HATCHER, Lois Muriel - 85, Herring Cove, passed away March 1, 2003, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Weymouth North, she was a daughter of the late Margaret and Ary DOTY (Weymouth North). Lois was a long-time resident of Herring Cove, raising five children. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a wide circle of close friends and will be missed by all who knew her. You became a better person by just by knowing her. Surviving are daughters, Patricia (Mrs. John DARRACH), California; Jacqueline (Mrs. Richad MACINTYRE), Halifax; sons, William, Ketch Harbour; Tom, Herring Cove; Tim, Herring Cove; sister, Joyce (Mrs. Ernest TIBAULT), Ontario; brother, Ernest DOTY, Digby; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Roy A. HATCHER; sisters, Madeline, Jean, Lillian, Joanna, Alice; brother, Winthrop. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to Cruikshank's Funeral Home, 2032 Robie St., Halifax, where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. today, March 5, in the chapel, Rev. Ron Clark officiating. Reception will be held after the service followed by burial. Burial in Fairview Cemetery, Windsor Street, Halifax. Flowers greatly appreciated. DOREY, Gordon Leroy - 75, Parkers Cove, Annapolis Co., passed away March 5, 2003, in Annapolis Community Health Centre, Annapolis Royal. Born in Faulklin Ridge, he was a son of the late Etta (DOREY) WEIR and the stepson of the late Austin WEIR. He was a truck driver all of his life and owner of Coast Line Contracting Ltd. He was also a former member of the Liberal Association of Nova Scotia and Trucker's Association of Annapolis County. An avid country music fan and guitar player, he was a big fan of Ernest Tubb, Hank Snow and Hank Williams. He will be sadly missed by his pet companions, Pee-Wee the dog and Elmo the rabbit. He is survived by sons, Gordon DOREY Jr. (Cheryl), Roxville, Digby Co.; Bryon (Nicole), Yarmouth; Dean (Janice), Granville Centre, Annapolis Co.; Kevin (Veronica), Lawrencetown, Halifax Co.; sisters, Bessie MELANSON and Rosella PYE, both of Annapolis Royal; grandchildren, Chad, Amanda, Chelsea and Robert. He was predeceased by his wife, Alice; son, Robert 'Bobby'. Funeral service 2 p.m. today, Rev. Mark SHAW and Pastor Dwight COLE officiating, in Robert L. Hall Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. Born March 16, 1935 in Weymouth Mills, Digby Co., she was a daughter of Ester (COOK) MARSHALL and the late Walter MARSHALL. She was a homemaker, and was a volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society as well as a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Ladies Auxiliary. Surviving are her husband, Lloyd SMITH, as well as her former husband, John MCCORMACK; sons, John, Maple Ridge, BC; Roger, Yarmouth; daughters, Faye (John) LEBLANC, Debbie MCCORMACK, Anne THIBEAU, Joyce MILLS, Sheila MCCORMACK, Karen MCCORMACK, all of Yarmouth; brother, Albert COOK, Bridgewater; sisters, Joan MARSHALL, Edith SKINNER-ARNOLD, both of Ontario; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. WOODMAN, Phyllis Alexia - 87, Digby, passed away April 27, 2003, in Digby General Hospital. Born in Digby, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Eveleth and Constance Beatrice (VANTASSELL) WOODMAN. She went to school in Digby and then graduated as a nurse from the Women's General Hospital, Westmount, Que., in 1945. She worked for 30 years at Reddy Memorial Hospital in Montreal, retiring in 1980. After retiring she lived in Halifax, she was a member of St. Matthias Anglican Church, Halifax and a member of the Hazel Paul Group. She was a member of St. Paul's Church in Marshalltown. Surviving are sisters, Violet CAMERON, Windsor; Beatrice LUTZ, Digby; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Driffield, Coleman, Curry, Edmund 'Duke', Kenneth 'Ted'; sisters, Cynthia, Connie, Frances. No visitation. Born in Vancouver, B.C., he was the son of the late Mathew and Edith (WHITE) OLIVER. He was a member of the R.C.N. for 28 years. He served during the Second World War and the Korean War. He was a valued member of the Canadian Postal Services in Digby, where he worked as a postal clerk, after his retirement from the R.C.N. He was a member of the Dominion of Canada Rifle Association, where he represented Canada a number of times, during international competition at Bisley, England. Howard was an avid sport sailor who also enjoyed sport fishing. Surviving are his wife, Phyllis; son, Howard William Arthur (Rita), Meteghan; stepdaughter, Maxine KEATING, Lower Sackville; stepsons, Terry James (Wendy), Windsor; Wayne James (Linda), Calgary, Alta. ; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Agnes was a much loved teacher who began her teaching career at the age of 19 in Marshalltown. She went on to teach in Berwick, Digby, Annapolis Royal and Bedford. She is survived by a number of nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her husband, Clyde FLETCHER; sisters, Mary WIRRELL, Margaret Ritchie SCOTT and Frances FOSTER; one brother in infancy. DENSMORE, Donald Hartley - passed away May 6, 2003 in the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro after a brief battle with lung cancer. Born April 22, 1926 in East Noel, he was a son of the late Burton and Harriett (HIGGINS) DENSMORE. Donald was a retired dairy farmer, having operated the family farm in East Noel for twenty nine years, retiring in 1989. He was previously employed with. H. T. Warne Lumber Ltd.; for seven years as a bulldozer operator and truck driver, and with Maritime Moving and Storage, Halifax for six years as a truck driver and service station operator. Married to Alma CHUTE July 17, 1954 in Digby. Alma passed away July 20, 1996. He is survived by son Ronald and wife Beth, East Noel, daughter Brenda and Husband Steve THORPE, Beaverbank, sister Doreen and husband Gilbert BARKHOUSE, Windsor, grandchildren Darren, Holly and Chantel. He was predeceased by brothers Trueman, Blair and Claude; sisters Freda and Kathleen and a grandson in infancy. Donald accomplished a lot in his life. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a proud member of the community. East Noel was home and being able to take over the family farm meant a lot to him. She was a member of Kemptville United Baptist Church, and the church treasurer for many years. Her life revolved around her family. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Nellie had a rich personality to anyone she met. Born August 24, 1909 in Little Brook, Digby Co., she was a daughter of the late Phillip and Elizabeth (LOMBARD) SAULNIER. She was a business woman, and was a Registered Nurse from Kings County Hospital, Brooklyn, New York. Bernadette also served on the executive of the Victorian Order of Nurses for a time. She was also a gardener and a homemaker. Surviving are daughters, Joan (George) SEMPLE, Yarmouth, and their children, Robert (Joanne) SEMPLE, Gavelton and Sara (Robert) HAZEL, Quincy, Mass.; Anne CAIN, and her children, Daylian CAIN, Pittsburgh, Penn. and Kelly CAIN, Yarmouth; great grandchildren, Ryan SEMPLE and Mataghen HAZEL; a sister, Mrs. Evangeline POTHIER, Yarmouth. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward BABIN; a brother, John SAULNIER. It has been requested that there be no visitation or funeral service. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to H.M. STEVENS, Gordon Reis - 53, Barton, Digby Co., formerly of Malagash and Truro, passed away peacefully August 6, 2003, at home. Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late Lloyd and Muriel (MATTINSON) STEVENS. Gordon worked as a mechanic in the Truro area, loved to hunt, tell stories and had a great sense of humor. Gordon is survived by his loving wife, Nancy (LOMBARD); daughter, April (Dana) WEATHERBEE, Belmont; son, Lloyd (Rhonda) SWAN, Wentworth; sisters, Allyson HAYMAN, Sharon (Ken) BYERS, both of Truro; brother, Ian (Phyllis), Halifax; grandchildren, Danica, Alyssa and Gordon. Special thanks to VON Homecare and Dr. Harding, Digby. As per Gordon's wishes, there will be no service or visitation. Donations in memory may be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses, Digby Branch, or a charity of one's choice. LANDERS, Annie May - 93, Sandford, Yarmouth Co., died August 18, 2003. She was born in New Tusket, Digby Co., on September 18, 1909. She was predeceased by her parents, H. Burgess and Lottie (NISBET) GREENE; her husband, Robert H. LANDERS; brothers, Henry, Charlie, Clifford, Elwood. She is survived by sister-in-law, Dorothea LANDERS; stepbrother, Dr. H. Burgess SABEAN; stepsisters, Eva LEWIS and Dorothy COSMAN; children, Dr. Robert E. (Amy) LANDERS, Floris LANDERS, Arnold (June) LANDERS, Harold (Jean Dolores) LANDERS; grandchildren, Timothy LANDERS, Ruth (Dr. Robert) HICKMAN, Beth (Robin) CHURCHILL, Robert (Susanne) LANDERS, Eric LANDERS, Charles (Janet) LANDERS, Graham (Sandra) LANDERS, Pamela (Stephen) DEVER, Harold G. LANDERS, Shelley LANDERS, Treena LANDERS, Troy (Natasha) LANDERS; 15 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Prior to marriage she taught school for two years in Havelock. In 1931, she married and moved to Sandford where she brought up her family. She was an active member of Sandford Wesleyan Church. She served as Provincial President of the Women's Christian Temperance Union. She was greatly loved by her children. She loved and enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow and develop. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth, where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel, Pastor William MOORE officiating. Interment in Sandford Cemetery. Donations to the Red Cross Society, Victorian Order of Nurses Yarmouth Branch or Sandford Cemetery Fund. He is survived his wife Ruth (HAMPTON) his 10 children, Sheila (KEY), Linda (SURVILLION) Lionel-Renard, Sharon, Llewellyn-Raymond (HAMPTON) all of Chicago, IL, Amina, Shamonica, Wyuanita, Zerrick (DANIELS) all of Michigan. His 10 brothers, 6 sisters and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and special friends, Lena Protho and DeAngelo Finley.
