My name is Dan Meehan, I am the Commander for Charles W. Canney Camp No. 5, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, headquartered in Rochester, N.H.

Charles W. Canney and his family moved from Tuftonboro, NH to Rochester two years before the Civil War. Charles was a member of Co. D, 5th N.H.V.I., his father Edward was a member of the 6th N.H.V.I.

Charles was killed during the battle of Cold Harbor and was buried there.

The original Sons of Veterans camp in Rochester was formed in the late 1800's was named after Charles W. Canney. They finally disbanded around 1914.

A little over three years ago myself and some other Civil War historians decided to re-form the Camp with the original name. We are dedicated to promoting and preserving the memory of the Union Veteran and the Civil War.
