A Sad Accident
A lamentable affair occurred at Greenfield in this county on Sunday last, when a man named ALONZO SCHOFIELD accidentally shot and instantly killed his wife. Mrs. SCHOFIELD asked her husband to shoot a crow, which had alighted in the yard in order that she might have the wings. Mr. SCHOFIELD complied with her request and after shooting the crow re-loaded the gun and was putting it away when in some way it was discharged and Mrs. SCHOFIELD was instantly filled……..Wolfville Acadian.

OBIT - Mrs. EPHRAIM MURRAY
Pugwash, May 3rd

After a linger from cancer, Mrs. CLARA DELIA RICHESON, relict of the late EPHRAIM MURRAY passed to her eternal rest on Wednesday, 30th ult.

The deceased was a native of Midgic, NB and at the time of her death was in the 71st year of her age. One sister, Mrs. STEWART ESTABROOKS and 3 brothers,

RICHESON of Moncton and
HEBERT of Amherst, survive her.

The late Mrs. MURRAY was twice married, her first husband was Mr. EDWARD HICKS, from this union there was one daughter, LIZZIE, wife of Wm. LOWSE, Sackville.

The death of Mr. HICKS occurred in 1899 and 2 years later the widow married Mr. EPHRAIN MURRAY who predeceased her a little over a year ago.

The funeral was held on Friday, May 2nd, Rev. A. LUND officiating. The hymns, “Lead Kindly Light,””Asleep in Jesus,” and “Abide with Me”, were sung.

Interment was in the Pugwash Cemetery. A. HOLLIS was funeral director and the pall bearers were A.R.D. MITCHELL, PINEO WILSON, W.L. FRASER and R. CHAPMAN.

OBIT - Mrs. M. J. LOWTHER
There passed peacefully at her home at East Leicester, April 26th at noon, Mrs. MARY JANE LOWTHER, aged 80 years and 9 days. She is survived by 2 daughters and 2 sons.

The daughters are:
Mrs. GEORGE CURRIER of Haverhill, Mass, who very tenderly cared for her mother through the past 4 months of her illness and death; Mrs. CARROTT WOOD of Maccan, ALBERT of West Leicester and JAMES at home.

The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Mr. FREESTONE of Maccan in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends who met to pay their last tribute to one so highly respected by all who knew her. A large profusion of flowers adorned the casket, carefully laid there by her many mourning friends.

The pall-bearers were Messrs. T.L. BLAIR, G.D. PARSONS, A.H. HOLLIS, C.B. HAYWARD.

The remains were laid in the cemetery opposite her old home. The hymns sung were, “Rock of Ages,” “Nearer My God to Thee,” and “Meet Me There”. The family have the sincere sympathy of the community.

OBIT - Mr. GEORGE REID
Pugwash, May 1st

In the death of Mr. GEORGE REID, which occurred here in the early hours of Monday morning after a long illness from heart trouble another of the old landmarks has been removed. The late Mr. REID was a son of the late DAVID and CATHERINE REID and at the time of his death was in the 77th year of his age.

He is survived by 3 sisters,
ELIZABETH, widow of the late HAZEN CARTER
ANNIE, wife of J. RIGGANY, Brooklyn, New York and MARGARET, wife of HEBERT PHINNEY of Arlington, Mass and 4 brothers HARRY, WILLIAM & JOHN of Pugwash and CHARLIE of Milton, Mass.

Mr. REID was twice married. His first wife, who was Miss MARGARET CLARKE of Wallace, died in May 1898. His second marriage took place Dec 1900 to Miss ANNA GILLIS, who survives him.

The funeral was held from his late residence at 2 o’clock on Tuesday the 29th inst. Rev. J.R. MILLAR, assisted by Rev. A. LUND and Rev. M.B. WHITMAN conducted the closing services. The hymns sung were, “The Lord’s My Shepherd,” “Rock of Ages,” and “Nearer My God to Thee”. At the conclusion of the service the remains were conveyed to the Pugwash Cemetery and laid to rest. Mr. D.F. CLIFT was Funeral Director and the pall bearers were Messrs. A.R.D. MITCHELL, D.J. MITCHELL, A. KENNEDY and GEORGE W. STEWART.

The late Mr. REID was born and spent his entire life in Pugwash. He was a kind and affectionate husband and a good neighbor. The large number of citizens who followed his remains to their last resting place bore silent testimony to the esteem in which he was held in the community.

Mrs. BRIDGET FRASER and daughters wish to thank the many friends and especially the Elders and Session of St. James Presbyterian Church for the sympathy and kindness extended to them during their recent bereavement.

ANGUS E. MATHESON of Lower Five Islands is in town delivering enlarged pictures. Mr. Matheson informs the Journal that he has sold his property at Five Islands and we gave him a cordial invitation to remove with Mrs. MATHESON to Oxford.

At Cottage Hospital, Springhill, on April 18th, to Mr. & Mr. L.I KNIGHT, a son - RUSSELL CARMAN.

At Pictou, on April 26th, to Mr. & Mrs. HENRY SILVIA, a son.

DIED
At Springhill on April 26th, Mr. THOMAS HALE.
