The cemetery markers are all broken and lying on a cement slab behind the country church. The church was built in 1880 and is still in use, sharing the minister of the Methodist Church in Silver Creek, The cemetery records book apparently is lost and there are indications of more graves. NEBRASKA CITY began in 1846 when the original Fort Kearny, a blockhouse, was built to serve as a fort. Before changing the name, the first postoffice was known as Table Creek. Nebraska City served as a gateway to the west and its courthouse is the oldest public building in Nebraska. Arbor Lodge State Park, located at the edge of town, was the home of J. Sterling Morton who served as Secretary of Agriculture in the 1890's as was the founder of Arbor Day.
