DONATIONS TO THE LIBRARY

Loren and Leah Moore of Upland, CA donated the following 2 publications:

PIONEER TALES OF THE NORTH PLATTE VALLEY AND NEBRASKA PANHANDLE is a 288 page hard bound book with index. A reprint of the book published in 1938. A chronology from 1812 to 1937 take up 2 pages. The counties of Scotts Bluff, Banner, Box Butte, Garden, Sioux, Dawes, Kimball, Deuel, Cheyenne and Morrill are mentioned along with family anecdotes, reminscentes and incidents.

SEVENTY FIFTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FIRST METHODIST CHURCH 1888-1963 GERING NE, a 44 page booklet has the history of the church, its organizations, list of pastors and many photos of new church building, teachers, 1938 & 1963 confirmation classes, etc.

MACON HISTORY 1872-1997 IN THE HEART OF FRANKLIN COUNTY donated by the editor, Norma Steinkruger of Franklin, Ne, a 355 page spiral bound book, is the 125 year history of the town, its churches and school, homestead applications for Macon and Logan Townships, listing name, date of application and section number. School census records from 1876 to 1950 for 7 school districts, list name of child, parents, age, sex, school district number and land address; burials recorded from 3 cemeteries showing name, birth and death date and additional information like parents, spouse and marriage. There are 180 pages of family histories with many photos, short biographies of early settlers, newspaper abstractions from 1895 to 1930 and memories of local citizens.

1997 DIRECTORY OF FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH BEATRICE NE, is a 44 page soft Cover book of church history, list of pastors and associate pastors, colored photos of staff and members with names and addresses of the church families.

125 YEARS OF THE FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH 1872-1997 Beatrice NE a 28 page soft covered book has a decade of founding, early revivals, organizations, building, church school, growth, rebuilding, world outreach, decision, restructure and the present church. Many photos of buildings, pastors and staff along with a listing to Timothys.

Anna Kotas of Milligan, NE donated the following 2 items:

1996 FILLMORE COUNTY AUTO LICENCE DIRECTORY 76 pages of names not in alphabetical order.

1972 FILLMORE COUNTY PLAT BOOK 18 page soft bound book of large township maps showing land owners, cemeteries, etc.

MINNESOTA DEATHS FROM CZECHOSLOVAK BRETHEREN PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH 1917-1927 donated by Margie Sobotka of Elkhorn, NE, a 34 page spiral bound book with index contains the death notices found in the periodical Christian Journal published by the Czechoslovak Bretheran Presbyterian Church. This publication has the original notice published in Czech along with the transolation. A short history of the Silver Lake Church at Silver Lake, MN is included with pictures of ministers.

Donations Continued:

PHELPS FAMILY NEWS 14 issues of a family newsletter from 1992 to 1997 published by the Phelps Family Association of America in Camden, SC. Not a complete listing. Each issue has a listing of Phelps taken from the American Index Series of the Family History Library at Salt Lake and the International Genealogical Index from the same place.

KEIFFER FAMILY NEWSLETTER a 2 page publication published twice a year in Bellflower, CA. This one features George Keiffer and Mary Catherine Armentrout Keiffer and their 8 children.

THE RICHARD GANO LATTING SR FAMILY INCLUDING THE LATTING FAMILY donated by Joseph Baggett Latting of Austin, TX, a 309 page large hard bound book with index, begins with Richard Sr., born in AK in 1825 and died in 1908 in OK but buried in Miss. and continues with his 10 children. This book contains 65 pages of Latting Family published in 1871. Many stories, maps, charts, photos, newspaper articles etc. make up the book.

THE CHASE/CE FAMILY donated by the compiler, Wilda Virginia Reeder Christensen of Surprise, AZ, a 437 page spiral bound book with index to Volume I and II along with references) is the compilation of the Descendants of William Chase and Mary Hammond of England who came to America in 1630. Ginger lived ten years in England doing research. Nebraska connections are in Stanton and Dodge Counties.

OUR WHEELER FAMILY donated by the compiler, Marshall R. Wheeler Ph.D. of Austin, TX, a 242 page soft cover bound book with surname and assigned number indexes, has the Wheeler name spelled various ways, tells the story of three brother John, William and Richard, leaving England to come to Baltimore in America in 1680. All sorts of Wheelers are recorded in story, photos, maps, documents, etc.

TICHENOR FAMILIES IN AMERICA donated by the author, Harold A. Tichenor of Napton, MO, a large 742 page hard bound book with index, code and sources, has charts with short stories. The descendants of 16 families in NJ, WV, VT, IN, OH, NY, and MI make up the book.

1997 FEDERATION OF GENEALOGICAL SOCIETIES MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY a 539 page soft bound book with geographical membership list and alphabetical membership list. Each member society has a page of information available to the public like officers, periodicals, publications etc. NSGS is in the alphabetical list but is not a member.

NATIONAL SOCIETY SONS & DAUGHTERS OF THE PILGRIMS Volume VI / donated by the society, a 385 page hard bound book with index, includes lineage applications number 9770 to 10278 which contain name, place of birth, marriage date, spouse and as many as 13 names of ancestors along with birth death,& marriage dates for the husband and wife. If a name is found in the index the complete application papers can be ordered from the Registrar General for $5.00. We have lineage books IV and V on the shelf that were also donated.

SEWARD COUNTY CEMETERY RECORDS - PRECINCTS H-J-K-L a 302 page spiral bound book with index has tombstone inscriptions from ten cemeteries with additional information of spouse, parents, unmarked grave etc. Maps of each cemetery are included.

CHECKLIST FOR OBITUARIES

According to the American Family Records Association this list of items should be included in obituaries. They make obituaries more helpful to persons researching family records. They need not appear as listed but should be included.

Name of deceased, preferably full name (first, middle and last) and any nicknames.
2.
Date of death by month and day, including year so when the clipping is cut from the newspaper the date is not lost.
3.
Address of deceased's last place of residence. Places of previous residences.
4.
Place of death, hospital, residence, highway, city or other identifiable location, state.
5.
Place, date and time of funeral service. Name of minister, if any.
6.
Visitation time and date, if held, and place.
7.
Name of cemetery where deceased is to be buried, or other disposition of remains.
8.
Date of birth, city county, state, country (if different than where died).
9.
Name of parents, including maiden name of mother.
10.
Name of spouse (with maiden name if female).
11.
Date and place of marriage if any.
12.
Church and organizations of which deceased was a member and offices held.
13.
Occupations of deceased and employer, if any, and offices held.
14.
Survivors: Children, including name and place or residence, name of spouse: brothers and sisters, including place of residence, name of spouse. Parents, numbers of grandchildren (may be named)
15.
Statement of those preceding deceased in death: include names or children, brothers and sisters.
16.
Names of pallbeareres.
17.
Name of funeral home. In some cases, a classified advertisement is placed under "Deaths and Funerals", depending on newspaper.
18.
Preference for memorial contributions in lieu of flowers if desired.
