Mrs Peter (Jose) MOOMEY; Mrs. Peter MOONEY of Mason City, Nebraska, died most suddenly on Saturday, June 19, 1926, Nee Jane H. HAMLON, born at Stubbenville, Ohio, December 2, 1839. Came with her father's family to Iowa City, Iowa. Married at Iowa City, Iowa on February 5, 1858 to Peter MOOMEY;, who later died at Mason. Survivors include; F. S. and N. W. MOOMEY; grandchildren and great-grand-children, one brother. Six children, five sons and one daughter were born to this union; O. H. MOONEY; Elletty MOOMEY; William R. MOOMEY; John H. MOONEY; F. S. MOOMEY; and W. W. MOOMEY. Family lived in Iowa until 1896 and then they moved to Mason City, Custer County, Nebraska.

F S MOOMEY: Freeling S. MOOMEY;, active businessman at Mason City, Nebraska for a long term of years died. Spent about two or three years in Texas. Died on November 16, 1932. Born on January 10, 1875, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter MOOMEY, in Keokuk County, Iowa, where he grew to manhood and married Miss Hattie ROLOSON. Since 1896, lived in Mason City, Nebraska. Member of the Masonic Lodge Fraternity, M. W. A. Camp No. 1152 (Modern Workers of America), Village Board and Board of Education. Survivors include: wife, three daughters, Mrs. Bessie SCHULTZ, Mrs. Paul (Thelma) GREEN, and Miss Yvonne MOOMEY, four grandchildren, one brother, W. W. MOONEY of York, Nebraska. Funeral services held at the home November 18, 1932, conducted by Rev. HANSEN of Methodist E. Church in Ansley. Quartette consisted of; Mrs. Ona CHIPPS, Mrs. NELS PETERSON, C. N. ANDERSON and George J. ANDERSON, with MRS. George WHIIEMEAD at the piano. Graveside rites under the Masonic fraternity, burial at Mason City. Out-of-town relatives: Mr. and Mrs. W. W. MOOMEY of York; Mr. and Mrs. Dale MOOMEY of Hastings; Mr. end Mrs. FOSTER and son, Aubrey, of Hastings; Mr. and Mrs. Frank HAGIN of Csllaway; Mr. and Mrs. Otis McKREY and Mrs. Elsie ANDREWS of Iowa City, Iowa.

John T. CASTELLAW: Esteemed old Civil War Soldier died at Mason City on April 17, 1924. Moved to Mason City in 1887, spent past few years in Colorado, moved back about five months ago to make their home with daughter, Mrs. Etta HARRIS. In his 90th year, next September they would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Survived by wife, six children, 26 grandchildren and 19 great-grand-children. Born in Hardaman County, Tennessee, November 16, 1834. September 16, 1858 was married to Matilda Jane CAMPBELL. Lest surviving child of twelve. Children surviving are: J. D. Castellaw, Bayard; Mrs. D. E. RUSMISELL, Bridgeport, Mrs. W. E. CERRELL of Holyoke, CO.; Mrs. Etta HARRIS, Meson City; Mrs. F. H. WILDER, Pamona, CA.; and MRS. W. W. MOOMEY;, Grand Island, ME. HUBLEY, M. C. WARRINGTON and John WALKER. Matilda Jan. CASTELLAW Matilda Jane CAMPBELL, born in Randolph County, Illinois, May 23, 1840, died at Holyoke, Colorado, April 1, 1925. Married to John T. CASTELLAW at Steelsville, Illinois. Nine children horn, six survive, those being: J. P. CASTELLAW of Hayard, Mrs. Jessie CORNELL, Mrs. Etta COXON, Mason City; Mrs. Grace WILDER, Pomona, CA; Mrs. Pearl MOOMEY York. Effie, Mary and William proceeded mother in death. One sister, Mrs. Hattie C. MORTON, Edmood, Oklahoma is still living. Funeral from the Baptist church on April 7, 1925, Rev. P. J. RUSHLAU, pastor of the Methodist Church in charge. Pallbearers were: F. S. MOONEY, A. O'BRIEN, O. W. MOORE, M. C. WARRINGTON, A. C. McININCH, and F. N. MOSSMAN.

Note: Henry VONBUSCH kept a diary end used it as a reference in telling his story. Some names are misspelled, but were usually spelled like they are pronounced. All of these people were in southwest Lancaster Co., Nebraska, unless otherwise stated. Some dates and placenames are included.

The German Congregational Church of Olive Branch was organized on March 26, 1875. This church wee located in Olive Branch township, Lancaster Co., l-1/2 miles west and 2 miles north of present day Hallam, Nebraska. In 1927 the Hallam end Olive Branch Churches united and in 1965 the name was changed to the Congregational United Church of Christ. Other names from the Von BUSCH diary are as follows:

Chase County was organized in 1886 with Imperial becoming the County Seat that same year. Chase County was named for Colonel Champion S. CHASE of Omaha. Also the town of Champion and the Post Office Chase were named for him. The original name of the town of Champion was Hamilton and s newspaper "The Hamilton Herald was published at Champion. The Editor was J. S. SHOEMAKER. The first issue of the paper was dated January 6, 1886.

Thomas MERCIER formerly owned the lend on which the town of Imperial is located. To the north of Imperial is Grant, south is Benkelman, east is Wauneta and west is Lemar. Howe SMITH of McCook, helped locate Imperial along with Thomas MERCIER and a man named GOODRICH.

The original town of Imperial was built on land homesteaded by Thomas MERCIER and N. L. GOODRICH. C. N. COTTRELL owned a hardware store, Otto FLIESBACH owned a general merchandise store, these both being located in the same building. There were two more general stores, BRITTELL's and MERCIER's. The post office was in MERCIER's store. Imperial also had a lumber yard owned by Mr. WHITHAM, a drug store owned by s Mr. SMITH, a livery stable owned by SMITH Brothers (L. P. and F. T.) and a blacksmith shop. Not long after the town started, there was another bank headed by Frank THURESSON, The first bank, which was owned by Mr. BELTZER failed with some loss to the depositors, but 0. P. SHALLENBERGER and J. M. SEWELL started what has always been the Farmer's and Merchant's Bank. This original bank building is the one in which S. L. JACKS now has his cleaning shop. Sunday School was held in FLIESBACH's home. In May 1888, when the town was being moved and rebuilt, a small cyclone struck the town.

McGUIRE, first name unknown, was a trapper and a buffalo hunter. George BANKS, Sr. came to Chase County on March 3, 1886, along with quite a few other settlers. Most of them later went back to where they came from, except the GARDNERS and Wall and Angelo BILL. They came from Iowa to Holdrege. Most who settled in Canby Precinct were Scotch, Tom and John McGINNIS, Old Mr. HOLSTEAD, father of Mrs. Angelo HILL, John ALEXANDER, Judge McCAWLEY, Vall and Angelo HILL, the GARDNERS and George BANKS, Sr. filed homestead claims at McCook and settled in what is Canby Precinct.

The first election held in Canby Precinct was about 1888 and was held in the farm house of a man named Judge McCAWLEY.

There was no organized Chase County in 1885. Taken from Haues County in June 1886 and Governor DAWES appointed the first set of officers, entirely. The commissioners, judge, clerk and all. The first County Clerk was John McCLELLAN of Wauneta.. County Treasurer was Horace, or Hod COLE. The County Judge was CARPENTER. Judge Thomas STANDIDGE was the first elected Judge. The first commissioners were Charley FISHER of Wauneta, A. S. ALLEN of Lamar, which was known as Allendale at that time and J. I. MOSBERGER of Champion, which was called Hamilton. The sheriff was Robert MULLIGAN; he was the first appointed sheriff and the first elected sheriff also. The first child born in Chase County, as far as we know, was Mrs. Bert (Maude McCLELLAN) CRANDALL, or Mrs. John (Inez COTTRELL) NEWMAN. The County Superintendent was W. A. REED, who organized School District No. 1, No. 2, Imperial No. 3 and Least No. 4.

The beginning of Fairfield. Fairfield was incorporated as a village, 1 July 1878, by the Board of County Commissioners of Clay County, Nebraska. A record of the proceedings is as follows:

Sutton, Nebraska, 1 July 1878: Present, Ezra BROWN, Richard BAYLY, and Frank NORTHRUP, Commissioners. A. J. McPEAK, Sheriff, Ezra E. HOWARD, Clerk.

Petition of J. H. CONRAD and 25 others for the incorporation of the town of Fairfield, Clay County, Nebraska. The metes and bounds of said town to be "The Town of Fairfield" according to the recorded plat, was received and said petition being according to the statutes of Nebraska and the Board being satisfied that a majority of the taxable male inhabitants of said town of Fnirfield have signed the above mentioned petition, on motion the prayer of the petition was granted and the following order was made: That The Town of Fairfield, Clay County, Nebraska, according to the recorded plat thereof, that the following named parsons be and are hereby appointed Trustees of said town, until successors shall be elected and qualified according to law, towit: L. F FRYAR, D. HOWE, J. R. MALYBY, John EPLEY and W. S. PRICKETT. On notion, Board adjourned. Ezra JOHNSON, County Clerk.

On 25 February 1889, Fairfied (sic) became a city second class, since which tine officers of said city have been as follows:

GILBERT-HULSE CEMETERY IN SALINE COUNTY, NEBRASKA

This cemetery is located in the South East corner of Section 33, Township 8 North, Range 2 East in Saline County, Nebraska. From Friend, Nebraska on Highway #6, 5 miles east and 3 miles south on Highway #15 and one mile west, or from Dorchester, Nebraska, 4 miles west and 3 miles south and 1 mile wast.

This cemetery was read and indexed by Mrs. Merlin (Rose Marie) Hulse of Exeter, Nebraska 68351 in May of 1978.

On 16 June 1872, Jonas and Louisa GILBERT sold to Joseph HULSE and children for the amount of $7.50, the one half acre which is the east half of the GILBERT cemetery to be used for a burial ground for them and for as many as they see fit to be buried there.
