Digby Courier 1899 May 5 Barton News Mrs WC MORTON passed away peacefully on Sunday morning last after a very short illness. She was seventy years of age She leaves a sorrowing husband , three daughters , Mrs John LAMBERTSON of this place , Mrs COATES of Port Maitland and Miss Jessie Morton of Malden MA and one son Mr. Charles MORTON of Malden MA who came home to attend the funeral . Mrs Foot of Weymouth who is a step daughter was also present. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community

1900? Forman Boudreau

DROWNING ACCIDENT While engaged in net fishing near Surette's Island on Thursday, Forman BOUDREAU undressed and jumped into the water to secure a dory which had gone adrift and was drowned. He was the son of Leon BOUDREAU of Meteghan and was 24 yrs old. Up to Saturday night the body had not been recovered. There was a very strong tide when the accident occured.

Joseph Barome LEBLANC, 77, of Yarmouth, died at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital Tuesday. Born in Wedgeport, he was the son of the late Severin and Elizabeth (POTHIER) LEBLANC. Surviving are four daughters, Rose Anne (Mrs. John FOURNIER), Saulnierville; Beulah (Mrs. Emile ROBICHAUD), Meteghan; Antoinette (Mrs. Bernard MUISE), Montreal; and Corinne, at home; three sons, Levi, Yarmouth's chief of police; Everitte, Blacks Harbor, N.B.; Israel, Regina; two brothers, Pius, Wedgeport and Charles of Plymouth. The body is at Huskilson's Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at St. Ambrose Cathedral today at 9 a.m., Rev. Gerald LeBlanc officiating. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. -no date

1900? Joseph LeBlanc

The death of Joseph LEBLANC, of Concession, Digby County, took place at the Yarmouth Hospital on Friday evening. The deceased had been a patient at that institution for one week and on Monday last underwent a severe operation. Mr. LEBLANC was 32 years of age and is survived by his parents, also several sisters and brothers. The remains were taken to his home immediately following his death.

Digby Courier Friday ,Feb. 9, 1900 In the death of Mrs Maria EVERETT , Digby loses one of its oldest residents . Her demise as noted in another column occurred on Friday last . The Funeral took place on sunday. Many friends were in attendence . The religious services both at the house and the grave were conducted by Rev. B.H. Thomas . Interment was in Barton. At Digby Feb. 2 , Mrs Maria EVERETT , relict of the late George EVERETT , age 87 years.

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth MAILLET of St. Alphonse passed away in Mavilette on Saturday, February 20, at the age of 85. She was the daughter of the late Francois and Leonice (MUISE) CLAIRMONT of Comeau's Hill. Remains rested at Deveau's Funeral Home pending funeral services which were held at 4 p.m. On February 23, in St. Alphonse with Fr. Edward THERIAULT officiating. Huskilson's Funeral directors were in charge of the interment. Surviving are: three sons, Eddie, Chatham, Mass.; Ernest, Lr. Wedgeport; Clayton, Saugus, Mass; six daughters, Genevieve,(Mrs. Ira DEVEAU) Mavilette; Angele (Mrs. Frank FITZGERALD) Comeau's Hill; Benita(?) (Mrs. Donald PORTER) Hamilton, Ont.;Emily (Mrs. John MELANSON) Rocksbury, Mass.; Josephine (Mrs. Charles LEBLANC) Cape Ball, N.B.; Mary (Mrs. Edgar LOMBARD), Chelsea, Mass.; one sister, Leonice (Mrs. Isaac LOMBARD) St. Alphonse; one brother, John CLEMENTS, Yarmouth, and 37 grandchildren.

1900 Mr. I.W. Oliver

DEATH AT LOWER GRANVILLE Mr. I.W. OLIVER died at his home in Lower Granville on Sat. last of paralysis aged 70 years. The deceased was a member of the Espicopal Church and a much respected citizen in that communtiy . Three daughters and one son and a large number of relatives are left to mourn their loss. Mr. M. L. OLIVER of this town is a brother of the deceased and was at the funeral which took place on Monday . The remains were interred at Stoney Beach., Lower Granville

1900 Friday, March 19 Digby Courier North Range News LEWIS COOK MR. Lewis COOK an aged and respected citizen ,passed peacefully away at his home on Monday morning about 5 o'clock. He visited his son on Sunday and retired Sunday evening in his usual health. The cause of his death was heart failure. He leaves to mourn their loss a loving wife ,three sons and three daughters besides a large circle of relatives and friends. The Courier extends its deepest sympathy to the bereaved ones.

1900 Friday, March 19 Digby Courier Lower Granville news The remains of John P. Milbury were brought from Allston MA on Wednesday and interred at Stoney Beach. Mr. Milbury resided here until about two years ago when he went to Allston MA to reside with his adopted daughter , Mrs W. B. Long. His wife died about three years ago. He was an obliging neighbour and very highly respected by a large circle of friends.

DEATH OF CAPT. CLARKE We have to report this week the death of an aged citizen who will be missed from our streets, post office and other public places more than any whose death we have reported for many years.We refer to Capt. John George CLARKE who died at Mr. J.A. VANTASSEL'S, Water Street , Friday morning last. The deceased had been ill for some time but not seriously until a few days previous to his death. Capt. CLARKE was born in the North of Ireland in 1824 and had there fore reached the advanced age of 76 years. While a young man he commanded vessels between continental ports and Australia. Later he came to Americaa nd for a number of years sailed on the Great Lakes. About sixteen years ago he came to Nova Scotia from London Ont. accompanied by his wife and daughter,and grand children. His wife and daughter Mrs FEATHERSTONHAUGH , have since died and the grand children are now living with relatives in London Ont. Capt. CLARKE since his retirement from the sea, has resided at Digby and for the past four years has boarded with Mr. J. A. VANTASSEL. The deceased was very loyal to Great Britian,a constant reader and took a great interest in the present war. He was a Conservative in politics and a memberof the Orange Order. Previous to his death he willed all his personal and real estate property to Mr. J.A. VANTASSEL. His income was from a pension which probably ceased at his death. The funeral which was largely attended,took place on Sunday afternoon and the remains were interred in the Episcopal cemetery. The services were conducted by Revs. H. A. HARLEY and W. S. COVERT.

Anne du Ruisseau; elle etait grand-mere de quinze enfants et arriere grand'mere de huit. Les funerailles eurent lieu le 17 septembre a l'eglise du Sacre Coeur de Saulnierville. Le Rev. Pere Felix Michaud, cure, officiait et les porteurs etaient Emile BABIN, James PENNEY, Leo COMEAU, Jacob LEBLANC; neveux. Emile LEBLANC, petit-neveu, et Ernest PENNEY, gendre.

1900? Elizabeth Meuse

Mrs. Elizabeth MEUSE, of 70 Cummings St., Hamilton, Mass., the town's oldest resident, died recently. She was 95 years old. She was the wife of the late Frank J. MEUSE. She lived at the Cummings Street address for 40 years. Born in Lake Doucet, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of Casimir DOUCET and Marie FRONTAIN. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Marion DIXON of Hamilton, a granddaughter, Mrs. Pasquale ZONA of Woburn, Mass., and four great grandchildren. Services were held September 25 at the Church of St. Paul of Hamilton and Wenham. Burial was in Hamilton cemetery.

1901 Mrs Maria Oakes

DEATH AT WEYMOUTH Mrs Maria , wife of Henry OAKES, Esq. of Weymouth died at her home last Monday morning at 11:30 aged 48 years. Mrs OAKES had been ill but a short time. Pneumonia was the cause of her death. A husband and ten children survive her , six of whom reside in the United States.All were present at her funeral , which took place yesterday afternoon.The services were conducted by Rev. G.D. HARRIS , rector of St. Thomas church , Weymouth. The Courier extends sympathy to the large circle of relatives and friends who are left to mourn their loss.

1901 Mina Denton

Sudden Death at Little River Our Llittle River correspondent writes; The friends and neighbours of Miss Mina DENTON were painfully shocked om Thursday evening to hear of her death. , she had been ill with lagrippe for about a forenight , but arose on Thursday morning in the best of spirits and in as apparent good health as she had been for two weeks . Shortly after four o'clock in the afternoon she was taken suddenly ill , a physican and some lady friends were summoned but nothing for her relief could be done. She passed away about one half hour after the attack, aged 18 years. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs Chipman DENTON . The funeral took place on Sunday , Service was conducted by the Rev. Dr. MORSE of Sandy Cove . The Funeral was largely attended . she leaves a father , mother, five sisters , five brothers and many friends to mourn their loss , to whom is extended the sympathy of the entire community. it is a warning to us all that while we are in the midst of life, we are in death.

1901 Melbourne HATT

' The death of Melbourne HATT, son of the late Stephen HATT, occured at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth CHUTE on the 21st. He was 28 years of age and death was due to consumption. A year and a half ago he went to the U. S. where he worked as electric car conductor and contracted a cold which developed into the disease which caused his death. He returned here last spring and was given a home by Mrs. CHUTE, for whom he had worked as a boy. He was a member of the Baptist Church and leaves two sisters, Mrs. Geo. HENSHAW and Miss Alva HATT. The funeral takes place today.'

1901 Lizzie Maud Gilliland

A Rossway correspondent writes, On Sunday last we conveyed to her last resting place the remains of Lizzie Maud second daughter of Caleb GILLILAND. who passed peacefully into rest Nov. 1st.aged sixteen years. For several months past she had been suffering from the dread disease , consumption.Realizing the end was to be soon , she calmly submitted to her Master's will. The last week of her life was spent , although enduring great agony, in giving counsel to her friends and speaking and singing of the beautiful home Jesus had prepared for her. Her last words were "Clasp your hand in mine , mother and sing as I sink to rest. Rev. Dr. J. C. Morse conducted the services and preached from the text at her request "Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest

1901 John HANKINSON

The very sudden death of Mr. John HANKINSON, one of Weymouth�s oldest and respected residents, occurred at his home on Wednesday last, aged 92 years. He had been in ill health for some time, but up to the day of his death, he had done the chores around the homestead. A sister, Miss Caroline, and two brothers, William and George, survive him. The funeral will probably take place today. The Echo extends its sympathy to the bereaved ones.

1902 Mrs Elizabeth Goldsmith

DEATH OF MRS GOLDSMITH Mrs Elizabeth M, wife of Mr. B.M. GOLDSMITH passed away at her home in Acaciaville last Friday evening at 9:45 aged 53 after a lingering illness of fifteen years.She leaves a sorrowing husband and one son , the latter being Mr. Charles R. of Bellisle , Annapolis County. The deceased is also survived by a mother and two sisters , Mrs J. W. SHANNON and Mrs M. H. LECAIN of Boston. A service was held at her late home , Tuesday morning , conducted by Rev. H.A. HARLEY of Digby after which the remains were conveyed to Annapolis by train. A funeral service was held at Perotte Settlement Annapolis County Tuesday afternoon conducted by Rev. Mr. LOCKWOOD of Clementsport, the remains being interred in the Episcopal burying ground. The courier extends its sympathy to the large circle of relatives and friends who are left to mourn their loss.

1902 Elkanah Bell

SUDDEN DEATH AT WEYMOUTH The sudden death of Mr. Elkanah BELL occured at Weymouth last Saturday morning at 5:30.His death was caused by pneumonia and pleurisy. The deceased was well known in this part of the county ,having carried on a tonsorial business at Weymouth since 1893. He was born at Hill Grove 44 years ago and leaves a widow [daughter of Capt. Daniel SMALLIE of this town]and seven children-four sons and three daughters.The remains were brought to Digby Saturday. The funeral which was largely attended was held Monday, the remains being interred in the Hill Grove cemetery.The services being conducted by Rev. J. W. BANCROFT , of Barton assisted by Rev. H. A. DEVOE of Digby . The courier extends its deepest sympathy to the bereaved ones.
