Rev Rasmus Andersen
Founded Our Saviors, Brooklyn, New York and was also at St.
Stephen's in Perth Amboy, New Jersey (1878-1883)
August 18, 1930 Rasmus Andersen, Lutheran cleric, died (b.
1848). He attended Ryslinge Mission School, near Ringe, on Fyn Island,
Denmark. He was sent to the U. S. in 1871 as a missionary among Danes
by The Society for the Propagation of the Gospel Among the Danes in North
America. He graduated from Augsburg Seminary in Marshall, Wisconsin.
In 1872 he helped organize "Kirkelig Missionsforening" and became pastor
of a church in Waupaca, Wisconsin (until 1878). He later served as
pastor in Perth Amboy, New Jersey while also serving as immigrant missionary
at Castle Garden (at the Battery) and later on Ellis Island. He moved
to Brooklyn, New York, in September 1878 and began serving also the Danish
Seamen's Mission. He concurrently also served a congregation at Lansingburgh,
New York. His works include writings on Danish church history.
