1744-5, February 13 Page 253 Will of Humphrey Hughes, Yeoman of Cape May County.
Wife: Elizabeth, an annuity
Son: Elijah, three tracts of land in aforesaid county. between lands of Ebenezer Swaine and Cornelius Schillinks, joining land of Zebuln Swaine at the N.W. part and 1/3 of my right in the five mile Beach.
Son: Uriah, 3 tracts of land at Nummes near George Stites and Jonathan Forman, also 1/3 of my right in the five mile Beach.
Grandson: Humphrey Hughes, all land upon Cape Island, the tract bewteen Joseph Whilden and Robert Parsons, a tract at the northern most part of the land of Zebulon Swaine, and 1/3 of my right in the five mile Beach; upon condition that he shall pay ƒ20 to his brothers John and Elisha Hughes when they shall be 21. In case of failure to pay the ƒ20, the lands shall be divided equally among my grandsons, Humphrey, John and Elisha Hughes; 1/2 of the rents of these lands shall be used to "bring them up to learning", the other 1/2 given to Humphrey.
