Nova Scotia Capitation and Assessment Tax Rolls (1791-1795)
I believe that the transcriber was NOT familiar with the early names of the
Cumberland County area since there are many questionable name transcriptions.
For example:
Remshez.  I have seen Ramshag, Remshag, Remsheg but never Remshez.
Jeremiah MARRIT = MERRIT. There are land grants for MERRIT in Cumberland
County but I have not come across a MARRIT.
John BOISLAND = BOISBAND. same as above
Thomas AUSTIN= Thomas HUSTIS. Comparing H's and A's on other names in
this document makes me believe this is an H not an A. Thomas Austin only
came to area in early 1800's. There is a history of Hustis for this area
prior to 1791.

 I am sure there are incorrect entries in the above INDEX since I DO NOT have  in depth
knowledge of all these early families. However I feel confident in
most of the entries  since I cross checked the spelling against land grants, grant maps and
other writing about early Cumberland County.
In all cases you would do best to refer to the original microfilm of the Poll Tax.
