It is named Bohemian Pioneer Cemetery (1893) and is located on S22-T27-R52 and is 16 miles west and 2 miles south of Hemingford, NE. The few tombstones left there have the following names: PLANANSKY, CAHA, JANDA, POSVAR, KUDELKOVA and JUKEL. There are several more people buried there, but the stones aren't there anymore.
Catholic Cemetery is known as Lawn Cemetery and located on S17-T27-R51 and is 12 miles west o Hemingford, Ne. The St. Wencelaus Catholic Church was built on this location, but has been torn down several years ago. The Lawn Cemetery is fairly large and tombstones bear the names as: SHIMEK, KAPER, SOKOL, STUMF, SABALKA, DVOTRAKOVA, TLAMKA, MATOUSKOVA, JUHON, HOVORKA, NOVAK, MORAVA, BARTA, TUREK, WANEK, LOVELL, JOROS, McLAUGHLIN, BURS, WINTEN, NIKANT, BRANDLE, SCHNEIDER, BEHNER, MURPHY AND MANN. NEBRASKA ANCESTREE - WINTER VOLUME 16, No. - Page 93Abstracted from: The Red Cloud Nation, Thursday, May 25, 1899, Vol. IX, No. 13
A small article appeared in this paper a few weeks ago in regard to the McKEIGHAN monument, and next week the Nation will take up the work of this monument business and push it until the same is erected or it is fully demonstrated that the same cannot be done . . . .Sheriff WELLS returned home Tuesday after a week's absence in the northeast part of the county where he had been looking after stolen goods. He discovered the same at the store of W. H. LEETSCH of Rosemont. Mr. LEETSCH claimed to have bought the same of thieves but thought he had a right to. Mr. WELLS found the goods to the amount of $400 in his store, also goods in a straw stack about fives miles from town to the value of $250. Mr. LEETSCH then gave up the whole thing when the sheriff asked him to, and delivered him goods to the value of $50 which he still has in his possession. The bulk of goods were returned to the merchants from other little towns who were there to identify them.
The tenth annual commencement of the Red Cloud high school will be held in the opera house, Friday, June 2, at 8:30 p. m. Dr. Eugene MAY of Washington D. C. will deliver the class address. Dr. MAY. . . is a noted traveler and lecturer. . . There are twelve graduated of the regular course, and four that will complete all the work except the Latin. Of the latter four Myra GRIFFITH will continue her studies next year and graduate with the century class. Rev. DEAN will preach the class sermon Sunday morning, June 4, at the Congregational Church. Admission will be 15 cents. No extra charge for reserved seats. Seats will be placed on sale Tuesday morning, May 30, at (9:00) at GRICE's Drug Store.
A young fellow giving the name of F. F. FURGESON was driving past the farm of John H. BRUSH east of this city last week one day when a dog of Mr. BRUSH's attacked hi (sic), whereupon he shot and killed the dog. A tille (sic) trouble arose out of this affray and Mr. BRUSH took the revolvor (sic) from the boy. Young FERGUSON swore out a complaint for the arrest of Mr. BUSH, and the whole trouble was settled peacably (sic) by the advice of the Deputy County Attorney WILSON. This case would have been a bad mess for Mr. BRUSH to attept (sic) to fight, as in taking the gun be committed an act of robbery, and a peaceable settlement for him was a lucky deal. The boy dims (sic) to hive (sic) near Hebron, and says that he was on his way home.
The fusion forces have plenty of timber from which to select a candidate for district judge next fall. If they do not adhere to their avowed policy of opposing a third term in office, Judge BEALL will stand at the head of the list, but if they insist that two terms are all any one man is entitled to, Judge BEALL will be retired and will open a law office here in Hastings. With him out of the rase (sic) they will have at least three candidates to select from. They are Judge BATTY of this city, Judge Ed ADAMS of Holdrege, and Judge GARRET of Holdrege. Those three are already in the field and there are other counties to hear from. M. A. HARTIGAN of this city is said to be in the rase (sic). J. L. McPHEELY of Minden, and there is one and possibly two candidates down in the republican valley. Both parties will have a squabble among the candidates which will be both interesting and amusing ....... Hastings Record.
