On the Chapman Settlement Road near the Edgar Smith sawmill on September 3, Lyall CHAPPELL, 18 and Chester DOYLE, 37, mill workers of Tidnish, were instantly killed when the car in which they were passengers, left the road and turned over several times. Four other occupants of the car received slight injuries.

A large citizens' meeting at the I.O.O.F. Hall, Pugwash, was held on September 5 to honor Millard TRENHOLM for his bravery in rescuing a sailor from Halifax Harbour on January 18. A medal from the Royal Humane Canadian Association was presented to Mr. Trenholm.
