANGFORD) JARVIS. Lester loved music and having fun with his family, especially his grandchildren, and enjoyed them when they would visit. He had a big heart and would always lend a helping hand to others. He was a Christian who spent his last few months preparing his journey to the Lord. He will be sadly missed by his family, in particular his grandchildren (we love you Grampy). A special thanks to Gloria, Mary and Joey for all your heartfelt sincerity and helping with Daddy; thanks to Bryan and Macky for their monthly visits. SIM, Grace Reta - 94, Halifax, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2007, in the Geriatric Assessment Unit, QEII. Born in Marshalltown, Digby Co., on December 16, 1912, she was a daughter of the late Vernon and Tracey (MULLEN) MARSHALL. She was predeceased by sister, Lottie; brothers, Donald, Marshalltown; Ray, New London, Conn. She is survived by her loving husband, George, and they just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in August 2007. Also surviving are daughters, Patricia CLAIR, Halifax; Judy LORWAY, Sydney; son, George Jr., Hubbards. She has eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In her youth, she attended Normal College in Truro and taught school in Digby County and the Valley. She came to Halifax in 1939 and worked at Eatons Post Office and the Treasury Office. She met George at a dance at the Jubilee Boat Club and they married in 1942. She worked as a substitute teacher in Halifax for several years while her children were young. She and George wintered in Florida for 14 years. She was a member of West End Baptist Church, Pepperell Street, and the Waegwoltic Club. She loved to garden and had some of the prettiest flowers on the block. She was also an avid bridge player. Mom always had words of wisdom for her children and we have been so fortunate to have been able to share so many healthy years with her. We will miss you, Mom. Thank you to all the health care staff at 9 Lane for the excellent care of Grace. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. on Thursday in J.A. Helen was an active member of Grace United Church where she was a member of the Ladies Friendship Group and a member of the Central Board. Surviving are her daughters, Joy VIDITO (son-in-law Rodney), Meadowvale, Annapolis Co.; Lisa FLEET, Digby; and her cherished grandson, Nicholas; sister, Janet MERRY, Bedford; brother, Robert WILSON, Seabrook, Digby Co. TIBBETTS, Marjorie Elizabeth - 85, Bear River, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 8, 2007, in Digby General Hospital. Born in Hill Grove, Digby Co., she was a daughter of the late Curtis and Laura Belle (SAVARY) PORTER. Marjorie was a teacher for 36 years at many schools throughout the valley and loved all her students. She taught Sunday school at Bear River United Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Bear River Historical Society, Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary and Bear River New Horizons. She loved to socialize with everyone and especially enjoyed scrabble and doing jigsaw puzzles. Marjorie is survived by her son, Curtis (Linda), and daughter, Eva. She was much loved by her grandchildren, Pam, Joy and David. Also surviving are her sisters, Mary GIDNEY and Audrey (Carlton) CONRAD; brother, Dean (Eva) PORTER, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John TIBBETTS; son, David; brothers, Earle, Roy, Gordon, and Gerald. She will be sadly missed by Christie Kaulback, and all who knew her. Born June 16, 1938, in Corberrie, Digby Co., she was a daughter of the late Edouard and Marie Adele (COMEAU) BLINN. She was a homemaker. Surviving are her husband, Joseph Mande BLINN; son, Michael Blinn, St. Bernard; granddaughters, Tina and Megan BLINN; brothers and sisters, Louis Blinn, Boston; Marie ROBERTS, Bedford; Marguerite COMEAU, New Glasgow; Rita DEVEAU, Dartmouth; Emile BLINN, Digby; Joseph BLINN, Albert BLINN, both of Montreal; Charles BLINN, Lower Sackville; Ruby COMEAU, Ontario. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brother, Nelson BLINN, and sister, Annette BLINN. There will be no visitation by request. LeBLANC, Edward Joseph - 86, Meteghan, went to be with his Lord on November 13, 2007, surrounded by his family, helping him with his journey. He was born in Meteghan Centre on February 6, 1921. He was a son of the late Alphie and Evangeline (SAULNIER) LeBLANC. Edward was a hard worker who took pride in providing for his family. He was a welder by trade and a very good one. He was one of 14 children and had known hard times at a very young age since his mother was left widowed when he was 12 years old. Throughout his life, Edward was, above all else, very charitable. He was always willing to help when he could and was devoted to his church. He loved life and his family, especially his two granddaughters of whom he was very proud. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rosalie; his daughter, Vernisia (Eric) GAUDET; granddaughters, Jocelyn and Alice; sisters, Agnes DEVEAU, Leah MELANSON, Emma MELANSON, Therese THERIAULT, and Angele BALOCHE; brother, Eddie LeBLANC. He was predeceased by sisters, Elise McBRIDE and Stella DUGAS; brothers, Alphonse, Bernard, Agno, Alfred, and Antoine. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Meteghan Funeral Home. Pete served with the Royal Canadian Navy for 25 years, retiring in 1967. Pete was the Chief Laboratory Technologist at Digby General Hospital for 23 years, retiring in 1990. Pete was active with the Boy Scouts of Canada. He enjoyed sailing, gardening (especially growing roses), visiting family and travelling. Pete was a member of the Order of Good Cheer and the "Irving Coffee Club". Pete had many friends and has touched many lives. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. HALLETT, Eileen - 83, Weymouth, passed away on November 23, 2007, after having suffered a stroke in late September. She was a daughter of the late Lt. Col. Stanley and Sarah HALLETT. Educated in Weymouth, Eileen joined the Canadian Army in 1942 and served until the end of the Second World War. She later joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1951 and served three more years spending part of that time in Germany. Her civilian working life was spent with Canada Post from which she retired as postmaster in Weymouth. Eileen was an active member of St. Peter's Anglican Church in Weymouth North, serving as treasurer. She was a member of the church ACW women's group, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Weymouth, as well as the Weymouth Historical Society and the Weymouth Garden Club. She is survived by her sister, Maureen (Jack) McFETRIDGE of Kentville; nephew, Andrew (Enid) ELLIOT of Dartmouth; and niece, Anne McFETRIDGE of Fredericton, N.B. Eileen will be remembered for her positive outlook on life, her spirit of generosity and compassion and her caring, loving heart. She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald; sisters, Lisa, Leta, and Erma; brothers, Hantford, Chester, Perry, and Carl. Visitation 4-6, 7-9 p.m. today in Jayne's Funeral Home, 7 Birch St., Digby. GAUDET, Rita Marie - 85, Halifax. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rita, loving wife, mother and grandmother. She died in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, on November 27, 2007, one day after she happily celebrated her 85th birthday at home with her family. Extremely proud of her Acadian heritage, Rita was a kind, caring, generous, woman with a wonderful sense of humour. Born in Comeauville, Digby Co., she was the daughter of Lezin and Marie (COMEAU) MELANSON. She will be deeply missed by her husband of 64 years, Ernest; her son, Melvin (Cherie), Halifax; her daughters, Doreen, Halifax; Linda WOLFE (Fred), Oakville, Ont.; and her granddaughters, Shannon (Anthony) and Andrea (Adrian), Oakville. She is also survived by her brother, Norman (Hilda) MELANSON, Dartmouth. Visitation will be held in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax, on Friday, November 30, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will take place Saturday, December 1, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Theresa's Catholic Church, North Street, Halifax. GUY, Mayda "Marcia" - Halifax, having survived a stroke, which left her handicapped, renal failure, open heart surgery, and most recently peritonitis, celebrated her 50th birthday on June 5. She died peacefully on November 27, 2007, in the VG Site, QEII, where she had been a nephrology patient since October 26. She was a daughter of the late Pauline GUY, and foster daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bradford BARTON Sr., Acaciaville, and of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frederick JOHNSON, Weymouth Falls. Marcia graduated from Weymouth Consolidated High School and Annapolis County Vocational School. Prior to becoming ill, Marcia was a receptionist of the Supreme Court, Family Division. She became a peritoneal dialysis peer counsellor and took great pride in being a member of Halifax Regional Municipality Access-A-Bus Committee. Marcia had also been a Big Sister. Many marveled at her tenacity at continuing to exercise her green thumb both outdoors and indoors. Marcia openly loved shopping, reading, babies, trying new recipes, her computer and whizzing around the city in her motorized wheelchair. She is survived by her sisters, Gertie MILLER, Halifax; Patricia SMALL, Toronto; Amoretta PRICE (Paul LAWSON), Velma (Marvin) CROMWELL, all of Weymouth Falls; Irma JOHNSON, Anna (Barry) RIDEOUT, Dartmouth; Edy Guy-Francois, Dartmouth; as well as close cousins, Violet MANUEL, Dartmouth; Brad BARTON, Pearline JACKSON, and Shirley OFFICER; cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. Marcia was predeceased by sister, Sheila GUY; brothers, Ernest Oliver and Ernest Farmer. Visitation will be held Friday, November 30, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., and funeral service 11 a.m. Saturday, December 1, both in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax, Rev. Trevor Lightfoot will be officiating, assisted by Rev. Barry Connor. Interment at a later date in Acaciaville. Family flowers only. 2007 Arthur Thomas HENDERSON

HENDERSON, Arthur Thomas - 81, died November 28, 2007, at his home in Weymouth. Born in Montreal, he was a son of the late James and Celena (RYAN) HENDERSON. Arthur spent four years in the navy and was in the second group to graduate from Cornwallis Naval Base. He then spent 25 years with Bombardier, formerly Montreal Locomotives. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Montreal. After retirement in 1983, Art moved to Weymouth where he became involved in many community activities. He was a long-time member of the Weymouth Kiwanis Club, serving as president for two terms. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 67. He was a member and president of the Weymouth Garden Club for Nova Scotia. For 25 years he supervised young people in developing and maintaining public gardens in the community. He was an active member of Heartz Memorial United Church and a loyal member of the Weymouth Historical Society. Along with his dedicated volunteering, the community will miss his love of conversation, his spirited opinions and his sense of humour. Arthur is survived by his wife, Teresa; brother, William, Georgetown, Ont.; nephews, Ross and Brock, and five nieces. He was predeceased by brother, Donald. There will be no funeral service. Committal of ashes will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Serenity Funeral Home and Crematorium, P.O.
