Robert L. GRUNTORAD 70, of Gilbert, AZ, died April 23, 2011 at Banner Dessert
Hospital in Mesa, AZ. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 27, at St.
Anne’s Catholic Church in Gilbert. interment will be at a later date at Queen of
Heaven Cemetery. Robert was born Nov. 30, 1940, to Henry J. and Susie (Thinnes)
Gruntorad. On July 21, 1962 he married Luanne Stieb. Preceding him in death were
his daughter, Theresa; parents, Henry and Susie, brothers, Frances Dean, Joseph,
Hank and sister and brother-in-law Agnes and Frank Tomasek.

Gertrude R. Hickey KUTSCH, age 88 of Cozad, NE, died May 1, 2011 at the Golden
Living Care Center in Cozad. Mass of the Christian Burial held May 7, 2011 at
Christ The King Catholic Church in Cozad. Burial will be in the St. Anselm’s
Cemetery. Gertrude was born Aug. 11, 1922 at York, NE, to Cornelius and Sylvia
(Gess) McCarthy. On March 26, 1940, she married William J. Hickey at Anselmo,
NE. On Aug. 29, 1975, she married Lyle Kutsch; who later preceded her in death
on March 1, 2011. Also preceding her in death were her parents; a son, Mike;
daughter-in-law, Connie; great grandson, Lane; six brothers, Henry, Neil,
Dennis, Jerry, Thomas, John and a sister, Mary McDermott Kuta.

Renata BRELL, age 92 of Elwood, NE, died April 29, 2011 at the Elwood Care
Center in Elwood. Services held May 4, 2011 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in
Elwood. Burial will be in the Elwood Cemetery. Renata was born July 12, 1918 to
Emil and Anna (Ziebell) Esslinger. On Dec. 14, 1941, Renata married Wilbur Brell
in the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Renata was preceded in death by her husband,
Wilbur; her parents, Emil and Anna; two brothers, Edwin and Herbert and a
sister, Elsa Kroger.

Lathan Daniel SMITH 16 days, flew to the arms of Jesus on Sunday, May 1, 2011,
at the home of his grandparents in Lexington, NE. Burial will be in the
Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington. He was born April 15, 2011, at Tri-County
Hospital in Lexington to Willis Gibbens and Lindsay Smith.

Gretchen Geraldine LAIER, 75, of North Platte, NE, died April 25, 2011, at Great
Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte. Memorial graveside service May
7, 2011, at Eustis East Cemetery, Gretchen was born on Sept. 22, 1935, at
Holdrege, NE, to Christian David and Helyn Virginia France Laier. She was
preceded in death by her parents, Christian and Helyn Laier.

Chris P. McCURDY, age 37 of Cozad, NE, died May 2, 2011. Mass of the Christian
Burial held May 6, 2011 at Christ The King Catholic Church in Cozad. Burial will
be in the Cozad Cemetery. Chris was born Sept. 29, 1973 at Lexington to Patrick
and Naomi (Rookstool) McCurdy. On Sept. 9, 2009, he married Jennifer Lindeman,
near Deadwood, SD. He was preceded in death by two maternal grandmothers and a
grandfather; paternal grandparents and two uncles, Mike Bergman and Art Rexroat.

Merle D. HAYES, age 76 of Eustis, NE, died May 2, 2011 at his home in Eustis.
Graveside services held May 10, 2011 at the Westview Cemetery at Eustis, Merle
was born Aug. 17, 1934 on the Hayes family farm. In the early 1970s, Merle
married Betty “Boots” Dubas. Merle was preceded in death by his parents.

Harla Jean GRUBER, age 77 of Cozad, NE, died May 3, 2011 at the Golden Living
Care Center in Cozad. Services held May 7, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church
in Cozad. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery south of Cozad. Harla was born
Feb. 9, 1934 at Lexington to Ed and Alma (Elliker) Kreitz. On Dec. 22, 1952, she
married Doug Gruber. Harla was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Alma;
siblings, Emily, Claire, Dean, Howard, Gordon and Jerry and a son-in-law, Mike
Feik.

Lloyd E. BARTA, Sr., 76, of Lexington, NE, died May 7, 2011, at Tri-County
Hospital in Lexington. Funeral Services were May 11, 2011, at Trinity Lutheran
Church in Lexington. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Evergreen
Cemetery at Lexington. Lloyd was born July 26, 1934, at Overton,NE,  to Mike G.
and Eva A. (Warner) Barta. He was united in marriage to Patricia Louise Johnson
on June 7, 1964, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington. He was united in
marriage to Opal Brown Berry on Aug. 15, 1999, at Lexington. Lloyd was preceded
in death by his parents; first wife, Patricia; four brothers, George, Frank, Ed
and Chester Barta and four sisters, Mildred, Leora, Edna and Martha.

Carol A. ROTH, 60, of North Platte, NE, died May 4, 2011 at the University of
Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE.  Memorial services will be May 13, 2011 at
Carpenter Memorial Chapel. She was born Nov. 1, 1950 to Rollin L. and Ida M.
(Tatro) Crouch at Aberdeen, SD. She was united in marriage Sept. 3, 2010 to Mark
Roth at North Platte.

Norman D. BURMAN, 70, of Sumner, NE, died May 9, 2011 at the Phelps Memorial
Hospital in Holdrege, NE. Funeral Services will be May 13, 2011 at the Sumner
United Church.  Interment will be at the Sumner Cemetery. Norman Douglas Burman
was born March 21, 1941 to Paul and Olivene (Miller) Burman in Kearney. He was
united in marriage to Karen Griffin. On Jan. 7, 1977, Norman was united in
marriage to Marcia Murphy Miner. Norman was preceded in death by his father,
Paul Burman and his aunt Zenola Burman.

Vince F. URBAN, 63, of Lexington, NE,  died May 10, 2011, at the Tri-County
Hospital in Lexington. Mass of Christian Burial will be May 13, 2011, at St.
Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington. Private Inurnment will be held at a later
time in the Elwood Cemetery at Elwood, NE. Vince was born Sept. 19, 1947, at
Columbus, NE, to Raymond and Libbie (Smrz) Urban. He was united in marriage to
Lila (Stoll) Lerdall on Dec. 29, 1997, at Las Vegas, NV. Vince was preceded in
death by his parents; infant brother, Joseph; one niece, Angela Urban and his
parents-in-law, Elmer and Marguerite Stoll.

Luis Manuel “Wicho” A, ARRIDONDO  17, of Overton, NE, died May 9, 2011, at his
home south of Overton. Mass of Christian Burial will be May 14, 2011, at St.
Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington, NE. Burial will be in the Overton Cemetery
at Overton. Luis was born June 23, 1993, in Indio, CA to Ruben and Rosa Maria
(Nunez) Arredondo. Luis was preceded in death by his grandpa and one cousin, Denise.

Cathern Lorene Nevada (Clark) WOOD, 81, of Mason City, NE, died May 14, 2011, at
Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow, NE. Funeral Services
will be May 18, 2011, at the Berean Bible Church in Lexington, NE. Burial will
be in the Overton Cemetery at Overton, NE. She was born April 7, 1930 at
Culloden, W. Va., to Newton Ivory and Garnet (Beckett) Clark.  Cathern was
united in marriage to Lester I. Wood on Nov. 20, 1971, at Lexington. Cathern was
preceded in death by her parents; one son, David; one great-granddaughter, Sara
and one half-brother.

Lester I. WOOD, 88, of Broken Bow, NE, formerly of Mason City, NE, died May 18,
2011, at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow. Funeral Services will be May
21, 2011, at the Berean Bible Church in Lexington. Burial will be in the Overton
Cemetery at Overton. He was born Sept. 23, 1922, at Buffalo, to Charles Timothy
and Myrtle K. (Feddersen) Wood. He was united in marriage to Cathern Clark on
Nov. 20, 1971, at Lexington, NE. Lester was preceded in death by his parents;
his wife, Cathern on May 14, 2011; three brothers, Ken, Allan, Charles and one
infant brother; two sisters, Norma and Audrey; one great-granddaughter, Sara and
one stepson, David.

David Brian CRAWFORD, 47, of Lexington, NE, died May 17, 2011, at Good Samaritan
Hospital in Kearney, NE. Funeral Services will be held May 21, 2011, at the
First Presbyterian Church in Lexington. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery
at Lexington. David was born April 13, 1964, at Lexington, to Jimmy and Marylin
(Deeter) Crawford. David was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal
grandparents; Audrey and Babe Crawford and J. Roy and Edith Deeter.

Edward J. NAPRSTEK, 85, of Lexington, NE, died May 18, 2011, at his home in
Lexington. Funeral Services will be May 23, 2011,at Trinity Lutheran Church in
Lexington. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at
Lexington. He was born Oct. 13, 1925, at Elba, to Edward V. and Anna (Novotony)
Naprstek. Ed was united in marriage to Evelyn Oelkers on May 5, 1948, at Salem
Lutheran Church. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn in 1999;
one daughter, Janice Sunquist; two brothers, Milford and Frank Naprstek and two
sisters, Venice Kugler and Alice Thinnes.

Willard Wayne DANNEHL 82, of Bertrand, NE, died May 19, 2011 in Holdrege, NE.
Funeral services held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bertrand May 24, 2011.
Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery at Bertrand. Willard was born on Feb.
8, 1929 to Elmer and Enna (Ebmeier) Dannehl. On June 15, 1958, Willard married
Janet Claire Lentz at Pilgrim Congregational Church in Coleridge, NE. He was
preceded in death by his parents.

Fern I. HODGSON, 86, of Lexington, NE, died May 21, 2011, at Kearney Good
Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE. Funeral services will be  May 27, 2011, at
the Berean Bible Church in Lexington. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery
at Lexington. She was born April 4, 1925, at Eddyville, to Elmer L. and Florence
Nancy (Booth) Bell. She was united in marriage to L. Arbor Hodgson on May 29,
1946, at Eddyville, NE. Fern was preceded in death by her parents; husband,
Arbor in 2008 and four sisters, Mildred Kulhanek, Ione Kratzer, Vivian Bell and
Doris Rhoadarmer.

Frederick NIELSEN, Jr., 91, of Meridian, ID, died May 3, 2011.  Funeral services
will be held May 28 at the Church of the Holy Nativity in Meridian. Fred was
born Feb. 8, 1920 in Omaha to Evelyn and Frederick Sr.  He married Ruth in
1944.

Fred M. VOLLMER, Jr., 87, of Lexington, NE, died May 20, 2011, at Good Samaritan
Hospital in Kearney, NE. A memorial service will be held May 25, 2011, at the
First United Methodist Church in Lexington. Private inurnment will be held prior
to the memorial service at Greenwood Cemetery. He was born April 16, 1924, at
Overton, NE, to Fred M. and Jessie (Musser) Vollmer, Sr. On Jan. 20, 1945, was
united in marriage to Geraldine M. Eby at Kearney. Fred was preceded in death by
his parents; four brothers, Harley, Myrle, Virgil and Herman; two sisters, Edna
Young and Viola Searles and two infant brothers.

Jorge Luis BARRAGAN, 28 minutes old, died May 24, 2011, at Tri-County Hospital
in Lexington, NE. A Memorial Mass will be recited on May 28, 2011, at St. Ann’s
Catholic Church in Lexington. His parents are Jorge Barragan and Maria del
Carmen Arredondo of Bertrand.

LeRoy H. GRIESE age 85 of Cozad, NE, died May 26, 2011 at the Golden Living Care
Home in Cozad. Graveside services with military honors will be held on  May 31,
2011 at the Ft. McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, NE. LeRoy was born on
Jan.25, 1926 at Gettysburg, SD to Henry G. and Lenora A. (Breitkreutz)
Griese. On April 20, 1949, LeRoy married Theresa E. Hoffmann at Luverne, MN.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa in 2010; son, Karl and a
sister, Mildred Bernhagen.
