Anderson, Wendell 85, died Aug 15,2005 in Albuquerque, NM. A Prolific poet, he was a Taos resident in the 1950's and co-author of Patrocinio Barela, A Taos Wood Carver. A widely read student of western history. He wrote many poems on that subject and more recently about his childhood in an immigrant Swedish family in Oregon. A group of his lyrical poems will appear in the Taos Historical Society's forthcoming history book of Taos, in Taos he worked on the book mobile, clearing the first ski run and for the forest service. He is survived by a son, a niece and nephew and many devoted friends. Taos News 8-18-2005.
Archuleta, Floyd Jr. 22, of Des Montes, NM passed away unexpectedly on July 20, 2011. He is preceded in death by grandparents, Arsenio and Carmen Romo and uncle Anthony Romo. He is survived by his parents, Floyd and Violetta Archuleta, sisters, Erika Archuleta and Elizabeth Burnam (Kollin), nephews, Karter and Koltin, girlfriend, Samantha Salazar, grandparents, Jose and Marina Archuleta, uncles and aunts, Arthur Romo (Mabel), Cleo Vargas, Yvonne Torres, Loretta Gonzales, Martha Woodwards, Bobby Romo Sr. (Liz), Tommy Romo (Cristina) Ronnie Romo (Laura), Danny Romo, Bernadette Romo DeNegron (Rick) David Romo (Paula), Joe Archuleta (Mary), Joann Lucero (Ernest), Lloyd Archuleta (Dolores), Dean Archuleta (Angela), Louella Nichols (Gerald). And many cousins, relatives and friends. Memorial service was held July 25, 2011 at the family residence in Des Montes. Archuleta, Jose Funeral service were held last Friday at Chamisal, NM for Jose Archuleta, 53, killed November 19th at Penasco, NM. Father Guadalupe Rivera Officiated and burial was in the Chamisal Cemetery, by the Garcia Funeral home. Surviving are 6 sons, Eli Archuleta, Bingham, Ut., Jose J. Archuleta, Arturo, Louis. Teddy and Jerry Archuleta, all of Chamisal, NM; 3 daughters, Mrs. Rajos Herrera, Miss Kate Archuleta and Miss Shirley Archuleta, all of Chamisal, NM. Pallbearers were Jose Archuleta, Pat Archuleta, Ruben Archuleta, Rubio Serrano, Manuel Rodriguez and Juan B. Pacheco. Eulogy was given by Manuel Rodriguez. Arellano, Eugenio 87 died at his Chamisal, NM home, April 29,1965. Funeral services were held at the Chamisal Presbyterian Church, April 30, with the Rev. Epifano Romero officiating. Burial was in the Chamisal Presbyterian Cemetery. Survivors includes Son, Nelson, Salomon, Eugenio and Severo Arellano of Chamisal; Daughters, Mrs. Benita Cruz, Chamisal; Mrs. Gertrudes Medina, Butte, Mont.; Mrs. Refugio Medina, Ogden, Ut, Mrs. Susie Edina, Central, NM; Brothers, Agustino and Ernestino Arellano, Chamisal; Sisters, Mrs. Josefa Rodriguez and Mrs. Sorida Pacheco of Chamisal. Pallbearers were Eugenio Arellano, Jr., Filadelfio Sandoval, Ignacio Cruz, Salomon Arellano, Fred Medina and Gilbert Silva. The Eulogist was Reynaldo Sandoval. Taos News 6 May 1965
Arguello, Tiburcio 81, of Llano, NM passed away August 16,1972. He was born in 1891. He is survived by his wife, Tonita Arguello of Llano; 4 sons, Malaquias Arguello of Rocksprings, Wyo., Lucries Arguello of Brighton, Co., Clarence Arguello of Green River, Wyo., and Jose D. Arguello of Helper, Utah. Rosary services were held August 17, at Garcia St. Martin's Chapen and August 18 at the Llano Chapel. Funeral service and burial took place at Llano, NM Father
Baca, Marianita G. 88, of Placitas in Vadito, NM, passed away Aug 17,1972. She was born in 1883. Survivors include a son Ben Vasquez of Vadito, 2 daughters, Mary Vasquez and Iva Vasquez, also of Vadito, NM, a grandson Eufelio Vasquez of Vadito and a brother, Damian Gonzales of Carlsbad, Calif. Rosary service was held August 18, in Placitas. Funeral service were held in Placitas, NM on August 19. Father Robert Podvin officiated. Pallbearers were: Adan Gonzales, Ben Gonzales, Ernesto Sandoval, Frank Casados, David Sandoval and Gregorio Chacon. Eulogy was said by Walter Romero.

Barela, Requilda 74, Funeral service were held Tuesday morning at the Cerro Catholic Church for Mrs. Requilda Barela, who died Sunday evening at the Cerro, NM home. Father Gerard Litjens officiated and burial was at the Cerro Cemetery. El Crepusculo Nov 7, 1957.
Brandenburg, Dorothy Berninghaus 1902-2005, Dorothy Brandenburg passed away August 17,2005 at the age of 103. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Emilia Berninghaus, daughter Marcia Brandenburg, daughter Marcia Brandenburg, husband Jack Brandenburg and brother Charles Berninghaus. Survivors include daughter Barbara Brenner and husband John, granddaughters Marcia Winter and husband Fred, Anne Brenner and great grandsons Wyatt and Peter Winter. Dorothy was born July 8, 1902 in St. Louis, Mo. She received her bachelors degree in education from Washington University and spent every summer in Taos from 1908 on. She married Jack Brandenburg in 1927 and they became permanent residents in Taos in 1931. She was the last of the children of the Taos Society of Artists, of which her father was a founding member. Dorothy was always involved in civic affairs. She served as state president of the PTA in 1948-50 and a member of the board of Managers of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers, she was on the board of Regents of the University of New Mexico in the 1960's. Board member of First State Bank for many years. A member of First Presbyterian Church as well as serving on the Santa Fe Opera board, the Harwood Foundation, the Red Cross and chaired the building committee for the Taos Art Association's new auditorium in 1971-2. Burch, Paul Alvin 46, Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the First Baptist Church here (Taos, NM) for Paul Alvin Burch, former Taoseno and World War II Veteran who was killed on November 12th at Santa Fe, NM. The Rev. Harry T. Martin officiated and burial was made in Sierra Vista Cemetery (Taos, NM) by the Hanlon Funeral Home. A resident of the Taos Area for most of his life, he was the son of Alvin Burch, for many years a prominent local merchant and businessman. Paul Alvin Burch who was 46, was murdered at an all night service station in Santa Fe which he had been arranging to purchase. Some $ 500.00 in cash and checks was taken from the business establishment after Burch was stabbed 13 times and left in the station grease rack. Santa Fe police have worked continuously on the case but little information has been uncovered to date. The former Taos man served in the Navy during World War II and later lived in Fort Worth, Texas for several years before moving to Fairview 3 years ago. He was planning to move to Santa Fe where he had been completing arrangement to take over the West Side service station. El Crepusculo Nov 21,1957.
Chavez, J. Bernabe 88 of Ranchos de Taos, NM Passed away 18 April 1993. Survived by his wife Anita Dominguez Chavez and three children, Dolores (Gilbert) Cano, Virginia (Jerry) Laughlin, and David (Nedra) Chavez.9 Grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren. He was born July 11,1904 to Tomasita and Gabriel Chavez of Ranchos de Taos, NM. His brothers are Eli (Adela), George (Mela), and Bonifacio (Juanita). Deceased siblings include Eliverio (Gregorita), Blas (Fedelina) and Roberto (Irene). His surviving sister is Anna Chavez Valerio (Candido). He was a school teacher, supervisor, director of instruction and eventually as Taos county school superintendent. He worked as chief of the schools until he retired in 1962, completing a 38 year tenure in education. Taos News 4-29-1993.
Connerley, Bette H. 78, of Taos, NM and formerly of Fremont, Nebraska passed away 6 Feb 2005. She is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Connerley. She is survived by her daughter Debra Kraemer and husband, Rob, of Tampa, Florida and her son Jay and wife Mary, of Taos, NM. Mary's son Paul Gugino, his wife and 3 daughters of Cincinnati, Ohio. She also leaves behind her sister, Tini Cummings, of Texarkana, Texas and many longtime friends and neighbors in Fremont. A memorial Mass was held 13 Feb 2006 at St. Patrick's Church in Fremont, Nebraska. Interment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery along side Melvin. Taos News 2-23-2006.
DeHerrera, Terecita 91, of Valdez, NM and Denver, Co. passed away on January 1,2012. She is preceded in death by her sons, Elias Clovis Herrera and Adonias Garcia; husband Matias DeHerrera; Parents, Marcos and Genoveva Montoya, brothers, Presentacion, Cornelio and Rufino Montoya and sister, Eleonor Vigil. She is survived by her daughter Nora Sillas, grandchildren, Juanita Silas Lucero (Mike), Abel Sillas (Gabrielle), Lloyd Sillas, Anabelle Rodriguez and Prescilla Rael (Eli), Great Grandchildren, Ricardo Rael, Lisandro Sillas (Jessica), Michael, Christopher, Vanessa and Valerie Sillas, Jessica Sillas, Shane Sach, Aliah Sillas, Jonathan, Joseph and Lillian Rodriguez; 17 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Rosary was recited on January 5, 2012. Funeral Mass was held on January 6,2012. Both service were held at the San Antonio Church with interment following at the Valdez Cemetery. Taos News 1-12-2012.
Delgado, Rosita P. 84, a loving mother, grandmother, sister and daughter died on Thursday, May 26, 2011, in Rio Rancho, NM, following a long term illness. Rosita provided over 40 years of dedication and service in the honorable profession of teaching children in the Penasco School district. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Felix Pacheco; nephew Ricky Brandstetter. Rosita is survived by her daughter, Dolores and husband Alfred Sanchez; son, Albert and wife Liz Delgado; 6 grandchildren: Monica Sanchez-Aguilar, Patricia Sanchez, Tanya Bazan, Alfred Sanchez Jr., Brent Booher, Matthew Delgado; 3 great-granddaughters; 2 great grandsons; sister, Harriet Brandstetter; brothers, Ruben Fresquez, Peter Pacheco and Johnny F. Pacheco; nieces, nephews other loving relatives and friends. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the Penasco, NM Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dineen, Christine Mabel was born to Raymond and Irene Dineen on October 2,1951 in Levittown, New York. She studied at City College of New York and received a degree in dance. Christine received a degree in Integrative Energy Medicine from the Snow Lion Institute as well as licensure as a yoga instructor. Christine was an avid outdoor person who loved skiing and hiking, and being a mother to her beloved Halley and Sam. She also enjoyed her travels in Nepal and China and her studies of Buddhism. Christine fought her battle with pancreatic cancer with grace, but succumbed peacefully in her sleep on May 10,2011 at home surrounded by family. She is survived by her mother, Irene Dineen, her children, Halley Elizabeth Bebout and Sam Maverick Bebout, brothers Scott Dineen, Paul Dineen, Raymond Dineen and Anthony Dineen. She will be Profoundly missed and forever remembered in our hearts. Taos News 5-19-2011.
Duran, Alberto 100, of Arroyo Seco, NM, died April 26,1994 in Albuq. NM. He was a WWI veteran and a member of VFW post 3259. He is survived by son, Lorenzo Esiquel (Betty) Duran of Taos, NM. 8 grandchildren, several nephews and nieces. Rosary was recited Wednesday April 27 and Thursday, at Rivera Hanlon Chapel. Funeral Mass celebrated Friday at Holy Trinity Church in Arroyo Seco, NM. Interment at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Ladies Auxiliary of Taos. Honor guard by the Disabled American Veterans of Santa Fe. Pall bearers: Dennis Ortega, Elizardo Ortega, Bonifacio Duran, Leo Fernandez, Joe Pardo and Ernie Gutierrez. Eulogist Leo Pacheco. Special thank to the Hermanos de Nuestro Padre Jesus, Rev. Fr. Duran, Robert A. 35 years, a resident of Taos, NM passed away June 1, 1978. He is survived his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Felipe Duran from Security, Co. Daughter Dina, 3 years old, 3 brothers, Daniel Duran from Tooele, Ut, Jacob Duran from Taos, Leroy Duran from Albuq. NM. Rosary was recited Sunday at 8:00 at St. Martin Chapel. Funeral Mass Monday 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Interment followed at Las Cruces, Taos, NM Cemetery, with military honors. Robert was a Vietnam War Veteran. Esquibel, Clorinda Mondragon 85, a resident of Rodarte, NM passed away peacefully May 5, 2011. She is preceded in death by her parents; Alfredo and Eliseria Mondragon; sons Heny and David Mondragon, Danny Esquibel, son-in-law Ralph Herrera; brother, Florencio Mondragon and sister, Lola Lopez. Clorinda is survived by her children, George (Irene) Esquibel of Espanola, Anival Esquibel of Billings, Mo. Fita (Al) Miera of Denver, Co, Mela (Joe) Gutierez of Grants,NM, Dora Herrera of Price, Ut, Rudy (Maranne) Mondragon of Nevada, Armando (Cecilia) Mondragon of Grants, NM, Ricky (Patty) Mondragon of Llano de San Juan, NM, Andrew (Allice) Llano de San Juan, NM, Karen (Ralph) Arellano of Arroyo Hondo, NM; brothers Arturo Mondragon, Tony Mondragon; sister Benina Rodriguez; 38 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Church service will be held at the Rodarte Church of Christ Sunday May 8, 2011 at 11:00 AM. Burial at the Llano de San Juan Cemetery.
Esquibel, Joe Cristobal 70, of Denver, Co.(Formerly of Llano, NM) Passed away Friday, December 23, 2011. He is survived by his partner, Carmen. His 4 children; Jenny (Miguel) Lopez, Julian (Christine) Esquibel, Lorraine (Jose) Montoya and Chriss Esquibel. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren great-grandchildren, step-children, 2 sisters Mary and Corrina and other extended family and friends. Preceded in death by his daughter Brenda Ortiz and his parents Alfonso and Escolastica Esquibel.

She is survived by one son Fernando Fernandez and one daughter Antonia Fernandez, her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Ben Tafoya of Canon, NM, Father-in-law Ramon Fernandez of Arroyo Seco; 6 brothers, Toby and wife Elena Tafoya, Taos, Arthur and wife, Via Tafoya, Ogden, Ut., Chris and wife, Judy Tafoya, Layton, Ut., Orlando and wife Lorraine Tafoya, Taos, NM., Ben and wife Elena Tafoya, Taos, Esequiel (Zeke) and wife Estella Tafoya, Taos, NM. 3 sisters, Anabelle and son Ted Tafoya, Taos, Betty and husband Abel Salazar, Ranchos de Taos, Beatrice and husband Louis Martinez, Taos, NM. Brother-in-law, Ramon and wife Diana Fernandez, Arroyo Seco, NM. Sisters-in-Law, Isabel and Rosalia Fernandez, Arroyo Seco, NM, 21 nephews, 17 nieces, 4 grand nieces and 1 grand nephew. Ford, Jean Marie 51, of Ranchos de Taos, NM. Sadly left her loving family and friends Feb 2, 2012. She was born Jan 14,1961 in Walsenburg, Co. She was the third child born to Jim and Nellie Ford. Jean and her sister Jolene Ford died in a car and semi accident in Alamosa, Colorado. Survived by her father Jim Ford, sisters Judi (Danny) Neufeld, Joanne Ford and brother James Ford, nephew Brian (Nicole) Neufeld, niece Kris Neufeld and great-niece Landry Neufeld, aunt Dorothy Long, uncle Bob Beiriger and numerous cousins and special friend Rose Miller. Ford, Jolene Kay 44, of Center Co. And her sister Jean Marie Ford, 51, died as a result of a car and semi truck accident that occurred Thursday evening Feb 2, 2012 at or about 4:42 PM on Colorado 160 approx. 3 miles west of Alamosa, Co. Jolene was born Oct 1, 1967 in Alamosa, Co. She was the youngest of 5 children of Jim and Nellie (Beiriger) Ford. Survived by her father Jim Ford. Sisters, Judy (Danny) Neufeld and Joanne Ford, and brother James Ford; nephew Brian (Nicole) Neufeld, niece Kris Neufeld and great-grandniece Landry Neufeld; aunt Dorothy Long, uncle Bob Beiriger and numerous cousins. Preceded in death by her mother Nellie Beiriger Ford. Service will be Saturday February 11, 1012 at the Center United Methodist Church in Center, Colorado at 1:30 PM. Vallet Courier 2-10-2012.
Fresquez, Emilia G. 79, of Ranchos de Taos, NM, passed away on August 19,2005. She is preceded in death by her parents Carlos and Isabel Garcia, and son Robert Anthony Fresquez. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Manuel A. Fresquez, her children, Alex Fresquez (Elidia), Mary P. Roybal (Melvin Trujillo), Henry Trujillo (Anna) Espinosa), Jose Fresquez, Ruby Luna ( Anthony), Reyes Roybal (Karen Garcia), all from Ranchos de Taos, NM. Brother Carlos Garcia Jr. (Claudina), 8 grand children, 12 Great grandchildren. Risary was recited on August 21, 2005. Funeral Mass was held on August 22, 2005. Both service were held at the San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church in Ranchos de Taos, NM. Interment was held at Jesus Nazareno Cemetery. Taos News 8-25-2005.
Gallegos, Juan Santos 74, well known farmer of Questa, NM passed away Tuesday at the Family Home. A native of Cerro, NM, he was a member of the Questa SPMDTU. Services are pending the arrival of a grandson from New York City. Other survivors include, Son, Jose A. Gallegos of Questa; daughters, Mrs. Max Montoya and Miss Tillie Gallegos, both of Questa; sisters, Mrs. Mary Archuleta, Monte Vista, Co., Mrs. Erene Trujillo, Alcalde, NM, Mrs. Fermin Cisneros, Questa and Mrs. Jose L. Glanz, Dolores 83, a lifelong resident of Taos, NM Passed away on March 20, 2011. She along with her husband, Carl Drotin Glanz owned and operated the Broken Wheel and La Veranda Galleries in Taos. She was an artist who painted Taos Pueblo Scenes, the Chimayo Church, Kachinas and Petroglyphs. She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Drotin Glanz, parents, Ben and Linda Hopkins; brothers John W. and James A. Hopkins and grandson, Lucero Hopkins. She is survived by her son, James Hopkins of Taos, NM. She will be laid to rest at the family plot at Sierra Vista Cemetery. Taos News March 2011.
Gonzales, Evangelina 61 year old resident of Vadito, NM, died last Thursday at the Embudo Hospital. Funeral services were held last Saturday morning at the Vadito Chapel with Father Guadalupe Rivera officiating and burial was made in the Vadito Cemetery. The Garcia Funeral Home was in charge. Surving are her husband Rubel Gonzales; 5 sons, Manuel, Gabriel, Juan, Adonias Gonzales all of Vadito, and Roberto Gonzales of Cherry Creek, Nevada; daughter Cloudena Gonzales of Vadito; 2 adopted sons, Clodoveo and Elidia Romero, both from Vadito. Pallbearers were: Adolfo Martinez, Celedonia Romero, Juan Montoya, Orlando Romero, Marcelino Romero and Thomas Barela. Rosary service were held Thursday and Friday evening at the Vadito home. Gonzales, Juan A. 96, of Des Montes, NM died Sunday July 6, 2008. He was preceded in death by his wife Julia Gonzales, infant son, Juan Jr., parents Faustin and Merenciana Gonzales; sisters Rafaelita Cantu and Grace Trujillo and brothers, Tito Gonzales, Claudio Gonzales and Isaac Gonzales. He is survived by his children, Priscilla Martinez (Gilbert), of Arroyo Seco, Connie DeVargas (Pete) of Santa Fe, Bernice Cordova (Fernando) of Taos and Mary Ellen Trujillo (Richard Avina) of Pueblo, Co; 12 grandchildren and many other relatives. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM today, July 8 at Holy Trinity Church in Arroyo Seco, NM. Mass will celebrated at 10:00 AM Wednesday July 9, at the same church with burial to follow at 3:00 PM at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Albuq. Journal North 8 July 2008.
Gonzales, Pauline 3 month old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pablo Gonzales of Talpa, NM, died at Holy Cross Hospital on Tuesday. Funeral service were held yesterday afternoon at the Talpa Chapel, followed by interment in the Talpa Cemetery by Garcia Funeral Home. Also surviving are the grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Frank Gonzales of Talpa. Pallbearers were: Gregorio Gonzales, Juan Gonzales, Cerafin Garcia and Juan Herrera. El Crepusculo Aug 29, 1957.
Gonzales, Robert "Bobby" 44, a resident of Llano, NM passed away on Sunday Nov 27,2011 following a brief illness. Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Evelyn Gonzales, brothers, Victor and Praxedes Gonzales; Maternal grandmother, Alice M. Lopez; Paternal grandparents, Juan and Eulogia Gonzales; aunt, Debbie A. Romero, Uncle, Dennis Gonzales; cousin, Elaine Martinez and God-parents Willy and Lydia Sanchez. Bobby was born to Robert and Mary Evelyn Gonzales on July 19, 1967. He was a very loving outgoing person who attracted everyone. He had a love for mechanics and could fix almost anything. He enjoyed being with family and friends and loved everyone's company. Mr. Gonzales is survived by his sisters, Virginia "Gina" Gonzales of Colo, Darlene Gonzales and husband Ronald; brother, Jason Gonzales and companion Heather; nephews Bryan, Tony and Praxedes; nieces, Katrina, niece/God-daughter, Moniqua and twins on the way; great nephew Jahir; grandfather, Nicanor Lopez of Colo; children he raised, Christy and Damian Martinez; uncle who raised him and called him "Jimmy", Anival Gonzales; close cousins, Frankie Lopez of Chamisal and Jonathan Montoya of Los Luceros and Allison Garcia who called him "Dobby" and many aunts, uncles, cousins and other family and friends. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Dec 3, 2011 at 12:00 PM at the San Antonio de Pauda Catholic Church in Penasco, NM. Burial to follow at the Llano Catholic Cemetery. Hess, Margaret Macart 98, passed away on January 8,2012 peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pastor John Ralph Hess; her parents David and Isabel Macart; her brother William Allen Macart (Christine) and sister Jean and nephew Russell O. Hess III (Lori). She is survived by her daughter Betsy Martinez (Robert); grandchildren Ana and Daniel Martinez; niece Barbara Macart Fitzgerald (Ray); Nephew Gordon Macart, niece Mary Hess Powers (Bill), Jim Hess (Jeanne), Alan Hess (Glenda), and David Hess (Donna) and grand nieces and nephews. Her life was one of service to God and community. She supported her husband throughout their ministry in the Lutheran Church. After retirement she volunteered at an Austin, TX, children's library, a senior citizen's support organization, and worked for environmental causes. She moved to Taos 9 years ago to be with her family. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 14, at 1100 AM at the Sangre de Cristo Lutheran Church. Huston, Bruce Lindsay Born in New York City, NY 1 June 1938 passed away Wednesday 15 Feb 2006 at the Taos Living Center. He grew up in Washington, D. C. He was an Air Force Veteran and during his service he played the French horn in the Air Force Band. He was a long time Taos, NM resident. He is survived by his daughter Carla, and sons Zachary and Luke, and his brothers Jim Huston of Idaho Falls, Idaho and David Huston of Las Vegas, Nevada. Taos News 2-23-2006.

Ortega, Salomon Funeral services were held Saturday March 15, 1969 for Salomon Ortega who died at his home (Penasco, NM) March 12 at the age of 86. Ortega was a Taos County Representative in 1919-20 and again in 1953-54 in the New Mexico Legislature. He also served as Probate Judge in Taos County in 1942-43 and was active for several years in the justice of the peace courts. Owen, Alex A. Jr. 68, was born 12 March 1943 in Taos, NM to his late mother Mary Louise Owen and Father Alex Owen Sr. He is survived by his loving and beautiful wife Afaf Owen; Son, Paul Owen; Grandson Andrew Owen; daughters, Zanna Owen and Marylouise Owen and her husband Mark Trujillo, and granddaughter, Eliea Trujillo. He is also survived by his sister, Adel Balesh and brother Dale Owen. Alex is preceded in death by his sisters, Twinsa Sahd, Maryann Asmar and brother Albert Owen. Alex a life long resident of Penasco, NM, owned and operated Owen's Store for over 40 years. He was a well respected and well liked member of the community. He will be missed. Alex bravely and boldly bounded from the loving arms of his earthly family into welcoming arms of his heavenly family on May 10th, 2011. Pacheco, Daniel S. 17 months old drowned last Friday at Alamogordo, NM, when he fell into a bucket of water, the body was returned to Taos County Saturday for services and burial at Costilla, NM. He was the son of Mr. & Mrs. George Pacheco, who have been living and working at Alamogordo, NM. Arrangements were made by Hanlon Funeral Home of Taos and Mullins-Hamilton Mortuary of Alamogordo. The tragedy happened when the baby's mother went next door for a moment and the infant stumbled into the bucket of water on the floor. Romero, Bobby A. Sgt. USMC Died March 1, 1978 in a fire at the American Embassy in Paris France. Born July 16, 1954 in Espanola, NM. He was a 1973 graduate of the St. Mary's Catholic High School in New England, North Dakota. He joined the Marines when he was 20 years old in August 1974. Two years later he was assigned to the Marine Security Guard Battalion in May of 1976. He served at the American Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan, before his transfer to Paris, France in August 1977. Just recently he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Sergeant on the basis of prolonged superior performance and leadership. Memorial services were held at 12:00 Noon Wednesday March 8 at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 50 Avenue Hoche, Paris VIII. A Catholic Memorial Mass was said at the Italian Chapel in Kabul the evening of March 9th. Romero, Juan Felipe Sr. 61, Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan 18 (1969) for County Commissioner Juan Felipe Romero Sr. who died at Holy Cross Hospital Jan 15. His death came as a result of Pneumonia, which came while he was recovering from a stroke which he suffered in December. A life long resident of Vadito, NM, Romero operated J. F. Romero and Sons Equipment Co. in Ranchos de Taos and the Acapulco Club and Rock Wall Tavern in Vadito, with his sons. Romero served from 1943-45 in the U. S. Navy and was Taos County Representative in the New Mexico Legislature in the late 40's and again in the 50's. In addition to his seat on the County Commission, won in November's general election, his public duties included membership on the Penasco School board and he had also served on the board of the Kit Carson Electric Cooperative, Inc. Rev. Thomas Wilkerson presided over the services at St. Anthony's Church in Penasco. Burial followed at the Placitas-Vadito Cemetery. A Color Guard from the Taos VFW Post and Montezuma Barracks and a firing squad from the Taos national Guard were present at the Cemetery. Rosary services were held at the San Martin Chapel in Taos, Thursday and at St. Anthony on Friday. Sandoval, Edwardo 42, Resident of the Penasco, NM community was found frozen to death early last Friday near the home of his sister, Mrs. Aurelia Ortega, with whom he lived, according to Sheriff Edmundo Quintana. The family reported that Sandoval had gotten up about midnight last Thursday, put a blanket around his shoulders and said he was going to a neighbor's home, according to the sheriff. Although his sister attempted to stop him, Sandoval went outdoors. His body was found about 300 feet from the house early Friday. An inquest directed by Justice of The Peace, Estevan Lopez reported death due to freezing. Service and burial were held in Penasco, NM. El Crepusculo Nov 28,1957.
Schuetz, Gottfried A. 87, Died June 30 (2008) in Taos, NM at his sister Martha's house. He was born in Lucern, Switzerland, to Gottfried A. Schuetz Sr. and Helena Schuetz. His mother and sister immigrated to the United States in 1946 and 2 years later he joined and reunited with his family in New Glarus, Wis., where Gottfried Sr. owned and operated a Cheese factory. Godie's mother and sister, Martha, also operated a restaurant in New Glarus, Wis. where he became a helping hand. During World War II, he served as a lieutenant in the Swiss Mountain Patrol Division. Prior to the war he had attended the universities in Zurich, Switzerland and Stockholm, Sweden. His love for the outdoors led him to Lake Tahoe, Calif. where he fulfilled his dream to be a ski instructor, and then followed his career in Utah, Colorado and finally in New Mexico. Ernie Blake, owner of Taos Ski Valley, offered him the Prestigious position as a ski instructor, which lasted more that 35 years. He owned and operated the famous Casa Cordova Restaurant for 26 years in Arroyo Seco. He was preceded in death by his parents Gottfried Sr. and Helena Schuetz. He is survived by his sister Martha Schuetz of Taos, Stepson, Michael Gammon Schuetz of Albuq., and many other relatives and friends. Smith, Juan 75, Don Juan Smith well known former resident of Penasco, NM died Saturday 11 August, 1957 at his residence in Santa Fe. He was born in Penasco, NM where he was a merchant and ran a store established by his father, the deceased Abram Smith. Juan Smith established a telephone system in 1903 that was operational until 1928. Telephone system serviced the areas of Chama, Tierra Amarilla, Espanola, (Ro Arriba County) Conejos and Antonito (Colorado). He served as Justice of the Peace in Penasco, and as School Board Member for Taos County. Survived by his wife Magdalena M. Smith, daughter, Anita S. Stewart Gil, Ann Gilmor Was born Dec 28,1953 in New York City. Her mother was Deborah Burton Pardee of Wilton, Connecticut, and her father is David Michael Stewart of Francetown, New Hampshire. Gil Grew up in Wilton, Connecticut and attended Laycock School and Simon's Rock, and graduated from Wilton High School. In 1974 she moved to Albuq. NM to attend the University of NM, where she graduated with a BFA. She then Attended TVI in Albuq. to attain her Certificate for surveying. She obtained her surveying license and moved to Santa Fe. She later moved to Taos and started her own surveying firm, AGS Land Surveying. Gil has moved on to our spirit world, and joins her grandparents, Baba, Irving, Hilda and Charles, her mother Deborah, her uncle Talcott and her great uncle Pat and aunt Gertie, Meter, Rhino and Alamo. She leaves on this world her devoted husband Michael LuJan Kastner, her brother Parry Stewart and her nephews Bryan, Kyle, Clay and Keaton. She also leaves on this world her very dearest Aunt Peggy, her Uncle Trevor, Aunt Erdice and her cousins David, Seth, Tony and Chip, Leigh, Trevor and Margaret Pardee. Struck, Jose Salomon 83, of Taos. NM Passed away August 16, 2005. He was an Army Veteran of WWII who served in Europe and was the recipient of 2 purple hearts for wounds received in combat. He was a longtime Taos School Teacher of 9th grade Civics. He was an Elder of Taos First Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Theodora Struck, children Charlene Labadie (Gilbert), of Taos, Sylvia Roybal (Sylvian) and Barbara Larsen all of Denver, Co, Debbie Struck of Taos, Jeanie Sena of Denver, Co, and Jessica Biven (Matthew) of Albuq. He is also survived by 10 grand children and 9 great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. Pallbearers Ross Roybal, Ted Medina, Sara Medina, Adam Roybal, Matthew Biven and Megan Sena. Suazao, Francisquita V. 77, widow of late Maclovio Suazo and sister-in-law of A. D. Suazo was brought to Taos by the Hanlon Funeral Home yesterday, Mrs. Suazo died at Fort Stanton hospital. Suazo, Leopoldo "Leo" R. 81 years of age, died Dec 31,2011, in Bailey, Co. He was born Feb 19, 1930 in Pilar, NM to parents Amarante and Regina Suazo. Leo was a dedicated son, husband, dad and Pompo. Leo proudly served his country in the Armed Forces as a tank operator, receiving the Army Occupational Medal (Germany). He raised his family in Albuq. NM where he retired after 30 years as a truck driver. He and his wife moved back to his childhood home in Pilar, NM, after retiring. Leo was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Cecilia L. Suazo, who died Feb 5, 2008 and daughter-in-law Dana Howey-Suazo, died June 19,2008. He is survived by 2 sons, Silas V. Suazo and Leo R. Suazo II; 1 daughter Regina A. Suazo; 1 daughter-in-law Janell G. Suazo and 2 grandchildren, Miguel A. Suazo and Sarah P. Suazo. Tafoya, Jacob A. Age 29, a resident of Albuq. and Taos, NM. Passed away unexpectedly Friday, December 30,2011. He is survived by his mother, Erlinda Branchal (Art Vigil) of Albuq. NM; father Eric Tafoya (Faith) of Taos, NM.; Son, Brayden Tafoya, Stepson Kaleb White; Fiance, Adriel White; sister, Angel Paiz and husband Matt; brothers, Matthew (Iris), Eloy (Samantha); half brother, E. J. Tafoya; nephews and nieces, Lazarine, Dacelan, Noah, Malayla, Peyton and expected baby Jacob. Maternal grandfather Reynalso Branchal; paternal grandmother, Evangeline Tafoya of Taos, NM; numerous aunts and uncles, as well as many family and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mercey Branchal. Pallbearers were, Matt Tafoya, E. J. Tafoya, Eloy Tafoya, Matt Paiz, David Rey Jr., Everett White, Jeremiah Montanez, Tim Vanderberg. Tejada, Andrieta M. 49, Died Monday evening at Holy Cross Hospital. Mrs. Tejada was one of the best known teachers in Taos County. She was a teacher in the county 29 years and in the Taos Municipal most of those years, she had been ill for many months. Supt. Joe Otero said Taos Elementary School classes will be dismissed this morning for funeral services. She was a teacher of the pre-first grade class in the primary building. Mrs. Tejada was the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Juan Manuel Martinez, well known Taos residents. Her husband was Alfonso Tejada of Taos. Funeral service were held at 9:00 AM this morning. Torres, Juan E. 88, of Taos, NM Passed away after a lengthy illness on March 19,2012. He was an Army Veteran of WWII and served in Luzon in the Pacific Theatre. Juan was a lifetime rancher and member of the VFW. He is preceded in death by his parents, Onesimo V. and Maria Ana Torres; brothers and sisters, Donaciano Torres (Euralia), Criselda Vigil (Rafael), Esequiel Torres (Feliciana), Marina Archuleta, Ricardo, Primitivo, Luis and Patricio Torres. He is survived by his wife, Claudia R. Torres, children, Daniel Torres of Taos, Rebecca "Becky" Gonzales of Colorado, Samuel Torres of Taos, Loyola Torres of Taos, Raphael Torres (Martha) of Albuq., and Veronica Torres of Rio Rancho. He is also survived by brothers and sister, Fermin Torres (Irene), Martin Torres (Elma) and Casilda Medina (Jessie); 12 grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren; brother-in-law Manuel Archuleta, sisters-in-law Bernice and Carolina Torres and Marcella Rodriguez, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Trujillo, Luis A. Funeral services for Luis A. Trujillo, a life-long Taos resident who served in many public offices, were conducted by the Rev. Robert Beach at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church last Friday with burial following at Sierra Vista Cemetery. Hanlon Funeral Home in charge of the arrangement. Luis A. Trujillo was born on April 12, 1908 to Pedro R. Trujillo and Rebecca Valdez-Trujillo. In 1928 he married Crecencia (Grace) Gonzales. Their sons include, C. B., Felix, Tony and Levi Trujillo. Luis A. Trujillo served as a school teacher, as Taos Post Master, State Representative, Rio Grande Gorge Park Service and as manager of the Town of Taos Water Department. Survivors include, in addition to his wife and sons listed prior, sister, Eloisa Mares, and 2 brothers Edwardo and Ignacio and 7 grandchildren. Trujillo died at a hospital in Houston, Texas April 28 after an extended illness. Taos News 1969.
Trujillo, Roy L. 56, Retired Major, United States Marine Corp. Passed away June 5, 2012. Our beloved Son, Brother, Uncle and Friend, Roy L. Trujillo, flew his last mission and returned to Our Heavenly Father. Roy was born March 27,1956 in Murray, Utah to Manuel Gervacio Trujillo and Rose Fresquez Trujillo. He passed away June 5, 2012 at the Veterans Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, after suffering a second massive stroke. Roy retired from the U. S. Marines as a Major, after a 26 year Career. Roy's biggest love was flying his Huey, fulfilling his dream since childhood..Semper Fi.. Roy leaves behind his mother, Rose; and his only sister, Lydia (Johnny) Vidaurre; brothers, Don, Ben (Mary) from Utah, Manuel (Shirley) from Albuquerque, NM, Henry (Mari) from Penasco, NM also numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and countless friends. Roy was preceded in death by his father, Manuel; brothers, Arnold and David Trujillo; his sister-in-law Linda Trujillo, along with his grandparents, Uncles and aunts who are now celebrating with him. Roy's personality always guaranteed many close friendships. His infectious humor was loved by all. Everyone he met became a friend. Viewing will be at St. Therese the Child Jesus Catholic Church, 624 West Lennox St, Midvale, Utah on Thursday, June 7, 2012 from 6-8 PM. with rosary at 7:30 PM. Valerio, Inocencio Jose 81, Funeral service were held for Inoncencio Jose Valerio of Ranchos de Taos, NM, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church Thursday, Aug 25,1969. Burial followed at the St. Francis Cemetery. Valerio died at the Embudo Presbyterian Hospital on Aug 22 at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tranqulino Romero & Matilde Martin Romero; husband Juan Vidaurre, Grandson, Adam J. Trujillo. She is survived by her children, John (Lydia) Vidaurre of Utah, Alberto (Diana) Vidaurre of Taos, Helen Vidaurre of Llano de San Juan and JoAnn V.(Patrick) Trujillo also of Llano de San Juan, NM; sister Adelina R. Vigil of Utah. Also surviving her are 8 grandchildren, Yvette, John and Yvonne Vidaurre, Jayme and Michelle Ward, Michael John Vidaurre, Patricia Trujillo, Gaspar and Valerie Garcia, and Elizabeth Trujillo, 4 great grandchildren and numerous others relatives and friends.
