OBIT -
It is our sad duty to chronicle the death of Mrs. McDONALD, mother of Mr. CHAS. H. CROKE on Tuesday morning at 9:30, age 68 years the 2nd of April. The deceased had been sick for a considerable length of time of cancer of the stomach, which finally claimed its victim.
Born at River Philip, NS the deceased came to the country in 1904 and has since resided in Mission City. She leaves to morn her loss, Mr. CHARLES H. CROKE of this town, a sister, Mrs. VIRGIA, Clarksbury, West Virginia & a brother Rev. W.E. VICKERY of Amherst.
The funeral took place today at the Hatzic cemetery, Rev. J. THORBURN CONN and the pallbearers were:

Farewell Sermon
Rev. J. HOWSE preached his farewell sermon Sunday evening May 10th in the Pentecostal Church of the Nazarene here. He goes to his next pastorate at Cundy's Harbour, Maine.

A sad accident occurred near Wallace Bridge Station on May 2nd on the Wallace River, when 16 year old JOHN MANNING heroically gave up his life to save that of his cousin WILLIAM MANNING, 11 years old. The body of the brave lad was recovered.

At Oxford on May 6th to Dr. J.R. & Mrs. GILROY, a daughter.
At Pugwash Rectory, May 10th to Rev. J.P. & Mrs. HOGAN, a son.


OBIT - RUFUS T. OXLEY
GEORGE S. OXLEY of this town received a telegram on Friday last conveying the sad news that his younger brother RUFUS had died in Calgary, that morning after a short illness of pneumonia. About 6 years ago the deceased disposed of the homestead at River Philip and went to the Canadian West where he engaged in different enterprises. To be thus strickened down at the early age of 28 years is sad indeed. His other brother GARNET T. OXLEY who is also in business in Calgary, left with the remains on Saturday. He expect to arrive in Maccan today. The body will come down to Oxford Jct on the No. 2 train Friday afternoon and the funeral service will be held at the grave, being conducted by the Rev. Mr. McNEILL. The deceased was a member of the Oxford Lodge, Knights of Pythias, who will provide the pall bearers and also conduct their buriel service at the grave. The near relatives are his mother, Mrs. J. H. HARRISON, Maccan, sisters, Mrs. H.T. SMITH, Parrsboro and Miss GERTRUCE, Principal of schools Canso and the 2 brothers mentioned.

OBIT - ALEX REID, Jr.
After a lingering illness, ALEX REID, son of Mr. & Mrs. J.C. REID, died at his home on Sunday morning. He became worse on Saturday afternoon, but rallied a little, but passed away as stated without suffering. He was 29 years of age. A few years ago he married Miss MAUD McLEOD of Pugwash, who with a baby girl survive.
Besides his father, he leaves brothers and sisters as follows:
WILLIAM - Victoria, B.C.
THOMAS - New Glasgow, N.S.
FRANK - Oxford, N.S.
Mrs. C.E. WOOD - Pictou, N.S.
AGNES, ORCESA, VIDA & JESSIE - at home.
The funeral service was held at his late residence on Tuesday at 12:30, Rev. Mr. MITCHELL being in charge. The hymn "Abide With Me", was sung an afterwards Messrs. GEORGE McLELLAN, L. BRANNON, CLEVELAND LESLIE & R.H. SCOTT rendered in good voice "Jesus, Lover of My Soul". The floral offerings were beautiful, including:

At the conclusion of the service the procession proceeded to Pine Grove cemetery, where interment took place. The pall bearers were:

Among the sympathizing relatives and friends present were Messrs MICHAEL FITZPATRICK of Port Elgin, N.B. C.E. WOOD and R.H. POPE of Pictou Co, NS.

Mrs. JAMES McPHIE left on Wednesday for St. John, where he will join the L.C.R. bridge construction workers and have charge of the cement mixer.

Mr. & Mrs. WILLARD BAIRD attended the funeral of their nephew, ALEX REID of Oxford.

WENTWORTH
Mrs. W. JOHNSON & Mrs. JARDINE of Medicine Hat, Alberta are visiting with Mr.& Mrs. J.D. SWAN.

Rev. HENRY ALFRED PORTER, D.D. who is well remembered as pastor at Kentville, N.S. is now pastor at Dallas, Texas.
