1994

Lawrence A. (Bud) Goodwin (1927-1994)
Lawrence A. (Bud) Goodwin, 67, died at his home at Gordon, NE on August 11, 1994, after being in the VA Hospital at Hot Springs. Bud was born April 15, 1927, at Cody, NE, son of the late Arthur and Vera Wogig Goodwin. He spend his childhood and went to school at the Boiling Springs Flat. He married Bernita Dahlgren on December 18 1953. This union two children were born, Carolyn Scheuerell of Plano Texas, and Darrell, who was killed in an auto accident April 29, 1990. In September of 1960, he married Doris Ball in Denver. To this union three daughters were born: Connie, Sandy and Elaine all living in Florida. January 5, 1988 he married Stella Keller. He was a saddle bronc rider and participated in many area rodeos in his younger years. He was a paratrooper in the Korean Conflict. He loved to play the guitar and sing. He was a good welder and ranch hand and was a happy person. All who knew him liked his carefree ways. He leaves to mourn, his wife Stella and 5 step children, his four children, his brother, Gerald of Merriman ; sisters, Arlene Steele of Valentine, Donna Pedersen of Grand Junction, CO, many other relatives and friends. Services were held Monday, August 15, 1994 at 2:00 p.m., Father Philip Henderson officiating, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Interment was in the Gordon Cemetery.

1995

Nellie Ruhama Morris Coon (1899-1995)
Nellie Ruhama (Ruie) Morris was born at the Bornemann ranch in Cherry County, Nebraska, on December 13, 1899. She was the youngest of seven children born to Thomas and Mary Ann Roth Morris.

Following the death of her father in 1901, she came to Gordon with the family.

She was baptized and became a member of the Cradle Roll of the First Methodist Church in 1902 and was a member of the church at the time of her death. 

Ruie lived her entire life in the Gordon area, attending the public school and later Business College in Omaha. Ruie was a telephone operator in the local office for several years and later taught rural school. She was married to William Lewis Coon at Gordon on December 30, 1920 and to this union five children were born.

The family made their home in the rural area of Gordon, farming and later combined trucking with farming. They moved into Gordon in 1941 and devoted their entire time to trucking, establishing the Gordon Transfer Compnay in 1937. Mr. Coon died in June of 1960. Ruie was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Princess Rebekah Lodge of Gordon.

Survivors include the five children--Morris of Arlington, VA; Shirley McCue of Martin, SD; William J. of Rapid City, SD and Wayne and Dean of Gordon; nine grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Ruie died Wednesday, November 22, 1995, at the Gordon Good Samaritan Center. She was 95 years old. Funderal services were held Monday, November 27, at 10:00 a.m. at the Gordon United Methodist Church with Reverend Jack Sample officiating. Burial wa in the Gordon Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the American Legion Girls State/Boys State Fund. Chamberlain-Cicmanec Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

KIME, HAROLD T.
Gordon Nebr. -1995
Harold T. Kime was born at he family home, south of Gordon, Nebraska on August 27, 1917 to Clyde and Maude (DeVillers) Kime and died December 2, 1995 in Rapid City, South Dakota. He attended the local country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Gordon High School. Harold made cattle raising his life's work. He served in WWII until his discharge in 1947; at which time he joined the reserves. He was clled back to serve in the Korean Conflict from 1948 to 1951. Failing health made it necessary for him to spend sevral years in a VA hospital and later in an assisted care home. He later moved into his own home in Gordon where he lived several years and recently moved into an apartment at Prairie Pines Retirement Home in Chadron. He was a member of the Gordon American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans and the Tri-State Old Time Cowboys Association. Harold was preceeded in death by his parents; one sister, Faye Gwynn and one brother, John Kime. His survivors include three brothers, Archie and wife Elvira of Gordon; Walter of Western Nebraska Veterans Home at Scottsbluff and Glenn and his wife Marie of Rushville; one sister, Ann Egli of Gordon; nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 6th at 10 a.m. at te Gordon American Legion Hall with Rev. Jack Sample officiating. Burial was in the Gordon Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Nebraska Boys Ranch at Alliance. Donations may be left at or mailed to: The Communtiy First State Bank, P. O. Box 250, Gordon, NE 69343. Pallbearers were Boyd Egli, Gary Decker, Steve Kime, Bob Stillwell, Don Kime, Roy Milligan, Mike Kime and Dan Finney.

OSTRANDER, GEORGE HIRAM
"Midland News," June 14, 1995
George was born in the Sandhills of Nebraska to Albert and Freda Ostrander on Dec. 17, 1908 and passed from this life in the early morning of June 2, 1995 at the Gordon Good Samaritan Center. George spent most of his erly life working on the family ranch located in the Sandhills of northwest Nebraska. It is interesting to note that up until the time George entered public school he was referred to as simply "Boy Ostrander" in Spade, NE. George was the third born child in a family of ten children. Besides working as a farm and ranch hand throughout his life, he also worked for a period of time as a heavy equipment operator. While working on the Modisett Ranch he met and later married LoAnn Hatch who was at the time teaching country school. George and LoAnn raised three children, Jim, Claude and Loresta. After their marriage, they lived in Gordon for four years and then settled on a farm south of Gordon in the early sixties where they raised sheep, hogs and dairy cattle. As a farmer, George was known as a hard worker and was often known to work 12, 14, and even 18 hour days. One of the great loves of George's life, besides raising livestock, was raising and caring for the family garden. One of the many skills that George developed was his skill at trap shooting. During the mid-fifties, George would travel with other men from the Gordon area and compete in Trap Shooting contests. Sometimes they would travel as far as Arizona to compete. At one time he was recognized as one of the top trap shooters in the country and as some of the old clippings atest, George was usually right at the top of many of the tournaments that he entered. George is survived by his three children; Jim of Lincoln; Claude and Loretta, both of Gordon, and nine grandchildren. He is also survived by four sisters and one brother, Robert of Kentucky, Martha Peters, Irene Lefler, Opel Neilson, all of Gordon; and Florence Hebbert of Sterling, CO. He was preceded in death by his wife, LoAnn and three brothers, Floyd, Lee and Ralph, and one sister, Belle Peters. George was a very quiet man and lived pretty much to himself and his family. He enjoyed the simple things of life and was contented to work hard and live with little. Although he never formally attended a particular church or gave expression to his personal faith, his on Claude remembers times when his father would read the Gospel of John and find encouragement and hope in its words. Although he was never known as a deeply affectionae man, he loved his grandchildren and was often overheard singing make-up songs with them when they were together. He deeply loved his wife and was still struggling with her passing at the time of his death. Funeral services were held Monday, June 5 at 2 p.m. at the Gordon Church of God with Reverand Harlen Wheeler officiating. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery in Rushville. A memorial has been established in George's memory, for the Church of God, PO Box 100, Fordon, NE 69343

GWYNN, BLAINE L.
Gordon Nebr. -1997
Blaine L. Gwynn was born on November 29, 1947 at the Valentine hospital to James F. and M. Evelyn (Tech) Gwynn. Blaine grew up in the sandhills of Nebraska instilling his lifelong love of the Sandhills. In 1962, the family moved to a farm northeast of Gordon where he was his dad's right-hand man on the farm starting at a very young age. He attended a rural school in the sandhills and completed his 8th grade year at Sunny Knoll School (District 8). Blaine attended Gordon High School and graduated in 1966. He was active in wrestling and qualified for state two years. He attended Chadron State College and graduated from the National College of Business in Rapid City, SD in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Business Administration. Blaine was active in the Army Reserves from 1966-1968. He was in the United States Navy 1968-1970 during which time he was stationed in Guam. Upon his return from the service, Blaine purchased a 1970 SS Chevelle which he took great pride in. He also enjoyed stock car racing. Blaine was a member of the American Legion Post #32, Gordon, a veteran service officer and active in the Honor Guard. He held many occupations throughout his life from truck driving to farming. His latest occupations were relief mail carrier and van driver for Gordon Contryside Care. His calm, quiet and patient manner with the residents endeared him to the residents and their families. Blaine enjoyed spending time with his sons - Charlie, 13, and Jesse, 12. He spent many afternoons three-wheeling with his sons in the Sandulls that bordered hisparent's farm. He enjoyed the outdoors, waking, reading, music, being with his family and his mom's dinners. Survivors include his sons, Charlie and Jesse; parents - James and Evelyn; sister - Tina Mills and husband, Bob and niece Bailie, all from Gordon; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Military services were held at the Gordon American Legion Club at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, with Pastor Bob Dahlgren officiating. Burial was in the Gordon Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Gordon American Legion Club for the purchase of new ceiling tile. Chamberlain-Cicmanec mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

KIME, GLENN "SWEDE"
Chadron Nebr. -1997
Glenn "Swede" Kime died at the Chadron Community Hospital on May 19, 1997. He was born October 23, 1920 at the ranch south of Gordon to Clyde and Maude (DeVilliers) Kime. He attended school and liked all his teachers. On March 25, 1939 he married Marie Kuska at Martin, SD. He moved to the ranch that is now known as the Walter Kime Ranch. Later he sold the ranch to Walter and bought the Hart Lake Rance. Before moving to Gordon he sold the Hart Lake Ranch to Robert Pifer. He worked for Pete Hans Lumber until he opened the Carter Gas Station and moved to a farm east of Gordon. Soon after this he sold that ranch and moved to Rushville to retire. Swede was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Tri-State Old Time Cowboys, both in Gordon. While he was in Gordon he earned his commercial pilot's license. He helped fly patients to Omaha and Denver. During the winter when roads were bad he would put skis on his Super Cub and would fly the mail route with the mail carrier. Often he flew groceries to different ranches. He was a kind and loving husband, always thinking of others. He was a man of integrity and truthfulness, having many friends and he will be missed by many. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister - Faye Gwynn and her husband, Charles; brother - Walter and wife, Dorothy Kime; Harold and John Kime; brother-in-law John Egli, and a niece, Dorla Dean Swick of Texas. Swede is survived by his wife, Marie; brother, Archie and his wife Elvira Kime; sister, Ann Egli; sisters-in-law, Rose Kime of Greeley, CO; Helen and her husband, Harvey Willey of Hastings; many nieces and nephews and Jenett Curtis. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 6, at 2:00 p.m. at Chamberlain-Cicmanec Mortuary with Reverend Paul Prestrude of the Gordon Bible Church officiating. Inurnment will be in the Gordon Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Clifford McDonnell, Clifford Gier, James Gwynn, Joe Vinton, Allen Parker and Dale Piper. Arrangements are being handled by Chamberlain-Cicmanec Mortuary.

JOHNSON, MARY ELIZABETH
Gordon Nebr. -1998
Mary Elizabeth Johnson, age 85, of Gordon died of cancer, April 27, 1998. Mary was born Feb. 12, 1913 near Cody to Philip and Fredrika (Svarfvar) Nelson. Mary attended a small one-room school near their home and graduated from Gordon High School with the Class of 1931. Mary worked in the Cody Post Office from 1932-1935. She cared for her mother after her stroke in 1938 until her death in 1946. Her brother, John, was in the Air Force during World War II and she ran the ranch diring his absence. On June 22, 1951 Mary and Vernon "Swede" Johnson were married in Merriman. Swede died as the result of a ranch accident in 1953. She moved to Gordon and was the City Clerk for 20 years. Mary was a longtime member of the Grace Lutheran Church. She loved flowers and was an enthusiastic and very active member of the Flower and Garden Club. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Eight and Forty, which she was Post President. Mary belonged to the Library Round Table, Social and Improvement Club and the Countryside Care Volunteer Auxiliary. Srvices were held at the Grace Lutheran Church, April 30, 1998 at 2 p.m. Interment was at the Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Cody. Chamberlain-Cicmanec was in charge of funeral arrangements. Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Paul Metzger; sister-in-law Irene Nelson of Scappoose, OR; six nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her father and mother; sister Anna Weber; brothers Authur, Oscar and John Nelson; nephew Nelson Paul Metzger and niece Ruth Nelson Laidler. Flowers may be sent or a memorial has been arranged at the Grace Lutheran Church, PO Box 239, Gordon, NE 69343. She will be greatly missed.

Harriett Roberta Welker, b. 1914 d. 1998
Harriett Roberta Welker, 84
Roberta was born July 27, 1914 in the Sandhills south of Gordon, to Albelrt and Harriett Baird Macumber. Roberta pased away Nov 4, 1998 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Roberta attended grade school in a one room school south of Gordon, attended high school in Gordon and graduated with the class of 1933. On March 29, 1937 she was united in marriage to Thomas Ray Welker at Rushville. They made their home in the Sandhills where they were blessed with two sons and a daughter. Roberta was a very loving and caring wife and mother. She was grandma to many little boys and girls who knew her. She was always a great homemaker, loving to do her fancy work to give to her family and friends. She would cook up goods for everybody. There was never a time that she didn't put her family and friends first. She enjoyed teaching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to cook. She loved planting trees and flowers. Roberta was preceded in death by parents, three brothers and husband of 49 years. She is survived by one sister, Grace Geise of Underwood, Iowa, two sons; R.E. of Billings, Mont., Dean and wife Eldine of Kilgore, one daughter Wava Jean Eberly and husband Gary of Cody and sister-in-law Betty Macumber of Norfolk. She is also survived by four grandchildren; Tammy Clem, Belle Fourche, S.D., Mike Welker, Robin Darnell of Harrisburg and Jo Jean Vogh of San Angelo, Tex., eight great-grandchildren and a host of friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Service for Roberta was held Monday, Nov. 9, 1998 at Hunt's Chapel in Cody at 11 a.m. with Rev. Sherry Sklenar officiating. Interment followed at Gordon City Cemetery. Sandoz Chapel of the Pines was in charge of the arrangements.

1999

MALMBERG, MYRON "MACK" L.
"Midland News," November 24, 1999
Myron "Mack" L. Malmberg was born September 1, 1931 to Gustav Elmer and Lillian Elizabeth (Bloom) Malmberg at the family home in Pender. Mack passed away November 7, 1999 at Chadron Community Hospital. Though born a farmer, Mack left Pender in the mid fifties to fulfull a life's dream of riding his horse across more than 80 acres that was not fenced. After a short stop at Atkinson to work on a ranch for Charlie Petersen he moved on west to the Brandeis ranch, south of Nenzel where he worked for his uncle, Emil Malmberg. He then followed Emil to the Dan Hill ranch south of Gordon where he met Jerri Hartman. They were maried at Craig, February 17, 1963 and made their home on the Three Bar Ranch, formerly the Brandeis, now working for Willis Ravenscroft. During the ten years at Three Bar, two daughters, Robin and Lisa were born. After church during the summer, Mack would attend a roping club at a neighboring ranch and won belt buckles in calf roping and team roping. The spring of 1973 they moved to a ranch near Mobridge, SD and lived there almost a year. For Mack it was too far from the sandhills of Nebraska which had won his heart years before. With no job at the time, Jerri and the girls lived with Jerri's parents in Gordon for two weeks before settling on the West Ranch southwest of Ashby. It was there Eric was born on December 13, 1975. Mack's children were his pride and Robin and Lisa would help with working cattle when needed. The spring of 1977 found the family moving again to the Hill place. Mack had made a full circle when he returned to Hill. During thirteen years as foreman the girls graduated from Gordon High School, met their future husbands, marry and go their own ways. He welcomed four of the six grandchildren while residing there. In 1990, Mack felt the need to try things on his own and leased the Johndreau place north of the Niobrara River, south of Gordon. This was his home for the next six and half years. Cattle prices did not cooperate and he took a position on a place north of Whitney. Jerri chose to move north of Gordon at this time to continue her employment in Gordon. It was lonely for Mack at Whitney and in November he moved back to Gordon and worked for Moursand Cattle Co. Due to health problems, he spent the last year of his life living in Hay Springs with Robin and her family occasionally visiting at the homes of Eric and Lisa which gave him the opportunity to ride again that he so lived. Mack taught himself to play the accordion while still living at Pender and music was as much a part of his life as cows and horses. He could never say NO to his children so there was always dogs and cats, sometimes maybe more than needed. When Mack was around there was laughter, fun and music. Survivors include son Eric and fiancee, Jennifer Kelly of Gordon, daughters and son-in-laws Robin and Loren Wilson of Hay Springs, and Lisa and Marlon Reed of Hyannis; brothers Ray Malmberg of Reedsport, Oreg., and Charlie Malmberg of Pender; sisters, June Larson of Stromsburg, and Genevieve Malmberg of Coleridge and six grandchildren. Funeral services were held November 11, 1999 at 10 a.m. at Pleasant Point Chruch south of Gordon with Rev. Vonne Blessman-Andersen officiating. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery south of Gordon. Honorary pall bearers were Gary Benson, Don Baker, Cliff Andre, Link Thompson, Lowell Rosfeld and Alan Simonson. Pallbearers were Robert Russell, Fred Russell, Dan Leggett, Ken Gibson, David Russell and Larry Kearns. A memorial has been established for Tri-State Old Cowboys Association. Donations may be sent to Security First Bank at Hay Springs. Chamberlin-Gates Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

SLATER, GEORGIA RAYE (NERN)
Gordon Nebr. -1999
November 5, 1905, was a special day for Felix and Mary Magdalene (Mae) Nern of Newcastle, NE. Their daughter Georgia Raye was born that day in their farm home. Now, having lived a full life of 93 years, Raye, as she was known by, graduated to heaven February 5, 1999. While she was a small child, Felix and Mae moved to the sandhills south of Gordon, NE. Raye graduated from Gordon High School in 1923. On her mother's birthday, July 3 of that year, Raye became the bride of William Orin Slater. They were married at Sheridan County Courthouse by Judge Dorr. To this marriage of 52 years, three sons were born; Donald Orin Slater, Stanley Raye Slater and William Maurice Slater. Raye said, "Jesus added a blessing when my niece, Nina Gwynn Aryes, came to live in our home." Raye accepted Christ into her heart during a revival meeting at a country schoolhouse on June 5, 1932. "That was the happiest day of my life," she emphatically believed. She was baptized in the Niobrara River by Pastor R. A. Gemany. Raye and Orin worked hard with her parents on the Hill Ranch in the sandhills. She was a cook for the ranchhands, baking many loaves of bread every week, preparing three full home cooked meals each day. During her years of life, Mrs. Slater cooked more than 80,000 meals, often in large quantities. After many years on the ranch, they moved to their home on Elm Street in Gordon. Raye was very active in the Gordon Church of God and in the Midwest Bible School, held by the church in its early years. She always taught Sunday School, cooked for youth camps, loved and taught the Bible to the parishioners of the Gordon Indian Mission and Wounded Knee, SD families. Raye was a faithful prayer warrior and student of the Bible. The Bible was her guidebook for life. All her adult years people called to have her pray for them. She enjoyed singing also. After her husband Orin's death, Raye moved to Houston, Texas, in 1976. She taught Jesus' love to children in Sunday School, waw a team captain for the Houston First Church of God prayer chain, served on the Missions Committee and counseled many families. The church family tenderly called her "Grandma." Her son, Maurice, lived nearby and lovingly cared for her and her home for the next 20 years. A few years ago, Raye moved to Tennessee Colony, Texas. She shared a home with her niece and family, Nina and Paul Ayres. They've enjoyed rich fellowship. Happy for having shared her life are her sister, Faye Baker and husband, Harry, Lusk, WY; son, Stan Slater and wife Bunni, Lompoo, CA; son, Maurice Slater and wife Marlys, Oklahoma City, OK; daughter-in-law, Ella Slater, Scottsbluff, NE; niece, Nina Ayres and husband Paul, Tennessee Colony, TX; seven grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends. Raye was preceded in death by her parents Felix and Mae Nern; husband Orin; son Don; sisters Grace Skanadore and Laverne Gwynn; half-brother Lee Meyers and wife Maude.

Shirley J. Maddox Sandage b. 06-02-1919 d. 11-30-2000
Shirley J. Maddox Sandage was born 06-02-1919 in Gordon, Ne. to W.C. and Bessie (Fisher) Maddox. She died 11-30-2000 at Gordon, NE. Shirley was a life long resident of Gordon and a housewife. She married Bernard Sandage. Survivors are Bernard Sandage, daughters, Rhonda and husband Frank Ferguson of Gordon, Kathie and husand Lance Biixby of Ellsworth, SD, Glenna and husband Gary Haller of Weatherford, Tx, six granchildren and one great grandchild. Services were held Saturday, 12-02-2000 at 10:00 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Gordon with Rev. Vonne Blessman Andersen officiating. Burial was in the Gordon Cemetery in Gordon NE.

Agatha Lucille Trout Groves b. 02-04-1919 d. 04-21-2000
Agatha Lucille Trout Groves was born 02-04-1919 to Raymond "Smokey" and Juanita Lyons Trout in Johnstown, NE and departed this life 04-21-2000 at the Good Samaritan Care Center at Alliance, NE. She attended school at Johnstown, graduating in 1937. She married her high school sweetheart, Clarence Groves on 08-04-1939 at Long Pine, NE. Three children were born to them, Sandi, Carolyn and Steve. She fought a lengthy battle with cancer. Those left to mourn are her husband of 60 years, Clarence of Merriman, NE, Sandra Lucille Shanks and her husband Glen of Gordon, NE, Carolyn Marie Hand and husband Jim of Grand Island, NE, and Steve Douglas Groves of Larchwood, IA., sister Mickie Vikre of O'Neill, NE, sisters-in-law Charlot Blair of Hill City, SD, and Carol Groves of Chadron, NE, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many neices and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday 04-25-2000 at the Gordon United Methodist Church with Pastor Nita Gelling Cloran and Rev. Jon Craig officiating. Interment was at the Gordon Cemetery.

Denise Kay Woodrun b. 07-11-1967 d. 07-07-2000
Denise Kay Woodrun was born 07-11-1967 at Denver, CO to Merle and Alice Hiemerman Mennenga. She died 07-07-2000 at the Gordon Hospital. She was 32 years old. Denise grew up in Parker, Co., the youngest of three girls. She attended school in Parker and graduated from Ponderosa High School. She later attended Colorado State University. On 06-27-1987, Denise was united in marriage with Jon Woodrum at Parker. She worked for an insurance company in Colorado for the first several years of her marriage, until they started their family. Four children, Meggan, Katelyn, Kelli and Nathan were born to Denise and Jon. In 1990, Denise and Jon moved to a ranch mear Merriman, NE. Survivors include her husband, Jon, their four children of Merriman, her parents Merle and Alice Mennenga of Mesquite, NV, her sisers, Jody Cox of Longmont, CO. and Tracie Ireland of Mssion Viejo, CA. Mass of Christian Burial was Monday 06-12-2000 at St. Leos Catholic Church. Interment was at Gordon Cemetery.

Helen Jean (Goslin) Parker b. 31 Dec 1912, d. 29 Jun 2000
Helen Jean Parker born 12-31-1912 on the family farm south of Millboro, SD to Percy Ek and May Bell Ellis Goslin. She died 06-29-2000 at Gordon Countryside Care at the age of 87. Helen attended country schools in South Dakota and Nebraska and graduated from Merriman High School. She later received her teaching degree from Chadron State College. Helen married Allen Parker, Aug 26-1931 at her parents home, the Old Coffee Ranch west of Merriman. To this union were born 4 children, three sons and a daughter who died in infancy. She was preceded in death by a daughter Marilyn, her parents, three brothers, Charles, Max and Tony, and one sister, Blanche (Bea) Buchan. She leaves to mourn her husband of 68 years, Allen, sons Howard (Jean) of rural Gordon, David (Rosalyn) of Albuquerque, NM, Larry "Pike" (Dian) of Phoeniz, AZ, brothers Ellis Goslin of Lacey, WA. Ralph Goslin of Jacksonville, FL, Stan Goslin of Portales, NM , 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Monday July 3, 2000 at the United Methodist Church at Gordon with Rev. Nita Gelling Cloran and Rev. Vonne Blessman Anderson officiating. Interment was in the Gordon Cemetery.

Jack Sheldon Coder, b. 25 Mar 1920, d. 2 Aug 2000, WW II veteran
Jack Sheldon Coder, 80, of Gordon, NE was born 03-25-1920 in Cherry County, NE. His parents were Howard Coder and Bessie L. Sawtell Coder. He passed away 08-02-2000 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

He was a veteran of the Army. After that Jack Coder was a ranch hand in the Gordon area.

Graveside services was held Saturday, August 05, 2000 at 10:00 am at the Gordon Cemetery with Am. Leg. Chaplin Willard officiating.

Survivors are: 1 brother Clarence and wife Doris Coder of Pierre, SD, 2 sisters, Alice Myers of Gainsville, Ga. and Helen and husband Floyd Downing of Greeley, Co and special friend Rita Marie Schmidt, 3 neiceses and 3 nephews, 3 great nieces and 3 great nephews.

The burial was held in the Gordon Cemetery in Gordon, NE. A memorial has been established for Gordon Memorial Hospital or Gordon Rescue Unit.
