Stores & Buildings on right hand side of street starting from bottom of Main St. 1.) Anderson Post office - later ice cream parlour - then Drugstore & medical clinic 2.) Dan Rogers dry goods store - three stories - destroyed by fire - became Anderson Theatre this is the original site of Anderson's skating rink circular with round band stand in center 3.) Peter Slades - became hatshop - then Cameron's Electric 4.) Restaurant - became Selkirk Variety Store 5.) Simond Frasers Book Store & Fancy cooking - became empty lot (billboard) 6.) Browns undertaking 7.) Hall building - bakery - became empty lot - Acadia Drug Store moved down to edge of this lot 8.) Drug Store - Dr. Sutherland from Pictou - became Withrows drug store. Dr. Cove owned property on lot next to a store on corner of Main & Church streets. Cove Drug Store (Acadia Drug Store) opened 1883. Dr. Cove lived in the same building. John Wilson opened store on corner Church & Main 1887 - Wilson's expanded 1890 - with this expansion Acadia Drug Store bldng moved down Main St to edge of lot - then taken over by Dr. Sutherland (Bertha Campbell) 9.) Wilsons Clothing - shoes - groceries - first store built on this corner by Daniel McLeod 1873 10.) Post Office - built 1900 - site of Edward Fisher Hall built 1870's - 1886 Gilmour block built Newspaper Springhill Independent in building when destroyed by 1895 fire 11.) Leadbeater Bldg - then Royal Bank 1909 - then HS Terris General Insurance 12.) Fraser Bldg. 13.) Sandy Wilson's Store (Mayor for several Yrs) 14.) Sprague Shoe Store-became Agnew Surpass 15.) Murray Block- several stores- Masonic Lodge overhead- this is original site of Townsend House. 16.) Hall Block-several stores. Formerly Hall Store. Was Union Store financed by men (employees)- called "Eldorado". 17.) Pioneer Store and Hall- after formation of PWA store was changed into a hall- became Miners Hall. 18.) Mills Store- corner of Chapel & Main Streets- one of first stores built in Springhill. Daniel McLeod built first store on site of Geo. Hopkins Meat Market in 1872. Store was built on corner of Townsend property. In 1873 he built a larger store on what became the Wilson Corner. John Wilson Sr. eventually bought all Townsend property (Bertha Scott).
