Mrs. G. R. WAUGH entertained the JFF club. Following a luncheon at the Keystone, cards were played and honors were won by Mrs. L. O. STOLL, Mrs. Harry YATES and Mrs. WAUGH.

Miss Lucille HENNER and Mrs. Jas. ALLEN entertained at a birth party in honor of the birthday of Miss Janet GAARDE. Cards were played and prizes were won by Elaine DONNLEY, Mrs. Erma BAUER and Esther ELBERT.

Monday evening a farwell (sic) party honoring Mr. and Mrs. Eugene SHAW was held at the Baptist parsonage.

Donations:

CHAMBERLAIN REUNION AT WYNOT NE is a 20 page soft cover book listing the names of attendees for the reunions in the years 1940 to 1943. Many obituaries complete the book.

DONNER FAMILY donated by Mr. Shirley Donner of Lebenon, Oregon, a 20 page soft cover book, is the story of Mr. Donner, born in Idaho, moved to Nebr. where he went to school, served in WW II, returned to Nebr. but migrated to make his home in Oregon.

SAMUEL AND ELIZABETH (SLOAN) SNODDY WITH SOME RELATED FAMILIES donated by the author John H. Stutesman of San Francisco, CA is a 93 page hard bound book with index. The author used the notes made many years ago by a frontier woman about her mother's family to preserve that part of the Snoddy family who migrated from Ireland about 1748 and settled in North Carolina Piedmont.

THE HISTORY AND GENEALOGY OF THE FAMILY OF MILDRED WOODWORTH from the old colony of New Plymouth to Nebraska 1620-1920, donated by the author, Reverend Leopold H. Hoppe of Kansas City, MO, is a 250 page spiral bound book with index. Mildred Woodworth, a ninth generation descendant of Walter Woodworth, who came to New Plymouth Colony in 1634, was born in 1902 in IL where she married, moved to Omaha where she was widowed at the age of 35 remaining a widow till her death in 1990 with burial near her husband in Hastings, NE. This book has historical information as well as genealogical, photos and maps.

DESCENDANTS OF GEORGE AND MARY (BUSSANMUS) MILLER; FIRST CHILD OF JOHANN AND DOROTHEA (KIRCHNER) MILLER 1824-1992 a 216 page hard book was donated by the author, Patricia Wagner of Albion, NE. Johan Miller came to the U.S. in 1847 from Germany, settling in PA where he married, parenting 12 children and was buried in Warren County, Iowa. George Miller married in Warren County, IA, parenting 13 children is buried in Boone County, NE. Stories, Photos, documents and family charts make up the book.

FAMILY HISTORY OF AMOS WILLIAM TRAVIS OF VALLEY COUNTY NEBRASKA a 22 page spiral bound book with index, was donated by the author, Mary Luhrs of Gordon, NE was compiled for the reunion of granchildren of Frank and Mary Ann Travis. Amos, born in Penn., migrated to WI where he married Eunice Crocker, parenting 7 children, buried at Ord, NE. A hugh 8 generation family chart for Eunice M. Crocker, the wife of Amos, was born in 1827 in New York is included.

FAMILY ROOTS TIES AND TRAILS OF MILAM, STURGEON AND NIXON FAMILIES a 190 page hard bound book was donated by the author, Mary C. Sturgeon of Little Rock, AR. Family charts for Samuel Sturgeon show he was born in 1680 in Ireland, fathering 8 children. The oldest son, Samuel came to America in 1730 settling in Lancaster County, PA. Samuel Milam, born in Wales was married in 1724 in Lancaster County, VA, fathering 3 children. Abner Nixon, born in VA in 1777, married in SC, fathered 11 children and died in 1857 in MO. Stories and photos complete the book.

DESCENDANTS OF JOSIAH BULL JR (1738-1813) OF DUTCHESS COUNTY NY a 585 page hard bound book with a descendants index and spouse index, donated by the author, Mary E. Young of Santa Rosa, CA, is the first 5 generations of Josiah, born in 1763 in NY, the eldest of 9 children. Josiah had 13 children by his first marriage and 3 by the second marriage. Short stories, photos, maps and family charts accompany each descendants record. Descendants in Nebraska are from Bladen and Stromsburg.

BERRY BULLETIN, a 12 page quarterly newsletter, donated by the editor, Dorothy Koenig of Berkley, CA, has many queries free to anyone seeking or sharing Berry information, book reviews and letters and documentations. A free issue is available to anyone by writing to the editor whose address is available by writing the NSGS library but enclose a SASE for the answers

William Grier, Jr. of Denver CO donated the following 2 Family Histories:

THE GRIERS; PIONEERS IN AMERICA AND CANADA 1816-1991 a 413 page hard bound book with a name and subject index, is a succession of biographies and photos beginning with James Grier who emigrated from Northern Ireland to upper Canada where he married and had ten children. The other biographies are of the four children who moved to the United States to make their homes.

GRIER OF SAN FRANCISCO BUILDER IN THE WEST AND HIS FAMILY 1878-1988 a 320 page hard bound book with index, is the life history of William M. Grier, Sr. in the Spanish-American War, Phillippine Insurrection, 1906 San Francisco earthquake, the '29 Crash, the Great Depression and his involvement in oil, gold mining, real estate development and construction across the West. He was kidnapped a year before his death at age 57 in 1935 leaving his second wife to raise their two young sons alone.

KEMPER-FETTE FAMILY NEWSLETTER published in Lakewood, CO, is an 8 page publication telling of the Kemper Homestead in Seward Co. NE, reunions in Seward and Crete in Nebraska and California, along with "Memories".

THE LOW DUTCH COMPANY-"A History of the Holland Dutch Settlement of the Kentucky Frontier" is a 40 page soft cover book of articles reprinted from the Hollad (sic) Society magazine of history De Halve Maen including Henry County's Low Dutch Company. Many maps, documents and articles with names make up the book.

PLAT BOOK OF GREELEY COUNTY, NEBRASKA is a 20 page soft cover book showing an 1884 map of the county, two more recent maps and a map of each township listing the land owners.

Ellen DeVries of Lincoln, NE donated the following 2 items:

THE STORY OF THE METHODIST CHURCH OF SYRACUSE a 95 page soft bound book with index, explains the building of 3 churches along with the renovation of the present church. Many names are listed of the pastors, lay leaders, 1978 mambership, officers, memorials, classes and women societies.

HISTORY OF THE DUTCH SETTLEMENT IN LANCASTER COUNTY a 153 page copy of the original book published in 1938 describing the settlement of Holland, NE by Dutch who came from the provinces of Gelderland and Zeeland in the Netherlands, their custons (sic) and ethnic lifestyle.

CZECH NATIONAL CEMETERY- Clarkson NE donated by Bob Plisek of Norfolk, NE, a spiral bound book of 200 pages with index, has a history of the cemetery, 46 pages of maps by section and the tombstone inscriptions by plot. The index lists the names, plot number, section, row and page number.

MILLIGAN, A BOHEMIAN-AMERICAN VILLAGE donated by Rose Marie Hulse of Exeter, is a copy of the original 156 page book published in 1933 describes the life of the pioneer in education, language, politics, religion, economics, entertainment and community improvements.

1957 and 1970 OMAHA CITY DIRECTORIES donated by Miss M. Lillian Bedell of Omaha, NE are hugh hard bound book each containing a directory of householders, businesses with much other information.

CHAMBERS HELPING CHAMBERS Volume 2 #2 published in Minnesota

TEXAS STATE LIBRARY CIRCULATING GENEALOGY DUPLICATES LIST donated by that society library at Austin Texas, a 92 page soft cover book, will inter-library loan genealogy material from this catalog only to libraries not indiviuals (sic). Included in this list are duplicate books from other states, family histories, general information, tax rolls from many Texas counties to 1901 and birth and death indexes from 1903 to 1976.

Ernest Longfellow of Peru, NE, a 90 year old gentleman, donated the following two publications he wrote.

THE NORMAL ON THE HILL-One Hundred Years of Peru State College a 68 page soft cover book, is a history of the college, with a list of the presidents from its beginning in 1867 to 1967 along with photos of campus buildings and a map of the campus in 1967.

ACROSS THE WIDE MISSOURI-PERU NEBRASKA 1854-1991 a 186 page soft bound book is a history of the town and college, short stories of early people in Peru. An 1885 survey of owners of houses and their location is interesting.

Holdrege Area Genealogical Club donated the following 2 books:

PHELPS COUNTY CEMETERIES Volume II-Prairie Home Cemetery, a 193 page soft bound book lists the names in alphabetical order, birth and death dates, lot, division and remarks. Part II lists names of deceased taken from the Holdgrege (sic) newspaper death notices which would possibly be unmarked graves or buried elsewhere.

IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CEMETERY-Scandiavia Township-Harlan County, is a 14 page soft cover book with a history of the church that was moved to the Phelps County Museum. A short history of the cemetery along with the listing of the burials, dates, lot number and remarks.

SURNAME INDEX Volume 5 1990, donated by the Iowa Genealogical Society, a 352 page soft cover book listing in alphabetical order, the name, birthyear, death year marriage year and places with name of spouse and code number. A list of names and addresses for the code number are listed to write to for information.

HERITAGE OF CLARKS NEBRASKA 1862-1976 donated by Barbara Cowin of Ontario, CA, is a copy of the 184 page original book. It contains a history of the town along with burials in the Fairview Cemetery, 93 pages of biographies of pioneer personalities, interviews of elderly respected citizens and short histories of the defunk towns of Havens and Cattaragus

Georgene Sones of Omaha donated the following 11 items:

1980 PIERRE SD CITY DIRECTORY including Ft. Pierre and Hughes County Taxpayers.

POPULATION SCHEDULES 1800-1870 NUMBER 8 a 217 page paper back lists the census schedules by state and county. Earlies census for Nebraska is 1860 but many counties have different names than today.

TRACING AND TRACKING RESEARCH AIDS MAIL SERVIES AND INTER-LIBRARY LOAN FOR SMALL LIBRARIES AND HOMETOWN RESEARCHERS, a 41 page paper back book has information by state of publications, addresses of research places with their holdings.

Telephone Directories for the following:

NEWSPAPER ABSTRACTIONS FROM 1883 TO 1930 on microfiche, donated by the Nebraska State Historical Society in Lincoln from several Nebraska Newspapers listing names in alphabetical order with name and date of newspaper and code. There are 72 films.

SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH CENTENNIAL HISTORY 1887-1987 IN HAYES COUNTY was donated by Father Rand Langhorst of McCook, NE. This 74 page soft bound book is the history of a rural Catholic Church established by people of Czech descent in Section 19 of Thornburg Precinct southeast of Hayes Center. A list of priests, biographies arid photos of parishoners is included along with many photos of the churches, communicants, officers, etc. A cemetery is located nearby.

BOOKS PURCHASED BY THE SOCIETY

AN EARLY HISTORY OF CHERRY COUNTY a 195 page hard bound book with index, is the story of its organization, development and people. There is a short history of each of the 23 communities in the county plus the Virginia and German settlements.

PRE-STATEHOOD HISTORY OF LINCOLN COUNTY NEBRASKA a 149 page soft bound book with index is the territorial history of what became Lincoln County. Included is the 1860 Nebraska Territorial census and Mortality schedule, marriages, officers of Fort McPherson, county commisioners in 1860 and a list of all towns with their locations.

VISUAL HISTORY OF ALBION a 128 page hard bound book, is a pictorial history of the town with a short history.

PICTORIAL HISTORY OF GAGE COUNTY a 128 page hard bound book, has photographs from the earliest day to the 1920's of Beatrice landmarks, schools, churches etc. along with photos from each town in the county.

SEWARD CITY CEMETERY PLATS A-B-C-D a 283 page spiral bound book with index, lists the burials in each plot with additional information like age, relation, marriage, military, homesteader, cause of death, etc.

MORTON ALLAN DIRECTORY OF EUROPEON (sic) PASSENGER STEAMSHIP ARRIVALS a 268 page hard bound book, contains the passenger steamship compiled by the years 1890 to 1930 and indexed alphabetically by Steamship Line. The same is done for the years 1904 to 1926 at the ports of New York, Philadelphia, Boston and Baltimore. The port of arrival and port of departure are shown.

CLATONIA CENTENNIAL HISTORY 1893-1993 a 164 page hard bound book has 43 pages of town history and 118 pages of family stories in alphabetical order.

TRI-COUNTY PIONEERS THE FRONTIER DAYS HISTORY OF BOONE MADISON AND PLATTE COUNTIES a 304 page book with paper back cover, is a reproduction of the 1940 publication of biographies with many photos. There is an index to the biographies but not an all name index.

PLYMOUTH CENTENNIAL HISTORY 1892-1992 a 495 page hard bound book with an index of the family histories that are in alphabetical order. The history of the town is published in chronelogical order with histories of rural schools, churches, and cemeteries found in Plymouth, Gibson, Cub Creek and Jefferson Precincts. A list of veterans, high school alumni arid village officers are included.

OLD CATHOLIC BIBLE CONTENTS

In the summer of 1960 an old Catholic Bible (printed in 1884), was purchased in a pawn shop in Denver, Colorado.

Nothing is written in the Bible, the family sheets are all blank. But tucked in between the pages were three wonderful photos (no names, dates or places), a newspaper obituary for Susan Cline (Mrs. James) who died 22 June 1893. This bible seems to belong to descandants (sic) of James & Susan Cline. James died 29 Dec. 1887, Cass Co.,, Iowa and buried in the Evergreen Cemetery at Anita. they had eleven children, 6 boys and 5 girls. (one residing in Montana.)

The pictures are of an old man, the same man in a room with three sewing machines, which could have been a shoe repair shop. The last picture was taken on a ranch and shows pens of sheep.
