Jesse Mudgett
(1812-1902)
Jesse Mudgett was b. 22 Feb 1812 and d. 14
Jul 1902 at Sandwich,NH (NHVR) His parents were
Elisha Mudget and Sarah Webster.
On 4 Dec 1836 Jesse married Jane Burnham
(1816-1885) of Sandwich, NH also. Jane's
parent's were Aaron Burnham and
Sarah Emery (NHVR)
Three
children were born to Jesse and Sarah and they
were:
Lucinda B. (17 Jun 1838- 9 Aug 1916)
Elisha W. (17 Jun 1841- 16 Sep 1911)
Emily J. (24 Nov 1843- 19 Jan 1912)
Jesse and his brother Moses (1808-1842) were
deeded their fathers land in 1836 (received
1839). Jesse' grandsons, Jesse and Frank,
kept the farm for a while. Jesse deeding it
to Harry Blanchard in 1934.
The farm burned to the ground
in 1939.
One of
the prosperous farmers of Sandwich, with
outlying pastures for his cattle and well tilled
fields at home. His cattle were generally of
such good quality that buyers usually headed his
way. The crops of potatoes, corn and other
grains were more than ample for the needs of the
family and surplus was traded at the local
stores (Sandwich Excursion Books). His farm was
on Upper Rd., Sandwich.
Sandwich Reporter; Sept. 1, 1892 - Jesse
Mudgett of this town; a man 80 years old,
made his 1st trip on the cars from West Ossipee
to North Conway last Tues. to attend the
coaching parade.
