Bartek was born Mar 17, 1951 to Frank A., Sr. and Frances (Koranda) Bartek at Prague. He farmed and raised cattle northwest of Valparaiso for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Frank A. Bartek Jr.; and infant nephew, Mark Ratkovec. Irene J. HINES (1926-2011) MORSE BLUFF – Irene J. Hines, 85, of Morse Bluff, died Dec. 3 at Fremont. Shw was born March 27, 1926 to James and Stella (Hanis) Slosser in rural Bruno. She married Edward J. "Bud" Hines Feb. 23, 1946 in Little Rock, Ark. where Bud was serving in the Army. After his discharge in 1947 they settled at Morse Bluff where they farmed. Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend in charge of arrangements. Judith KABOUREK (1946-2011) BRAINARD – Judith "Judy" Kabourek, 64, of Brainard, died Nov. 27 in David City. She was born on Nov. 28, 1946 to Joseph and Marie (Walla) Kadavy in Lincoln. She married Ernest Kabourek on Aug. 19, 1967. The couple made their home in Brainard. Annette and Jerry Kabourek were born to this union. Judy and Ernie's adopted children are Mari Beth and Kristin Kabourek. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Annette; and her parents, Joseph and Marie Kadavy. Funeral Mass was held Nov. 30 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Brainard. Mary MARTIN (1926-2011) COEUR D' ALENE, Idaho – Mary Martin, 85, died Nov. 25 at her home after a brief illness. Mary was born on April 20, 1926 to Martin and Mildred Ballou in Ashland. She was married to Robert Alig in 1949, and was widowed in 1956, leaving her to raise their three children. She was remarried from 1963 to 1965 and gave birth to her fourth child. She was preceded in death by her brother, Martin Ballou, and sister, Jessie Ballou. Carolyn E. NOVOTNY (1943-2011) FREMONT – Carolyn E. Novotny, 68, of Fremont, died Dec. 3, 2011. He was born July 27, 1948, to Stanley and Otilla (Musil) Trutna in Lincoln. He served in the Nebraska National Guard for six years during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he returned to Valparaiso where he farmed and operated Circle T Construction Company. He was preceded in death by his parents. Army and served two separate active duty tours from Sept 1949 to May 1950 and Nov 1950 to Nov 1951. He married Bonita Zetocha on Jan. 2, 1951 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was preceded in death by sons, John and Raymond; daughters, Laurie Jensen and Kathy Abbott; grandsons, Randy Abbott, Jason Hutson; brothers, Bill, Robert, Earl and John Arney; sisters, Betty Hughes, Dorothy Hughes and Eva Dokulil. Olson, 73, of rural Gretna died Dec. 8, 2011, at his home. He was born Oct. 23, 1938 in Greenwood to Harold and Doris (Loomis) Olson. He served in the U.S. Army at Fort Bliss, Texas from 1962 through Jan. 31, 1964. He married Mary Mohler in Blair on Sept. 23, 1972. He was preceded in death by his parents. Sister Edwardine REZEK OMAHA – Sister Edwardine Rezek, 86, a Notre Dame Sister for 64 years, died on Dec. 11 at Immanuel Fontenelle Omaha. Sr. Edwardine (Mary Agnes) was the daughter of Charles and Agnes Piskac Rezek, long-time residents of South Omaha and members of Sts. Peter and Paul Parish. She professed her first vows on Aug. 13, 1947. For 55 years, she was an elementary grade teacher and administrator. She served in Omaha at St. Adalbert's and Assumption Grade Schools; in Iowa at St. Wenceslaus in Spillville and St. Ludmila in Cedar Rapids. The majority of her years of service were at St. Wenceslaus in Wahoo and St. John's in Weston. Preceding her in death were her parents; and her brothers, Charles, Edward and Joseph. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Florence Rezek; many nieces and nephews; and her Notre Dame Sisters. Mass of Christian Burial was held Dec. 16 at St. Philip Neri Church. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery in Omaha. Theodore "Ted" SLEMIN CERESCO – Theodore "Ted" Slemin, 87, of rural Ceresco, died Dec. 9 in Wahoo. He was born on June 26, 1924 to Joseph and Rose (Rehak) Slemin in Prague. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Stanley and Frank Slemin; and sister-in-law, Mary Slemin.
