EARLY RESIDENTS OF BURT COUNTY, NE FROM BARRY CO., MICHIGAN

Jared Saaford ROGERS of Wm. D. & Mary (BAILEY) ROGERS was bon (sic) in New York 10 Feb 1809 and died in Ovid. N.Y. 24 July 1854. He is buried in Fuller Cemetery, Barry County, Mich.

He married in Covert, Seneca Co., N.Y. Louisa MILLER, dau. of Abraham and Sally (TOWNSEND) MILLER 8 Jan 1829. She was born in Covert 24 June 1813, died 11 Jan. 1896. Buried in Fuller Cem. Carlton Twp, Barry Co., Mich. Children:

1. Lorina ROGERS, born 1830, New York, married Henry BARNUM

2. Jeremiah ROGERS, b. Hector, Tompkins Co., N.Y. 17 March 1832, m. Betsie FUNSTER. Their dau. Millie m. Frank ANDRUS and moved to Lincoln, NE where they lived on Prescott Avenue.

3. Mary ROGERS, b. 1836 in N.Y. m. 10 May 1855 or 1858 in Barry Co., MI to W. B. NEWTON. He was born Chautauqua Go. N.Y. 24 July 1835.

4. Matilda ROGERS b. 1839 in Berry Co. MI. m. lst Aug. 1858, Peter ROLE b. in Chautauqua Co. N.Y. 18 June 1838.

5. Hiram ROGERS born ca 1842, married Lydia PILLSBURY

6. Henry Clay ROGERS, b. 11 Jan 1845 in Barry Co., MI. died 17 March 1928, Hastings, MI. m. 14 Feb 1867, Eliza Sands SISSON, dau. of Sanford SISSON Jr. She d. 24 June 1918. Buried Riverside Cemetery in Hastings, Michigan

7. Winfield Scott ROGERS, b. 1848 m. (1), (2), lived in Spokane, Washington.

8. Daniel Webster ROGERS, b. 5 Aug 1850. m. 6 Aug 1812 Harriett PARSONS.

Two of these families moved to Burt County, Nebraska at Arizona.

Welter B. NEWTON and wife Mary (ROGERS) NEWTON came to Nebraska shortly after they were married. She taught the first school in the county and he built the first store and was postmaster at Arizona. Their dau. Ella married J.F. ELLIS. He had a son Emmett.

Peter RORK and Matilda ROGERS came to Burt Co., NE was commissioner of the county for 6 terms and postmaster at Tekamah from 1898-1902. They had seven children. Some of whom were: Anna married ---- BAMBUR, Ella married John FISCHER, son of Daniel and Rosa FISCHER, 23 Dec 1898. Eva married Eugene SISSON. She died young and is buried in the Arizona cemetery.

After the Civil War Henry Clary ROGERS made two trips to NE from Barry Co. MI to work on the farm of his brother-in-law, W.B. NEWTON. He kept a diary, a copy of which is in the Nebraska State Historical Society.

*Sanford SISSON Jr.^7 of Sanford^6, Jebez^5 , Joseph^4, James^3, George^2, Richard^1, born 11 Mar 1815 in N.Y., died 3 Nov 1868 in Barry Co., MI. Married Catherine WOLCOTT 28 Oct 1840 in Huron Co. Ohio. She was born 23 Nov 1818 in Greene Co. N.Y. and died in Barry Co., MI 8 Aug 1910. Both are buried in the Fuller Cem. Carlton Twp, Barry Co. MI. Children were:

1. George W. SISSON born 1 Jan. 1842, died 2 Nov. 1868

2. Eliza Amanda SISSON born 19 March 1844 in Huron Co. OH, m. Henry Clay ROGERS, 14 Feb 1867

3. Edwin SISSON, b. 3 May 1846 in Huron Co. OH. m. Ursula CLOE, 2 May 1B69 in Barry Co. MI. She was born 22 Aug 1850, Hastings, MI. Died in 1927 in Takamah, NE. He d. 11 June 1923.

4. Julia Augusta SISSON b. Huron Co. OH, May 1848, d. July 1848

5. Eugene SISSON, b. Huron Co., OH 28 Dec 1849. M. (1) Eva RORK, dau of Peter & Matilda (ROGERS) RORK. m. (2) Emma SMITH.

6. Foster SISSON, b. 8 May 1852 in Huron Co. OH. M. 10 March 1875, Absenath LEACH.

7. Ella A. SISSON b. Huron Co. OH 8 July 1860 d. 3 Nov. 1868

Edwin SISSON moved to Nebraska about 1876. His first two children were born in MI. He had nine children and many descendants in the Tekamah area.

3. Evelyn SISSON m. Charles E. SHAPER

Edwin SISSON was in the 22nd and 23rd sessions of the State Legislature. That is 1893 and 1895. He was also County Commissioner 6 years and County Assessor 4 years

BOOK REVIEWS

HISTORY OF BEAVER CROSSING, NEBRASKA 1875-1975

Although the town was first platted and filed at the county seat in May of 1875, there are references dated back as far as 1863.

The book is as fine a history as this reader has ever read. It covers the school, businesses and churches from the day of their organization until 1975.

Churches included: Zion Evangelical Church, Church of Christ (Diciples of Dhrist) (sic), Methodist Episcopal, Sacred Heart Catholic, Mennonite Church, Church of God.

It is a Genealogists delight. The pages are loaded with names of persons who helped make the history of Beaver Crossing, NE.

The book is divided into chapters or sections pertaining to a specific part of the history. Exerpt from old newspapers, are included in each chapter which they pertain to.

The 200 page book has a table of contents but is not indexed.

ADOCK (sic) KINFOLKS, Families and Ancestors

by Robert McClane Adcock, 4720 Locust St. N.E. #204, St. Petersburg, Fla 33703, pub. 1980

This is family history going back to John ADOCK (sic), b. ca 1775. Has 566 pages; with pedigrees for the following allied families; ARLINE, BEDSORE, COWART, FEASTER, HUBBARD, ISBELL, KENNEDY, KILLEBREW, LEVERITT, McCALL, McCLANE, SELLERS, and SHANKS. There are approximately 600 family names to be found in a good index. The book is loaded with documents, obituaries, census records, many pictures, news paper stories and letters. The book had a Nebraska connection as Frankie ISBEL McCLANE was born at Benklemen, Nebraska in 1888. She married Albert Ford ADCOCK in 1905 in Ala.
