BRICE, AUGREY L.

Aubrey Lynn Brice was born Aug. 27, 1907, to Charlie and
Nettie Carney Brice at Columbus and died at his home on
May 17, 1981, after a long illness, at the age of 73
years, eight months and 20 days. When a small boy, he
lived with his parents at Glen Elder, Kan., later moving
to Gordon in 1913 with his three brothers and two
sisters. He remained in the Gordon area working on
various ranches until about 1951. At this time he moved
to Rapid City, S. D., and worked for Peter Kewitt
Construction Co. until his retirement. He was married
Dec. 14, 1927 to Margaret Ann Coucher. One daughter
blessed this union. In 1972 they moved to Lawrenceburg,
Ind., where his wife died in 1974. He was also preceded
in death by his father and mother, three brothers, Ralph,
Gerald, Tom, and two sisters, Mona and Norma. On August
7, 1976 he married Winnie Burch of Gordon and moved back
to Gordon weher he spent his ramaining years. He spent
much of his time fishing, camping and being out-of-doors.
He was also a member to the Tri-State Cowboys
association. He is survived by his wife, Winnie of
Gordon; his daughter Bama and husband, Tom Glenn and two
grandchildren, Chad and Melanie Glenn, all of
Lawrenceburg, Ind., also three stepchildren, LeToy
Heermann and Gary Burck of Gordon and Jeanie Burck of
Hanford, Cal. Also surviving are cousins, many nephews,
nieces and a wide host of friends. Pallbearers were John,
William and Aubrey Leach, Gene and John Brice and Bob
Coon. Honorary pallbearers were Dick Louks, Norman
Merrill, Archie Secrest, Louis Schmitt, Orville Ostrander
and Andy Anderson. A memorial has been established at the
Gordon State Bank.

WINTERS, GLADYS
Gordon Nebr. -1984
Gladys Winter, daughter of Anson Goodnough and Mina Love
Goodnough, was born December 21, 1900 in Rawlins,
Wyoming. She died October 6, 1984 at the Chadron
Community Hospital in Chadron. Gladys was united in
marriage January 26, 1921, at Gordon, Nebraska to Richard
Wesley Winters. To this union was born a son, Richard
Anson. They lived south of Gordon on the ranch until
their retirement in 1952 at which time they moved to
Gordon. In 1963 Richard and Gladys moved to Chadron to
care for Gladys' elderly uncle, where they were residing
at the time of her death. She will be missed by her
family and friends and be remembered for her loving care
and concern for others. Survivors include her husband,
Richard Wesley, son Richard Anson of Crawford, Nebraska
and one grandson, Wesley of Rapid City, South Dakota. She
was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson.
Services were held Wednesday, October 10, 1984, at 2 p.m.
at the United Methodist Chruch in Gordon with Rev. Cole
Fowler officiation. Interment was in the Gordon Cemetery.
Chamberlain-Gates Mortuary of Gordon was in charge of
arrangements.

KRZYZANOWSKI, SEKFRET F.

Gordon, 1985
Sekfret F. Kryzanowski was born October 13, 1901, in
Prairie View, Kansas, the son of Sekfret and Catherine
Petzold Krzyzanowski. At an early age, Sef's parents
moved the family to Nebraska. He was married in 1924 to
Gladys Lein and to this union was born a son, James. Sef
and Gladys lived north of Gordon for 57 years where they
were engaged in ranching and farming. He was preceeded in
death by a brother, Tony, a sister, Anna Russell, and 2
infant granddaughters. He is survived by his wife,
Gladys; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Betty
Kryzanowski; their three sons, Keith, Kevin, and Kirk;
two sister, Kate Borders of Gordon and Ida Petzold of
Valentine; and one brother, Fred Krzyzanowski, also of
Valentine. Funeral services were held January 4, 1985 at
the First United Methodist Chruch of Gordon, Ne, with the
Rev. F. Cole Fowler officiating. Burial was in the Gordon
Memorial Cemetery.

PARKHURST, COLLEEN LORRAINE
"Valentine News," February 20, 1985
Colleen Lorraine Parkhurst was born May 23, 1929 in
gordon, Nebraska to Eugene and Bessie Knudsen and she
passed away February 14, 1985 in Omaha, Nebraska, at age
55. Colleen grew up and received her education in Gordon.
On june 3, 1850 she was married to Darrel Parkhurst in
Valentine, Nebraska. To this union five children were
born: Patty, Gene, Kenneth, Sharon and Tena. Colleen was
a member of the United Methodist Church in Valentine. A
housewife and mother, she was a friend to many. She
enjoyed making afghans and other crafts and derived the
most pleasure from giving them as gifts. Colleen was
preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Patty.
She is survived by her husband, Darrel of Valentine, two
sons, Gene, wife JoAnn and daughters, Tanya, Tammy and
Teri Parkhurst of Valentine; and Kenneth, wife Kim and
son Jady Parkhurst of Minden, Nevada and two daughters,
Sharon and Tena of Valentine. Funeral services were held
Monday, February 18, 1985 at 2:00 p.m. at the United
Methodist Church in Valentine, Rev. Robert Favre
officiating. Interment was in Gordon Cemetery in Gordon,
Nebraska. Sandoz Chapel of the Pines was in charge of
funeral arrangements.

GWYNN, FAY M.
Cody-1987
Faye Mary Gwynn, 81, of Cody, died Tuedsay, Jiune 30,
1987, at the Gordon Memorial Hospital. She was born Jan.
12, 1906 at Newton, Neb., to the late Clyde and Maude
Kime and was a lifelong resident of Cherry County. She
was a ranch wife, and had lived in Cody since 1939. She
married Charles Edward Gwynn, who died in 1980. Her
survivors are three daughters, Dorothy Schied of Cody,
Marjy Milliken of Huron, S. D., and Clara Empkey of
Lincoln; a sister, Annie Egli, Gordon; and four brothers,
Archie, Walter, Harold and Glenn Kime, all of Gordon.
Mrs. Gwynn was a member of the Methodist Church and
American Legion Auxiliary. Funeral services will be held
Friday at 10a.m. at the Methodist Church in Gordon, with
the Rev. Frank Kiertley officiating. Burial will be in
the Gordon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Cody of
Gordon Methodist Church. Chamberlain-Gates Mortuary of
Gordon is in charge of arrangements.

HINTON, FRED
Gordon Nebr. -1988
Fred George Hinton, son of Frederick and Bessie Hauver
Hinton, was born June 2, 1917, at the ranch south of
Cody, Nebraska. He received his education in the Cody
school system and Chadron State College. He then
continued his association with his parents in their
ranching operation at Cody. He was joined in marriage
December 26, 1974, to Lois Carol Hull at the United
Methodist Chruch at Gordon, Ne. After 65 years on the
ranch, Fred chose retirement and leased his land and
lived for 3 years in Cody. They then moved to Gordon
where they lived for 5 years until the time of his death.
He was a member of the Stockgrowers, Tri-State
Cattleman's Association and a Charter Member of the
Nebraska Cattleman's Association. Fred suffered a heart
attack and passed away July 22, 1988, at the Gordon
Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Lois; his
step-daughters, Candy Goodrich and her husband Gary,
Patty Faulk and her hasband Jerry; six grandchildren,
Crysta, Danielle, Kylie and Raegan Faulk and Bobbie and
Brent Goodrich, all of Gordon; his sister, Claudine Gwynn
and her husband Tom; his niece Sandy Sawdey and her
husband Frank; and his great nephew Scott Sawdey all of
Longmont, Colorado. Fred will always be remembered as a
good cattleman and rancher. He was an excellent steward
of the land and conservationist. Above all he was a very
loving husband, brother, step-father and friend. The
funeral service was conducted at the First United
Methodist Church of Gordon, Nebraska, with Rev. Morris
Cogin and Father Carl Ferris officiating. Burial was in
the Gordon Cemetery.

SAMUELSON, JOHN M.
"Valentine News," March 22, 1989
John Martin Samuelson, son of Ernest Martin and Mamie
McMullen Samuelson was born February 13, 1918 at Grant,
Nebraska and departed this life March 10, 1989, at the
age of 71. In 1920 he moved with his parents to
Rushville, NE, where he entered the Rushville Elementary
Schools and graduated from the 8th grade in 1933. He had
one sister, Marjorie Maxine, who was born at Grant in
1916 and passed away in 1927 at the age of eleven. His
father was superintendent of schools at Madrid, Grant,
Rushville and Cody, NE. He moved with his parents in 1933
to Cody, NE, where he entered Cody High School and
graduated in 1937. He lettered all four years in
football. He also played baritone horn in the high school
band. John attended Chadron State Teachers College for 3
1/2 years and played Baritone horn in the College band.
He joined the Army February 10, 1941 as a regular and
played in the famous Regimental 4th Cavalry Band. He
later transferred out of the band for line duty. He
served in the European Theater of Operations and earned
three Bronze Stars. He received his honorable discharge
from the Army on October 15, 1945. He worked as a
custodian in the Cody, Ne Public Schools for 3 1/2 years.
Later he attended the Nebraska State School at Milford
and graduated with a diploma in shoe repair and
orthopedics. He owned and operated a shoe repair business
in Bassett for 6 1/2 years. He played baritone horn in
Chet Stockwell's band. He moved to Valentine February 1,
1856 and worked for Young's Western Wear until he retired
in 1986. He played baritone horn in Valentine's
Centennial Band. John was baptized in the Congregational
Church in 1944 while in the Army and later transferred
his membership to the Valentine Methodist Church. He was
District Deputy Grand (4 times) of the I. O. O. F. He
belonged to the Valentine Lodge I. O. O. F. #205 and was
an associate member of Bassett Lodge #242. He held the
rank of Retired Captain of Canton Lodge #29. He was past
Chief Patriot of Encampment #76 and a member of the
Rebekah Lodge #168. He belonged to the V. F. W., American
Legion and D. A. V. Preceding him in death were his
parents and one sister. Services for John Samuelson were
held Wednesday, March 15, 1989 at Sandoz Chapel of the
Pines in Valentine with Rev. Richard M...? officiating.
Interment in Rushville, Nebr.

KERNS, MARY MAGDELINE
Rushville Nebr. -1989
Mary Magdeline Kearns died on Tuesday, March 21, 1989 in
Scottsbluff, Neb. of cancer. She was born March 2, 1916
in Gordon, Neb. to Frank and Lavern (Nern) Gwynn. She
graduated from St. Mary's Catholic high school in 1933.
She was untied in marriage to John Kerns on May 23, 1934.
To that union seven children were born. Mary was a member
of the Altar Society and the Eureka Club. She taught CCD
for many years. In addition to being a housewife and
mother, she was a talented seamstress and enjoyed many
crafts. She always had a special place in her heart for
children, especially her grandchildren. She was preceeded
in death by her parents, half brother Charles Gwynn and
infant grandson, Stephen Kearns. Survivors include her
husband John of Rushville, 2 sons, Jim of Salt Lake City,
Utah and Tom of Rushville; 5 daughters, Joan Werner of
Wheatland, Wyo., Doris Carlson of Scotia, N. Y., Carol
Kearns of Oceanside, Ore., Ruth Ziegler of Clarks, Neb.
and Corrine Emory of Salt Lake City, Utah; 2 brothers,
Jim Gwynn of Gordon, Neb. and Tom Gwynn of Longmont,
Colo.; a sister, Nina Ayers of Colorado; 21 grandchildren
and 10 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held
Monday, March 27, 1989 at Immaculate Conception Church in
Rushville with Father Alex Borzych officiating. Burial
was in Fairview Cemetery.
