Ainslie Stailing HANDSPIKER, resident of Digby, passed away at his home on Thursday morning suddenly. Born at Mount Pleasant, 82 years ago, he was the son of the late Charles and Margaret THIBODEAU HANDSPIKER. He was employed with the Maritime National Fish as a fish handler for over forty years. He was a member of the Grace United Church and also a member of the Canadian Order of Foresters. Surviving, besides his wife, the former Dora HANDSPIKER, are three sons, Arnold, Garnet and Osborne, of Mount Pleasant, a daughter, Audrey (Mrs. Cecil VANTASSEL) of Digby, twenty-three grandchildren and several great- grandchildren. The remains rested at Jayne's Funeral Home in Digby and Saturday, when they were taken to Grace United Church for service at 2/3 p.m. Rev. B. H. HUGHES conducted the service and interment was at Fairview Cemetery, Digby.

Mrs. Eva Irene CORKUM, widow of Nelson CORKUM, died Monday. Mrs. CORKUM was Berwick's oldest resident. Born at North Range 94 years ago, she was the daughter of Lewis and Elizabeth BELL COOK. Mr. CORKUM predeceased her in 1928. Left to mourn her passing are two daughters, Mrs. KENNEDY, Berwick, with whom she made her home, Mrs. E. O. RANDALL, Auburn, two brothers, Burce and Oscar of North Range. Funeral services were held from H. C. Lindsay's Funeral Home, Berwick, on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Rev. James DAVIDSON officiating. Burial in the family lot in Berwick Cemetery.

She is survived by two sons Arthur and Percy and a daughter Mrs Ralph THERIAULT all of Digby. The funeral was held from Grace United Church , Digby at 2 pm , Monday . Rev. R.H. HUGHES officiated and interment was in Fair view Cemetery.

He was a member of the Church of Christ Disciples and St. George Lodge IOOF for the past 52 years. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs A.I. MILLER , Edmonton Alta. and Mrs R.M. JOHNSTON , South Range. Funeral service was held at the Rossway Baptist Church at 2pm on Sunday. Rev. J. W. DERBY officated. The St. George's Lodge held a graveside service. Interment was in the Rossway Cemetery

Mary Adelaide (Addie) HUBBARD passed away in the Yarmouth Hospital on March 10 after a lengthy illness. 83 years of age, she was born in Salmon River, the daughter of the late Mr. And Mrs. Michael ROBICHAUD. Funeral services were at the 9 o'clock Mass. St. Ambrose Cathedral. Rev. Father ROBICHEAU of the Villa St. Joseph, officiated. She had been living at Villa St. Joseph since last summer. Surviving are five daughters: (Lillian) Mrs. Winston SCOVILLE, Yarmouth; (Leta) Mrs. Lew CROSBY, South Ohio; (Olive) Mrs. Wm. MEAKIN, Halifax; (Irene) Mrs. Karl NICKERSON, Yarmouth; (Frances) Mrs. Taft WALLACE, Yarmouth; six sons: Lawrence, Nelson, Yarmouth; Melbourne, Moncton; Douglas, Amherst; Leslie, Truro; Donald, Camp Borden, Ont.; and one brother, John ROBICHEAU; also 58 grandchildren, 78 great-grandchildren. The remains rested at Sweeny's Funeral Home until the funeral service.

Digby- Boyd LeRoy RICE, retired Bear River Millwright, died at Digby General Hospital on Sunday. Born at Lansdowne, Digby Co., 83 years ago, he was a son of the late Melbourne and Mary Elizabeth CARTY RICE. His wife, the former Susie KEMPTON of Maitland Bridge, predeceased him 20 years ago. He was engaged in lumber mill operations for the greater part of his life both in Bear River and with Miller Gordon Box Co., Carleton. He retired in 1951 and for the past nine years has resided at Barton with his daughter, Evelyn. He was a deacon of the Bear River Baptist Church and a valued member of the church choir for many years.

His wife, the former Nan -- Mary SMITH, predeceased him. Mr. KENNEDY was well-known superintendent of Mount Hope Cemetery, Bear River for over 40 years. He was a past Officer of friendship Lodge I. O. O. F., a member of the Bear River United Baptist Church. Surviving are two sons, Carl of Halifax, Leslie of Bear River, a brother Gordon in Boston and a sister Mrs. Eva SMITH of Maine. Funeral service was held on Wednesday from United Baptist Church, Bear River conducted by Rev. A. HUBLEY. Interment was in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Digby -- Edna Earle, widow of Leslie M. BAIRD passed away at the Victoria General hospital on Saturday. Born at Virginia East, Annapolis County, 80 years ago, she was a daughter of the late David B. and Nettie BEELER WRIGHT. Her husband predeceased her two years ago. She was a member of the Clementsvale Baptist Church and served for many years as Church Treasurer. At the time of her death she was Treasurer of the Clementsvale Cemetery fund. She is survived by his son, Donald of Clementsvale; daughter Emma (Mrs. N. A. PATTERSON), Kentville; two brothers, Millage WRIGHT of Annapolis, and Eustance WRIGHT of Princedale; sister Daisy (Mrs. Harris SIBINS) Graywood, Annapolis County. The remains will rest at Jaynes Funeral Home, Digby until Tuesday when they will be taken to the Clementsvale Baptist Church for service at 2 p.m., Rev. W. ARMSWORTHY will conduct the service and interment will be at Clementsvale.

DIGBY - John Teasdale TAYLOR, aged Clementsport resident, died at his home on Monday. Born at Torbrook 88 years ago he was a son of the late Marsden and Lavenia (SPROULE) TAYLOR. He has resided at Clementsvale for over 50 years. Surviving besides his wife the former Ida May SPROULE are sons, Roy of Greenland; Everett of Clementsvale; daughters, Evelyn (Mrs. Stanley MALING) Clementsvale, and Leota (Mrs. E. A. DEMONTE) Berkley, Mich. He is also survived by a brother Fred of Wilmot, N.S. Funeral services will be held from the Clementsvale Gospel Hall on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Robert MCILWAINE will conduct the services and interment will be at Clementsvale. The body is at his late residence.

WEYMOUTH - Prominent Weymouth businessman George Owen HANKINSON died Wednesday in Digby General Hospital following a lenghty illness. He was 83. Born in Weymouth, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank HANKINSON and lived in Weymouth all his life. He began his business life as an employee at Campbell's Store and later ran a flour and feed business. This business expanded into a general merchadising and lumber business and came to handle the distribution of lumber to all parts of the world. He formed the Hankinson Shipbuilding Co. and among the ships built were "The Esther II" and the "Les LeBlanc". He was also the owner of the "Lucille", the "Quite", "Utilia", "Jessie and Alice" and the "Daniel Getson". He held an interest in the "Grace Hankinson" which hauled freight from Weymouth, Saint John and intermediate ports. He was a member of the Canadian Order of Foresters. Mr. HANKINSON is survived by his wife, the former Maude GATES; five sons, Scott, Curtis and Kenneth of Weymouth; James of Middleton, and George of Watertown, Mass.; four daughters, Margaret (Mrs. George WAGNER) of Weymouth, Grace (Mrs. Harry SPARKS) of Kirkwood, Mo., Esther (Mrs. Harvey HICKSON) and Klara (Mrs. Edwin GOVE) of North Wayne, Me. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held from the Riverside Baptist Church on Sunday at 2 p.m. with Rev. A. Barkhouse officiating and Rev. Ward MacLean, Mr. Hankinson's nephew assisting. Interment will be in Riverside cemetery. "James of Middleton should have been written Thomas of Middleton.�

Digby - Miss Elizabeth WALKER MACMULLEN, one of Digby's oldest citizens died at her residence on Friday following a lengthy illness. She spent many years of her life in the United States serving in her profession as a nurse. She was a member of Trinity Anglican Church. Born at Digby 88 years ago, she was a daughter of the late Miner HUNTINGTON and Josephine (MEAD) MACMULLEN. She was predeceased by a sister Ella, in 1959. She was the last of her immediate family. The remains will rest at her residence until this afternoon when they will be taken to Trinity Anglican Church for service at 2 pm. Rev. James PIKE will conduct the service. The body will then be forwarded to Boston where the remains will be interred in Mount Hope cemetery. Watermans and Son will be in charge of arrangements in Boston.

Frederick Bishop THOMAS 92, a native of Sandy Cove, died at the Kings County Hospital , Waterville on Sunday. He was the son of the late Captain Charles P. THOMAS and Isabella BISHOP THOMAS . He worked in the United States with the New Haven Railroad as a telegrapher until ill health forced him to retire. He is survived by seven nieces and four nephews. A brother and four sisters predeceased him. The funeral service was on Tuesday at the Sandy Cove United Baptist Church Cemetery at 2pm with Rev. Victor MERSEREAU officiating

1965 Captain Fred Prime

Captain Fred PRIME, 79, died at Medford, Mass.last week. Born in Eastport, he was the son of Charles and Annie (Ossinger) Prime of Tiverton, N.S. His parents died when he was a boy and he made his home with his uncle, Joseph OSSINGER. At age 11 he went to sea on his uncle's trawler the "Dove". At age 18 he was shipwrecked with the "James W. Cousins". At age 25 he owned and operated his own fishing vessel out of Digby. The vessel was lost in heavy fog on Yarmouth Cape. He then became 3rd mate on an American steamship operating between Spain and Italy. Then 2nd mate on a coal carrier between Norfolk and Boston. He served as 1st mate on board the steamer Yarmouth, when she was put on the run between Boston and Yarmouth. He also served as 1st and 2nd mate on the steamer Evangeline during WWII. His wife was the former Ruby BENT of Digby who died in 1961. He leaves son Allan, Medford; stepson William PIKE, Reading and stepdaughter, Mrs Richard GRAHAM, Melrose. He was a summer visitor to Tiverton where he kept a summer home. He resided at Medford for 36 years. Interment was at Forest Hill Cemetery, Digby.

A funeral service was held at Jayne's Funeral Home , Digby on Saturday at 2PM , Rev. H. S .Hartlin conducted the service and interment was at Hill Grove.

Surviving are sons Douglas of Hamilton Ont.;Reginald and Ronald of Digby;daughters Mrs Carrie CLARKof Saint John NB ;Dorothy [Mrs Ross HARLOW ] of Digby ;Louise [Mrs Clayton MCKEIL] , Lower Sackville; Myrna [Mrs Willard BUCKLEY] , Saint John NB A son Howard and daughter Edith and Hazel are dead.She is survived by a brother Robert WEAGLE of West Calendoniaand a sis ter IRIS Mrs Charles MAHANEY of Maitland Bridge. Her body rested at Jayne's Funeral Home , Digby. The funeral was from the Grace United Church at 3PM on Saturday. REv. H.H. Hughes officiating. Interment was in Digby.
