*From Michael J. Laurie, B.A. LL.B, Bell Island noted:
St. Thomas Roman Catholic Cemetery at St. Thomas is still used
today. My grandfather, James Laurie, Sr. was buried there in 1924.
From 1844 to the early 1980's this cemetery was under Holy Rosary
Parish at Portugal Cove. Holy Family Parish was commenced at
Paradise when a portion of the Flannery property which lies between
the creek in Topsail Valley and Horse Cove Line, was purchased in part
and 4 acres of the 10 acres upon which the church and school is
situate, was donated in the Last Will and Testament of Edward (?
Browne, son of the late Judge William Browne and former
Solicitor-General of Canada. I think the cemetery at St. Thomas, a few
hundred yards north of the intersection of Laurie Road and Horse Cove
Line (Route 50), is the only cemetery within the area of the parish.
The cemetery of St. Thomas of Villanova (Topsail) is where the grotto
is erected. Catholics who lived on Horse Cove Line and on Paradise
and Topsail Road, who were part of Topsail Parish prior to the
establishment of Holy Family Parish, were buried at Topsail and
notwithstanding the fact that they no longer are part of Topsail parish
since families hitherto bought their family plots there, these deceased
are still buried at Topsail while the same occurs for those deceased
who formerly lived in Holy Rosary Parish at St. Thomas (by the
Proclamation of 1921 and published in the Newfoundland Gazette in
April, 1922.) St. Thomas was called "Horse Cove". Only the community
itself was officially changed by law and hence, Horse Cove Line
remains lawful while some people refer to the road incorrectly as
"St. Thomas Line."  Thank You Michael, I really appreciate you
clarification.

Cemetery of all faiths is over 200 years old. It is near the Hammond property on Lance Cove Road, Bell Island.  By means of a grant of one form or another, the youth of Kitimavik, repaired some of the headstones and made a walking path from the paved highway to the cliff site, 1997.  Thanks Michael.
