MRS J.W. MILBURY There passed away suddenly at Bear River on February 27 after a short illness Flidia J. MILBURY , widow of John W. MILBURY. The deceased was about 72 years of age and is survived by one daughter Mrs Fred SCHMIDT with whom she made her home and one son J. W. MILBURY of Concord Mass, also two sisters Mrs A.P. WALSH of Bear River and Mrs E. J. CHUTE of Detroit Michigan and one brother Charles HARRIS of Bear River . The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon March 3 with the Rev. A.M. MACK and Rev. A.W. L. SMITH officiating . Interment was in Mount Hope Cemetery.

MRS V.T. HARDWICK The interment took place at Bear River N.S. Saturday February 28 of Mrs Sarah HARDWICK widow of the late V.T. HARDWICK , for many years post master at Bear River. Mrs HARDWICK was about 76 years of age and was the daughter of the late Dr. I.K. WILSON , of Barrington. She leaves one daughter , widow of the late J. Harold LOVITT of Yarmouth , now resident of Philadelphia with whom the deceased of recent years made her home and where she so suddenly passed away. Dr. Howard WILSON of Barrington is a brother. The deceased was widely and favorably known and leaves a large circle of relatives and friends .She was active and benovelent in church work and by her bright and happy disposition endeared herself to all with whom she came in contact.

Myrtle had not been in very good health for some time , being troubled with her heart , and also having the mumps , from which she could not rally, but passed away on April 26th.She leaves to mourn her sorrowing father and mother , five sisters Miss Gertrude in New York and Misses Helen, Viola, Lida, and Frances , also one brother Garfield , all at home. Much sympathy is felt for the sorrowing ones. The deceased was 16 years of age , I.D. Harvet , Little River officiated at the service

Friday 1926 June 4 On Tuesday May 18th. , Henry W. KINNEY ,Ashmore , passed to his heavenly home att he age of 67 years. He was strickened with a painful disease two years ago that he bore with Christian fortitude . Last September he went to the V.G. Hospital , Halifax , for an operation which gave him but temporary relief. He leaves to mourn a widow , who was Annie E. WARNE , Hill Grove ; one son William at home; five daughters , Mrs Herbert J. KINNEY , Ashmore; Mrs F.C. MINARD , Kempt, Queens Co. , Mrs E.O. BROOKS , Malden MA , Miss Renetta and Jane , Malden MA ; one aged brother Leander KINNEY , Ashmore ; three sisters two in MA and Mrs Thresa BLACKADAR, Weymouth In early life , Mr. Kinney 's peace was made with God and he could sing with great assurance " It is well with my Soul"" The funeral service was held on Friday afternoon , conducted by Rev. M. B. Whitman , pastor of the Wymouth Baptist Church. Interment in the Riverside Cemetery.

HARRY P. COMEAU WAS MURDERED NEAR BOSTON Victim of assault Dies in Ispwich Hospital four days after Struck Down. Interred at Plympton Yesterday With the last rites of Mother church and followed by the prayers of a multitude of neighbours and friends , the remains of Harry P. COMEAU were laid to rest in Plympton cemetery yesterday. Rev. Fr. LE BLANC of Weymouth celebrating Requiem Mass. Harry COMEAU was the son of Mr. and Mrs Reuben COMEAU , Marshalltown . He lived with a brother , Douglas in Manchester , MA and worked in Ipswich. Wednesday of last week when returning home he was the victim of a muderous assualt by a man by the name of MEADER , who drove up in a car, stepped to the sidewalk and dealt Harry a blow over the head . He then drove -off but returned and took the injured man to a hospital , where he told a story of having seen COMEAU fall. The hospital medical officer's report condradicts the story being that the blow was from a heavy blunt instrument. MEADER was arrested. COMEAU never regained consciousness and died on Saturday at two o'clock in his thirty third year. On Sunday the members of Essex Fire Brigade and Essex Post American Legion held a memorial service for the deceased and the body accompanied Bernard and Douglas and his mother , Mrs COMEAU who had arrived in Boston on Sunday was forwarded to Digby where the untaker Stanley KEEN took it in charge and directed the funeral.

The death took place at Brighton on Tuesday of Mrs DOANE after an illness of only a few days. Her late husband was lost at sea some years ago and her children are resident in the United States. They have been sent for and funeral arrangements will be made after their arrival.

Digby courier 27 January 1928 The death of John W. ADAMS occurred at his home at Deep Brook on Sunday evening Jan.8th. aged 69 years. He passed quietly away after a painful and lingering illness which was borne with much patienceand resignation,lasting over a period of more than two years. The deceased was the eldest son of the late Morris and Eliza ADAMS. His entire life was spent in Deep Brook. He was honest and upright in his dealings ,a man of quiet retiring disposition ,much devoted to his family . 39 years ago he was united in marriage to Mrs Ella GILLIATT RITCHIE, of Clementsport . 25 years ago he was baptized by Rev. Ward Fisher and united with the Baptist Church. For many years he served on the board of Trustees and was a valued friend of the church when in financial need. Funeral service was held on Wednesday afternoon Jan.11th. conducted by Rev. WG Heisler who gave a conforting message to the family and a large gathering of relatives and friends.The choir rendered three appropiate hymns, 'In the Garden 'by request , "I am Nearer My Home'" and " Asleep In Jesus" He is survived by his wife ,two sons , Howard of Deep Brook and Kenneth of Topsfield MA. Two brothers , Edgar and Loran of Deep Brook ;two sisters , Mrs Howard ANDERSON ,of Digby and Mrs Edward WINCHESTER ,of Smith 's Cove,also two half sisters . Interment took place in the Thomas Cemetry , Smith's Cove . A large circle of relatives and friends extend their sympathy to the bereaved family.

Funeral services were held from the United Baptist Church of which she was a member, on Wenesday , the services being conducted by the Rev, R. E. Bishop , pastor of the church. Mrs Stailing is survived by a step-son , Ensley STAILING of Belmont MA and a neice , Miss Jessie Hopkirk of Boston. Mrs Stailing was twice married . Her first husband wasCapt. JENKINS , master marnier . After his death she married George STAILING. , who preceased her twenty years ago. for many years Mrs STAILING conducted a boarding house , known as Harmony Lodge in Digby. For the past ten years she has made her home with Mr. and Mrs. A. J. WESTHAVER , Montague Row. She had been in failing health for some time and death was not unexpected.

The church was filled with the sorrowing relatives and friends to pay their last respect to one they loved. our heart felt sympathy goes out to the sorrowing ones.

Mrs. E. F. HANKINSON � There pasted away at Weymouth, June 10th, Eunice Heartz SAUNDERS, wife of E. F. HANKINSON and daughter of the late Robert and Mary SAUNDERS of Sandy Cove and granddaughter of the late William and Margaret BISHOP of Digby, leaving a husband and three children. Rae at Normal School, Mary and John at home. One sister, Mrs. Floyd SNOW of Digby and two half sisters, Mrs. R. S. SMALL of Tiverton and Miss Mildred OUTHOUSE (R.N.) who was called to her bedside but could only stand beside her for God had called her home. Mrs. HANKINSON a few years ago fell on the ice hurting her spine but had been active up to her death which ended in a stroke. She was a devoted follower of the Methodist Church, but was buried in her husband�s family lot in the Baptist Cemetery. The floral offerings were beautiful and our sympathy goes out to the bereaved ones as just five months before they brought the body of their eldest son Clinton home for burial

Mr. Corkum had been in failing health since May and two weeks ago he suffered a shock from which he did not rally. The deceased had been almost a lifelong resident of this community. Born in Chester, the son of the late Charles and Catherine CORKUM of that place he came to Berwick with his parents when only a small boy. He is survived by his wife, formerly Miss Eva COOK, of North Range, Digby County, and two daughters, Bessie, at home, and Mrs. Blanche KENNEDY of the composing-room staff of The Register; also two little granddaughters, Ruth and Dorothy KENNEDY. Two sisters, Mrs. Mary WHITE, North Range, and Mrs. Boardman BURBIDGE, of West Natick, Mass., and one brother, Judson, of Booth Bay, Maine, also survive. Funeral services were held from his late residence, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o�clock, with Rev. H. E. Allaby, pastor of the Berwick Baptist Church, officiating. DEATH OF MRS. WM. WILKINS Many friends of Mrs. Zoe WILKINS were saddened on Thursday to hear that she had died in the Digby General Hospital on Wednesday night of child birth. The funeral was held on Saturday morning at nine o'clock after Mass during which the choir sang favorite hymns "Jesus , Jesus Come To Me"and "Oh What Could My Jesus Do More" Rev. Fr. GRAHAM celebrated the Mass. The floral offerings were many and beautiful testifying to the esteem in which the deceased was held and of the sympathy in her untimely death. The pallbearers were Wm. AGATE S. MELANEY, G. MUISE, W. HERSEY, D. MELANSON, and M. ROBICHEAU. Mrs. WILKINS was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael MCKINNON and was in her 33rd. year. She is survived by her husband and parents and three sisters , Mrs. Jack CULBERT of Petersville NB , Miss Addie of Lynn MA and Mrs Clifford BEATON , Digby , also one brother Joseph of Bario , Alberta. She was married for only two weeks over a year and was buried in the family lot in St. Patrick's Church yard with her infant daughter in her arms.

CAPT JOSEPH RAWDING The death of Capt. Joseph RAWDING at Bear River on Tuesady Nov.27th. removed from that town , one of it oldest and best known citizens. Born at Clementsport , Annapolis County on July 2 1838 , "Grandpa Rawding"as he was familarly called by the many outside his immediate family who knew and loved him ,carried his ninety years lightly, until recently, and was always ready with a smile and a pleasant greeting for those he met. Living as he has for the past twelve years with his daughter Mrs W.D. CHUTE , at the Grand Hotel , he made hosts of friends among it guests and the genial Captain will be greatly missed by them. Capt. Rawding belonged to the era of the "Wooden Ships"and Iron Men and was one of those who captained ships in the days long past, when Nova Scotia's wooden trading fleet was at its best. The Rawding home was at Clementsport ,Mrs RAWDING [Nee Pheobe LECAIN ] dying there twenty -three years ago and here the large family of ten children were born , eight of whom survive , viz ,Capt. Elias RAWDING , Clementsport , Capt. Fletcher Calais Maine, Oscar , Rye Beach NH Thomas , Liverpool NS , Percy, Brooklyn, Queen's Co. NS , Mrs F. COTES , Melford Ma, Mrs Roy WELLS , Wakefield Mass., Mrs W. D. CHUTE , Bear River. There are also living fifteen grand children , five great grand children and one sister Mrs Obediah FLOYD of Clementsport. Capt. Rawding was a member of the United Baptist Church ,in politics a life long Liberal ,to the last taking great interest in all the political happenings of the day. The furneral service was held at his daughter's residence , Bear River Friday afternoon , conducted by Rev. E.J. BARASS , pastor of the United Baptist Church and interment was in the Clementsport cemetery beside his wife

HADDEN WESTCOTT There passed away late Friday evening at the Digby General Hospital, Hadden WESTCOTT, one of Waterford's most highly respected citizens,at the age of 61 years and 10 months.Deceased was born at Waterford ,a son of the late Handley and Sarah Ann WESTCOTT and resided there all his life,a farmer and weir builder having been a share holder in Griffon Cove Weir Co. for over 35 years.He was well known throughout Digby and Digby neck and was enjoying his health until a week before his death.He was haying at the time and after spending the forenoon in the field went to a neighbors and when returning home with a mower knife was hit by a car and rushed to the hospital where he never regained consciousness and after a week of suffering passed away. Deceased was a member of the First Digby Neck Baptist church ,where he will be greatly missed,having held several offices in his church work.The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. J.T. DIMOCK from the Baptist Church at Centerville with interment in the Baptist Cemetery at Centerville. He is survived by his wife Annie and eight children living;his eldest daughter Lena having predeceased him by only six weeks and three days. ' Florence wife of Kenneth MERRITT of Mink Cove , Daisy , Imelda, and Ada at home ;Wilfred and Sidney at home ,Leigh in Chicago and Aubrey at home. One sister and two brothers also survive ; Mrs Ina HUNT ; Centerville, Charles Centerville and Edward in Vancouver ;also three grandchildren.

Sudden death calls Captain John ROOP, master of Canadian Pathfinder... served From Boyhood in Sail and Stream, Rose to Command Finest Freighters in C.G.M.M.S. was German War Prisoner. The town people of Bear River and the many friends of Capt. J.E. Roop through the province were greatly shocked by the news of his sudden death in Halifax on Tuesday evening, April 16, after only three hours illness. Death resulting from a severe attack of Angina Pectoris. The late Capt. ROOP was born at Clementsport, AnnaCo. The son of Joseph ROOP April 8,1868 and had just passed his sixty fifth birthday. When only eighteen years old, he began the "sea-faring" training that developed him into the remarkably capable and successful first officer of many fine clipper ships in the days of sailing craft,and later when "steam" supplanted "sail" he became commanderof a number of English steamers. At the outbreak of the "Great War" Capt. Roop was commander of the English S.S. Frankdale which was seized at Hamburg Germany. And the Captain was intered at Ruhleber prison camp near Brussels, not being released until the signing of the Armistice, when he rejoined his family at his home in Bear River. A few months after his home coming Capt. ROOP developed a severe case of that rare disease, Sleeping sickness, and after a long period of convaleesense, resumed his former occupation: acting successively as Commander of the C.G.M.M. ships Canadian Volunteer, Explorer, Planter, Britisher, Conqueror. And latterly Canadian Pathfinder, which was ready to sail for South American ports at the time of his death. The late Capt. ROOP is survived by his wife ( nee Lottie HAYNES ),a daughter Joyce Boston Mass. , a son Dr. Lionel ROOP, Kingston,Ont., Three sisters, Mrs. Bernard I. HARRIS (Ida May ROOP )Seattle wash.;Miss Josephine ROOP, Lynn Mass. ; Mrs. Reagh BURNS, Clementsport, and one brother, Rev. Fred ROOP of Woltville, N.S. A Step-Mother Mrs. Joseph ROOP, and A Step Brother Mr. A.E.H. CHESLEY Kentville N.S. The Largely attended funeral service was held on friday afternoon at the Roop residence, Bear River. Conducted by the Keith Lodge No.15 A.F. & A.M. of which the late Capt. ROOP was a member, the officiating clergyman being Rev. A.W.L. SMITH, Rector of St. Clement Parish assisted by Rev. E.J. BARRASS of the Bear River United Baptist Church. And Interment was in the cemetery of Clementsport A large number of out- of-town prominent people were present at the funeral. the C.G.M.M. being represented by Capt. RATHE of the S.S. Lady Rodney.

J.FRANK HANKINSON In the passing of J. Frank HANKINSON at Weymouth , last week the county of Digby lost one of its best known and most highly respected residents. The deceased who was 71 years of age , had been in failing health for several years.Since the death of his wife, he had resided with his son Fred O. HANKINSON. He was well known figure in the business life of the community and for many years had been engaged in trucking. In religion he was a Baptist and was a member of theI.O.O.F. and I.O.O.F Lodges. He is survived by three sons , Fred O., George O. and Elijah F. all of Weymouth and one daughter , Mrs D. H. MCLEAN of Hopewell, and one sister in Providence R.I. . the funeral was held from the Riverside Baptist Church with Rev. M. B. WHITMAN pastor , officating.

John E. HENSHAW ,passed away August 14th , at his home in Deep Brook. The deceased lived to the good old age of eighty-nine years and nine months. He enjoyed the best of health until the three weeks of his illness.His wife , who was Jemina CHUTE , preceased him five years ago. He leaves to mourn their loss thirteen living children , namely Herbert A. HENSHAW , New York, Joseph E. HENSHAW, Deep Brook, Warren H. HENSHAW, Hartland VT. Mrs Edward SPINNER, Windsor VT, Fred L. HENSHAW Windsor VT,Miss Jennie HENSHAW , Plymouth NH, Mrs Chas. O. HUFF, Weatherfield , Conn. Mrs John WARE , Reading Penn. Frank P. HENSHAW, Salem Mass, Bickford J. HEMSHAW , Salem Mass. , Wallace L. HENSHAW, Salem Mass., Mrs Carey MORGAN , Landsdowne NS and Mrs Belle L. BURRELL , who took all the care of her aged father until the end. He also leaves twenty-six grand children , one of which, Miss Wanetta BURRELL , was with him when he passed away. There are also thirteen great grand children.
