Randy Dale HINRICH, 53, of Lexington, NE, died April 2, 2011. Services were April 6, 2011
at Grace Lutheran Church in Lexington. Burial held April 8, 2011 at St. Mark’s Cemetery at
Pender, NE. Randy was born Dec. 15, 1957, at Pender to Robert and Dorothy (Siebrandt) 
Hinrich. Randy was united in marriage to Carol Clausen, also from Pender, on Mar 10, 1979 
at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender. Randy was preceded in death by his father; one 
son, Brett on May 12, 1983, and one nephew, Jeremy Nesladek, as well as his grandparents.

Carl A. PETERS, age 73, of Grand Island, NE, died April 4, 2011 at the Grand Island Veteran’s 
Home. Private family services held April 6, 2011. Burial with military honors will be in the Cozad 
Cemetery. Carl was born July 9, 1937 at Omaha to Wilhelm and Verna (Taylor) Peters. Carl was 
preceded in death by his granddaughter, Cassi Christner; wife, Ginny; four brothers, William, 
Joseph, Paul and Jim and two sisters, Alice and Mary.

Mary I. THOMAS, age 104 of Cozad, NE, died April 5, 2011. Memorial service held April 10, 2011 
at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel in Cozad. Inurnment in the St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park 
at Granger, Ind., at a later date. Mary was born Jan. 13, 1907 at Indianapolis, Ind., to Bert and 
Hazel (Stiver) Doud. In 1927, she married Dale Hinton at South Bend. She went on to marry John 
Young, and after his passing, Jim Thomas. In addition to her husbands, Mary was preceded in death 
by a brother, Ralph; two sisters, Nora and Lucille and two infant siblings, Ben and Delores.

Helen M. (Volk) GRANT, 94, of Battle Creek, NE, died April 7, 2011. Funeral services April 11, 2011 
at St. John Lutheran Church. Burial in St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Helen was born south of Battle 
Creek on Sept. 17, 1916, to John C and Amelia (Schmidt) Volk. On June 21, 1936 at St Peter’s 
(Heights) Lutheran Church, Helen Volk and Willis Grant exchanged wedding vows. She was 
preceded in death by her parents; husband Willis Grant in 1985 and a brother, Kenneth.

Joanna Arganda-MAGANA, age 20, of Kearney, NE, died April 6, 2011. Funeral services 
April 12, 2011 at the St. James Catholic Church in Kearney. Burial at the Kearney Cemetery. 
Joanna was born Aug. 10, 1990 in Orange County CA to Enrique and Ana Arganda.

Dianne “Di” HOLLIBAUGH, 63, of Eddyville, NE, died April 9, 2011, in Lexington, NE. 
Funeral Services held April 13, 2011, at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington. 
She was born July 11, 1947, at Lexington to Henry “Hank” and Hazel Ruth (Eaton) Miller. 
She was united in marriage to Gene Hollibaugh on Dec. 15, 1978, at Lexington. Di was 
preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Gene Dodson.

Roger Fred GRIESFELLER, 67, of North Platte, NE, died April 9, 2011. Funeral service 
April 13, 2011, at Odean Colonial Chapel. Burial with military honors in the Salem East 
Cemetery near Elwood. Roger was born on Feb. 5, 1944, at Lexington, NE, to Fritz 
‘Fred’ Henry and Susanna ‘Susie’ Marie Lucas Griesfeller. He was preceded in death 
by his parents, Fred and Susie; a sister, Judy Marie Griesfeller; and a brother, Kent 
William Griesfeller.

Anna J. CHAVEZ, 70, of Cozad, NE, died April 13, 2011. Services held on April 16, 2011 
at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel in Cozad. Burial in the Cozad Cemetery. Anna was 
born on Mar 19, 1941 at Cozad to Grover and Lucille (Allen) Newbrey. On June 8, 1963, 
she married Archie Chavez at Yorkville, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents 
and two brothers, Dick and Ted Newbrey.

Dennis Lee “Denny” WADDLE, 60, of Elwood, NE, died April 13, 2011, at his home near 
Elwood. Memorial service held April 18, 2011 at Parkview Baptist Church. He was born 
May 29, 1950, at Concordia, Kan., to Clyde C. and Esther Rosalie (Carver) Waddle. 
Denny was married to Boni Leigh Moranville on Aug. 8, 1970, at Mitchell, NE. Denny 
was preceded in death by his mother in 1993; grandparents; mother-in-law and 
stepmother-in-law. 

James C. “Jim” BIRT, age 67, of Elwood, NE, died April 13, 2011 at the Great Plains 
Regional Medical Center in North Platte, NE. Services held April 18, 2011 at Berryman 
Funeral Home in Cozad, NE. Burial with military honors in the Elwood Cemetery at 
Elwood. Jim was born on Dec. 23, 1943, at Elwood, to John and Leona (Voreis) Birt. 
Jim was united in marriage to Patricia Glaze on June 15, 1968 at Idaho Falls, ID. 
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Walter Boss; granddaughter, 
Molly Patricia Walther; stepbrother, Garold Dean Boss and stepsister, Effie Joy Carter. 

Bill J. SPEAK, 86, of Bella Vista, AR, died April 13, 2011. Memorial service held April 18, 2011
at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington, NE. Inurnment in the Greenwood Cemetery 
at Lexington, with Military Honors. He was born on Sept. 28, 1924, in Lexington, to Charles 
Houston and Mary Louise Robinson Speak. He was united in marriage to Georgia Hofferber on 
Dec. 7, 1947, at the United Methodist Church in Lexington. He was preceded in death by his 
parents, Charles and Mary Speak; five brothers, Clarence, Roy, Melvin, Paul and Wayne and 
six sisters, Patricia, Minnie, Letha, Ruby, Ada and Verda.

John L. “Jack” MAJOR, 80, died April 14, 2011 in Lincoln, NE. Mass of Christian Burial at 
St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Lincoln. Burial at St. Leonard’s Cemetery in 
Madison, NE. Jack was born near Fullerton, NE, on May 8, 1930. In October of 1950 he 
married Mary Ann McGill. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his 
wife of 51 years, Mary Ann; his son, D. Michael; daughter, Mary; one granddaughter, 
Melissa and one sister, Esther (Major) Zessin.

Frances L. MATERA (nee Daiss), age 84, died April 1, 2011 in Victorville, CA. Inurnment 
was April 8, 2011 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary, Cathedral City, CA., next 
to her husband Danny. Frances was born in 1926 to Frank and Marie (Hess) Daiss in 
Eustis, NE. Frances was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Marie Daiss; two 
brothers, Marion and Daniel; three husbands; a sister, Bonnie Porter; brother-in-law, 
Marion Bonser and sister-in-law Betty Daiss. 

Delores Eileen POTTER, 72, of Lexington, NE, died April 15, 2011. Funeral Services held 
April 19, 2011, at Lexington Christian Church. Inurnment held at a later date in the 
Evergreen Cemetery at Lexington. She was born May 2, 1938, at Kearney, NE, to 
Henry and Margaret (Howell) Brisbin. Delores was united in marriage to Dean E. Potter 
on May 20, 1955, at Norton, KS. Delores was preceded in death by her husband, Dean 
in 1996; parents, Margaret and Chester Boyer and Henry Brisbin and in-laws, Ralph and 
Helen Potter.

Lloyd D. JONES, 85, of Lexington, NE, died April 15, 2011. Memorial service held April 25, 2011 
at the First United Methodist Church in Lexington. Inurnment held prior to the memorial service 
in the Methodist Columbarium. He was born Feb. 24, 1926, at Lexington, to Walter Clyde and 
Anna Vivette (Nelson) Jones. He married Leona Joan Sorensen June 5, 1949, at Blair, NE. Lloyd 
was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Nelson Keith.

Hazel Mae SITLINGTON, 96, of Holdrege, NE, died April 15, 2011. Graveside services and interment
conducted from the Robb Cemetery, southeast of Lexington on April 20, 2011. Hazel was born 
Feb.18, 1915 to Stephen and Nellie (Ruby) Cole. On June 12, 1948 she was united in marriage 
to Paul N. Sitlington, Jr. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul
and a brother, Elbert Cole.

Mary METTENBRINK, 79 of Grand Island, NE, formerly of Loomis, NE, died April 17, 2011 at 
her home. Services at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island, NE. Burial of ashes at Westlawn 
Memorial Park Cemetery. Mary C. (Munoz) Mettenbrink was born Dec. 8, 1931 in Lexington, NE
to Genaro and Filiberta (Godinez) Munoz, Sr. She was united in marriage to Manuel Martinez of 
Gibbon in Dec. of 1953. On July 11, 1982 she was united in marriage to Herb Mettenbrink. In 
addition to her first husband, Manuel, and parents, she was preceded in death by her 
siblings, Louis, Salvador, James, Victoria Munoz and step grandchild, Jason Bates.

Arthur L. BUSS, 91, of Cozad, died April 19, 2011. Graveside services with military honors 
held April 22, 2011 at the Cozad Cemetery. He was born Nov. 9, 1919 to Christian and Altje 
(Broer) Buss. On Nov. 16, 1946, Arthur married Virginia Kostman at Norton, KS. He was 
preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Grace Buss, Margaret Buesing and Freda 
Parsons; three brothers, Benjamin, Walter and Ralph; two sisters-in-law, Devona and Artis 
Buss and two brothers-in-law, Herbert Parsons and George Buesing.

Bud GIERHAN, age 81, of Kearney, NE, died April 18, 2011. Funeral services held April 22, 2011 
at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kearney. Burial at the Greenwood Cemetery in Franklin, NE. 
Bud was born on Sept. 3, 1929 in Lexington, NE, to Martin F. and Martha (Neben) Gierhan. He 
married Bev Schmidt at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington. Bud was preceded in death by 
his parents, and one son Michael.

Glenna B. PFISTER, 97, of Lexington, NE, died April 22, 2011. Funeral Services held April 25, 2011 
at the Lexington Berean Bible Church in Lexington. Interment in the Greenwood Cemetery at 
Lexington. Glenna was born April 8, 1914 in Tremont, IL to Benjamin and Christina (Pflederer) Getz. 
Glenna was united in marriage to George Pfister on July 23, 1939 in Fremont, NE. Glenna was 
preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; five sisters: Rachael, Edna, Barbara, Marjorie 
and Bernice and one brother, Merle.

Dorothy MILLER, 86, of Callaway, NE, died April 22, 2011, at her home in Callaway. 
Memorial service held April 26, 2011, at the United Methodist Church in Callaway. 
Private family inurnment prior to the service. Dorothy was born Feb. 11, 1925, at 
Glasgow, Scotland, to John and Ethel Wallace. She married a Yankee soldier named 
Henry Miller in July of 1945. They married in Scotland. Dorothy was preceded in death 
by her husband, Henry, in 1977.

Henry ROETHER, age 96 of Eustis, NE, died April 25, 2011 in Lexington, NE. Memorial services 
held May 1, 2011 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Eustis. Private family inurnment in the East 
Cemetery at Eustis. Henry was born Dec. 12, 1914, to Henry and Eleonora (Koch) Roether, Sr. 
On Aug. 19, 1940, Henry married LaRue V. Gengenbach at Reno, NV. Henry was preceded by 
his parents; two sisters, Ruth and Esther and two brothers, George and Dan.

Evelyn Louise FOX, age 86, of Elwood, NE, died April 24, 2011 in Lexington, NE. 
Funeral services held May 2, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church, Lexington. 
Inurnment at the Elwood Cemetery in Elwood on May 2, 2011. She was born on 
July 11, 1924 near Plato, Iowa to Charles and Minnie (Parsons) Taylor. Evelyn 
and Wesley Fox, were married Dec. 21, 1947. She is preceded in death by her 
parents; husband, Wesley Fox and son, Lynn Fox.
