DONATIONS TO THE LIBRARY:

DIXON NEBRASKA CENTENNIAL HISTORY 1890-1990, a 66 page spiral bound book, donated by the Dixon Community Improvement Committee, has the history of the village, churches, businesses, school etc. in story, pictures and maps with names of teachers and business owners through the years. A listing of residents from 1900 census is included.

THE CANONICAL CHURCH REGISTER OF CHRIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH, SIDNEY, NE 1890-1947, donated by Dorothy Holloway of Sidney, NE, a 112 page book in 3-ring binder, has a history of the church with lists of communicants showing name, moved or transferred; baptisms show name, birthdate and place with baptismal date; Confirmations show name, birthdate and place and confirmation date; Marriages show names, ages, date and place, place of residence, parents names and residence with names of witnesses; Burials with name, age, date of birth and death and place of interment. Each section has its own index.

RED WILLOW-FURNAS COUNTY MAP

A GRAVE BY THE TRAIL, a 6 page booklet explains the first burial in Cass County being Nathanial Brown Morris in 1854 south of Plattsmouth.

1978 RED WILLOW COUNTY LICENSE DIRECTORY, a 67 page paper back has name, town and vehicle license number.

NEBRASKA BICENTENNIAL BROADSIDE 1776-1976, an 18 page/paper back publication of the Nebraska Bicentennial Commission before its 200th birthday includes a Tribute to Dr. John Neihardt and short biographies of 15 non-salaried commissioners to the Bicentennial Commission. Many names of county chairmen and the official commissioners are listed.

SOMBRERO-1898 Yearbook of the University of Nebraska, donated by a deceased member, is a 300 page hard cover book with many photgraphs (sic), names, senior biographies and advertisements.

Dr. Joan S. Guilford, the author, of Orange, CA donated the next 2 books she published:

THE ANCESTRY OF DR. JAY PAUL GUILFORD Vol. I, a 995 page hard cover book with index goes back 9 generations to John Guilford who came to Mass. from Kent, England. Dr. J. P. 's father, Edwin, came to a farm in Hamilton County, NE where he was married and is buried. J.P. was born near Marquette, NE, attended medical school in NE and NY, served in the Army Air Corps, died in CA and is buried in VT. Short genealogies of many allied names are included.

THE MONROE BOOK, an 877 page hard cover book with index begins with history of the clan from its origin in Scotland to a settlement in New England and migration of Augustus Monroe west to Clay County, NE. He married twice, leaving 5 minor children at the time of his death in 1880 with burial at Harvard, NE. This book of 7 parts lists early immigrant Monroe's, foreign born, unconnected, black ones and Joel Monroe of Croyden, NH, the authors line.

The following 24 publications were donated from the collection of the deceased Prof. Hubert Arnold who was born in Lincoln, NE and died in California:

SANDHILL HORIZONS-A STORY OF THE MONAHAN RANCH & OTHER HISTORY OF THE AREA, a 420 page hard cover book with index tells the story of 14 year old James H. Monahan who came to the sandhills with his maternal grandfather, Christopher Abbott, in 1887 and established the Monahan ranch in Grant, Cherry and Hooker Counties in Nebraska. A history of the Monaghan/Monahan and Abbott Families is included with short biographies of employees and other ranches of the sandhills.

MARK HOPKINS-A SKETCH OF THE LIFE OF MARK HOPKINS OF CALIFORNIA, a 34 page hard cover book explains his ancestry, his trip by boat by way of the Horn to the gold Rush in CA where he went into business in Sacramento, returned to wed his cousin in NY, returned to Sacramento. He became involved with others in building an overland railroad from the East to the West. He died in 1878 leaving no children except by adoption.

CONTROVERSIAL MARK HOPKINS, a 257 page hard bound book is the history of Mark Hopkins, the great railroad magnate, from North Caroline who established rail lines to CA. Yet after his death in 1878 in Sacramento, imposters claimed his fortune.

SEARS GENEALOGICAL CATALOGUE, a large thick hard bound book begins with Richard Sears, the pilgrim born in 1590 and died in MA in 1676 shows 13 generations, Sears Cemetery inscriptions at Brewster, MA, the innovative index shows name, sequence number, birth and death date along with spouse or father's name.

OWEN FAMILY RECORDS, a 32 page soft cover booklet showing Ancient families, British, American of Royal descent, American in Revolution, prominent Americans, towns, census and religious Owens.

TARBOX, BLAYNEY AND ALLIED FAMILIES, copy of a 360 page book in a 3-ring notebook, contains the Tarbox family in England and America, The Ancestry of George Edward Tarbox, Jr., born in 1903. Blayney Family in Wales, Ireland and America.

MEMORIAL ADDRESSES ON THE LIFE AND CHARACTER OF LELAND STANFORD, a 126 page hard cover book, a senator from CA, was born in 1824 in NY and died in 1893 at Palo Alto. CA. His biographical sketch with funeral ceremony along with addresses by 8 senators and 9 House of Represenative members delivered in the Senate & House in 1893 & 1894

SETTLERS OF THE BEEKMAN PATENT, DUTCHESS COUNTY NY Vol. I, an 885 page hard cover book with index, describes the county being divided into Patents instead of townships or precincts like we have in NE. Many maps, names of officers, Revolutionary War, letters, diary Etc. make up the book. There is quite a genealogy on Henry Beekman.

EARLY SETTLER OF NEW YORK STATE-THEIR ANCESTORS AND DESCENDANTS. Vol. I of 916 pages in a card cover book with index is the original 9 volumes reprinted in 2. Names are taken from all sorts of sources, church, bible, deaths, marriages, census, cemetery, military etc. Volume II of 1069 pages with index has the same format.

DUTCHES COUNTY NY TAX LISTS 1718-1787, a 30 page hard cover book lists names with year in the 17 hundreds by wards, precincts and towns./

SOUTHERN DUTCHESS COUNTY NY TAX LISTS, 41 pages in a 3-ring binder includes South, Fredericksburgh, Philipse and Southeast Precints (sic), has an alphbetical listing of names with year in the 1770's.

CRUMELBOW TAX LISTS IN DUTCHESS COUNTY NY, 75 pages in a 3-ring binder includes the Precints (sic) of Nine Partner, Crum Elbow, Charlotte, Arnenia, Clinton and Washington.

BEEKMAN PATENT TAX LISTS IN DUTCHESS COUNTY NY, 65 pages in 3-ring notebook includes the North, Middle and South Ward, Beekman & Pawling Precincts.

FAMILY OF REV. PETER BULKELEY, a 1066 page hard cover book with index contains the Bulkeley Ancestry in England, Ancestry of Jane Allen Bukeley and Grace Chetwood Bulkeley, the Reverands two wives. The most of the book is the decendants of Rev. Peter Bulkeley who died in 1658 in Concord, MA.

HISTORY OF THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY REGION Volume III, a 416 page hard cover book consists of biographies and photos.

A SOUVENIR HISTORY OF SALEM OHIO 1806-1906, a 128 page hard cover book with pictures and references to people and things of the olden times including churches, schools, newspapers, industry, institutions, law, slavery etc.

A SHORT HISTORY OF OHIO LAND GRANTS, a 36 page paper back book explains the different lands on a map and in story. One section shows how Ohio counties got their name and year the county was created.

DENOMINATIONS ORIGINATING IN LANCSTER (sic) COUNTY PA, a 41 page paper back book explains the beginnings of 15 denominations in the county. Two were of Evangelistic groups but the rest were of the Mennonite groups.

MANHEIM, PA BICENTENNIAL 1762-1962, a large 176 page paper back book has history photos and advertisements.

GENEALOGICAL ATLAS OF ENGLAND AND WALES, an 86 page hard cover book published in 1960 is all maps of counties showing cities, parishes, rectories, dioceses, railroads, rivers, etc.

HOW TO TRACE YOUR FAMILY TREE by American Genealogical Research Staff, a 191 page paper back book is a complete guide for the beginner explaining local, state and federal records, organizing etc.

HOW TO TRACE YOUR FAMILY TREE by David Poteet, a 157 page paper back book explains how to begin, sources, common problems, tracing outside the U.S. with addresses and helpful books.

THE FRUIT OF THE FAMILY TREE, a 391 page hard cover book with index explains Heridity, Education, twins, cousin marriages, diseases inherited, Royalty, birth control, motherhood, etc. SURNAMES, a 31 page dictionary of one thousand common family names, their meanings and nationalities.

POPULATION MAPS OF THE COLONIES AND THE UNITED STATES 1625-1790 shows 12 maps.

JOURNAL OF AMERICAN GENEALOGY 1922, a 107 page quarterly with index published by the National Historical Society features many family coat-of-arms with short genealogies.

BOOKS PURCHASED BY THE SOCIETY:

A CENTURY OF FAITH-ST. ANNE'S PARISH CENTENNIAL 1893-1993 DIXON, NE, a 11- page spiral bound book is a history of the church, other churches associated with St. Anne's; baptisms and marriages, listing of burials in the church cemetery, list of present and past parishoners along with those who served in the military.

NEBRASKA CITY DIRECTORY 1964 including Otoe County Taxpayers, is a 263 page hard cover book listing businesses, residents and taxpayers.

KEARNEY CITY DIRECTORY 1950 of 285 pages is a hard bound book of household occupants, businesses and Buffalo County rural residents.

THE ARCHIVES - A GUIDE TO THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES FIELD BRANCHES, a 340 page hard cover book with index lists sources available by each National Records group found at the 11 field branches.

SCOTTS BLUFF COUNTY PROBATE INDEX 1887-1982, a 146 page spiral bound book has names in alphabetical order along with numbers which may be book and page number with letter for the kind of record it is.

WEST LAWN CEMETERY - GERING- SCOTTS BLUFF NEBRASKA 1887-1987 Volume I, a 132 page spiral bound book with index shows burials in alphabetical order with additional information from mortuary records besides the tombstone inscriptions. This book has the census of the original section.

WEST LAWN CEMETERY- GERING-SCOTTS BLUFF NEBRASKA 1887-1979 Volume II, a 117 page spiral bound book has census of the first addition and index to second addition with same information as above. The second addition section has only the name, block and lot numbers. No birth and death information.

THE NEBRASKA HOMESTEADER 1896-1901---THE MITCHELL INDEX 1901-1902 an 85 page spiral bound book with index to each section. Newspaper abstractions from each newspaper published in Gering, Nebraska.

OBITUARY INDEX 1978-1982, a 73 page spiral bound book contains obituary information of birthdate and place, issue of paper and page number with place of burial. This information was taken from newspapers in Scotts Bluff, Gering and Kimball.

MORTUARY REXORDS - BRIDEPORT-MORRILL COUNTY 1929-1975, a 224 page spiral bound book with index was compiled from 6 different books of mortuary records each listed seperately. A map showing the location of 11 cemeteries in the county is included.

WISNER-STEONG AND STEADFAST 1871-1996 125 YEARS, A 356 page hard cover book has history of the town, servicemen section, wedding pictures and 130 pages of family histories.

TENNESSEE GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH by Schweitzer, a 138 page paper back book lists the types and locations of records along with listings found in each county.

PENNSYLVANIA GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH by Schweitzer, a 227 page paper back listing same as above.

CIVIL WAR GENEALOGY by Schweitzer, a 76 page paperback book is a research guide for tracing your ancestors with sources and instructions for obtaining information from the Archives, National and State publications, local sources and military unit histories.

ANOTHER DONATION TO LIBRARY:

CRAB ORCHARD CEMETERY ASSOCIATION CENSUS, donated by Keith and Lorraine Lynch of Crab Orchard, NE is a 20 page booklet showing tombstone inscriptions along with other notes, list of lot owners, list of veterans and auxiliary members, burials from 1867 to 1880 and a list of burials in an abandoned cemetery.
