About NHS
Northwood Historical Society

Each year the Northwood Historical Society hosts three public events focusing on some aspect of town or regional history,  In the recent past we've enjoyed music from a Civil War regimental band, learned about slavery in New Hampshire and heard about the life of a citizen-soldier in the American Revolution.  These meetings are open to the public and free of charge.

Here are the events for 2007.  Please check back often as dates, times and places may change.

15 May 2007

The Society will be hosting the annual business meeting at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, 15 May 2007 at the Advent Christian Church on School Street.  Please come to hear about programs and activities for this year.  Steve Bailey will be discussing the Bartlett Mill and The Narrows in general.  Steve’s model of the mill will be on display.

Tuesday, July 17 2007
One of our Northwood Historical Society members has a 5-generation history of summering and full-time residency on Pleasant Lake in Northwood and Deerfield. Joe Knox of Northwood will be presenting a history of the lake community from his own experience and research, as well as that of Andy Turner, another researcher with a long family history on the lake.  Following Mr. Knox's talk the Historical Society will host an ice cream social.
This meeting will be held at the Congregational Church at 7:00 PM on July 17.

Tuesday, September 19, 2007
In September we’ll continue our study of the history of churches in Northwood, with a look at the Free Will Baptist Church on Northwood Ridge.  We will meet at the church at 7:00PM on Tuesday, September 18.

This year's museum exhibit

Each year we open the Museum for a program of interest to Northwood.  This year we will continue to focus on the history of The Narrows, where the first home was built in colonial Northwood.

The museum on School Street will again be open every Saturday in July and August, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM.
