File Structure Notes Here

The following files have been provided courtesy of Mr. Don Lewis of Ottawa, Ontario who did the original data entry and kindly gave permission for the material to be added to the Cumberland County GenWeb Page. I would also like to acknowledge the assistance of Mr. Arthur Owen, who converted the files to a usable format and Mr. Leland Harvie, who made available web server space to mount the files.

Technical Notes

The census and vital statistics files are in comma delimited text format (CSV). This format should be readable by most every database and spreadsheet package available (or even a bare text editor). I personally use Microsoft Works but dBase and Access work equally well. Because of their large size, the files have been compressed with PKZip. Unfortunately, I am NOT able to answer technical questions about using these files with your particular software.

A non time limited version of Winzip is available for download to open the zip archives, please consult the winzip help files regarding its use.

Also, because of their large size, I am NOT able to provide copies via e-mail to persons unable to download the files from the web page.

Other Thoughts

Researchers are warned that while Mr. Lewis was careful in making these transcriptions, he did not re-check them afterwards. Therefore they should be considered more on an index to the records than a replacement for the originals.

The volunteer maintainers of this site are not able to answer specific questions about information related to the individuals and families documented.
