OBIT - Miss LEAH MAY SMITH
Pugwash, Jan 8, 1919
The death of Miss LEAH MAY SMITH, age 16 years, daughter of WILLIAM & LOUIE CUNNINGHAM SMITH, occurred at the home of her parents, King St., on Saturday morning, 4th inst. The deceased was taken sick on Dec 24th with influenza, which rapidly developed into pneumonia. On Thursday the 2nd, encouraging symptoms were noticed and the family and friends hoped that LEAH would be spared to them. In the early hours of Saturday morning heart failure set in and at 7 o'clock surrounded by those she loved, her bright spirit winged itself to God.
Besides her mother and father she is survived by one sister, HARRIETT and 6 brothers, ROLAND, ALONZO, HENRY, LEWIS, AINSLEY and DONALD.
The funeral was held on Sunday at 2 PM. A beautiful and very touching service was held at the home, Rev. A. LUND, Pastor of the Methodist Church officiating. The hymns, "Shall We Gather at the River," Safe in the Arms of Jesus," and "Nearer My God to Three," were sung.
Mr. LUND gave a very comforting address from 2nd Samuel 12:32, "I SHALL GO TO HIM BUT HE SHALL NOT RETURN TO ME."
Interment was made in the Pugwash Cemetery.FRED R. DAKIN of Pugwash has been appointed a Justice of the Peace in and for the County of Cumberland.
Mrs. (Private) LLEWELLYN RUSHTON of Cabri, Sask., formerly Miss EVA HUNTER of Tidnish, has been the guest of Mr. & Mrs. FREEMAN ADSHADE, returning this week to Kronau, Sask, where she will teach school.
Cpl. FORREST TREEN, son of Mr. & Mrs. JOSEPH TREEN of Hansford, recently returned to his home in Winnipeg, being wounded in action in France over a year ago, a shot going through his chest. He was bravely leading platoon when he was struck down. At present he is in a hospital in Winnipeg and although his case is critical it is hoped that he will have a complete recovery.

At the Baptist Parsonage, by Rev. C.W. ROSE on Dec 24th, 1918, HOWARD AVARD JOHNSON of Little RIver and Miss MARGARET JESSIE FORBES of Oxford.
