She was born April 5, 1927, to Alvin Leslie and Laura (Cumings) Magee on the farm near Cheney, south of Lincoln, where she grew up. On Feb. 19, 1952, she married Ivan Barry in Wahoo. They lived on a farm near Malmo. Ivan died Mar 10, 1999 and in 2001, she moved to Fremont. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers and three sisters. GOEBEL (1931 - 2010 ) FREMONT – Donna F. Miller Goebel, 78, died Mar 1. She was born on Dec. 30, 1931 to Frank and Erma (Longacre) Christian on a farm near North Bend. She married Thorwald E. "Doc" Miller on Aug. 14, 1949 at the First Presbyterian Church in North Bend. Her parents; her first husband; two brothers, Lyle and Warren Christian; and a granddaughter preceded her in death. Funeral services were held Mar 5 at First Lutheran Church in Fremont with burial at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. Mary Jean RANDALL GUNNISON, Colo. – Mary Jean (Baer) Randall, 85, of Gunnison, died Feb. 25, 2010. She was born on Dec. 15, 1924 in Ashland, Neb. to Dr. Byron H. and Mrs. Mary A. Baer. She held teaching positions in Fremont, Lincoln and Denver, Colo. between 1946 and 1955. In 1955, she married Dr. Edwin H. Randall of Gunnison, Colo. and to where Dr. Randall was a professor at Western State College. To this union were born Dee Ann and Nancy Jane. She also adopted John Randall, Edwin's son from a previous marriage. Her husband died in 1988. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother, Charles. Frank W. SMITH (1939 - 2010 ) WAHOO – Frank Wayne Smith, 70, of Wahoo, died Mar 3 at his home. He was born on July 16, 1939 to Francis and Velma (Giese) Smith in Los Angeles, Calif. He moved to Wahoo in 1979. He married Karen Croghan on Mar 21, 1959 at the North Town Church in Pomona, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Lyle Bryant Smith. Memorial service was held Mar 5 at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo. Inurnment was at Sunrise North Cemetery in Wahoo. Agnes L. BENES (1913 - 2010) WAHOO – Agnes L. Benes, 96, died Mar 8 in Omaha. She was born on Oct. 28, 1913, to Adolph and Mary (Tejral) Komenda in Wahoo. She married Emil Benes on Jan. 9, 1934 at St. John Nepomucene Church in Weston in a double wedding with her sister Marie and George Skokan. She was preceded in death by her husband; sisters, Helen Tejral, Julia Kliment, Marie Skokan and Betty Benes; and brothers, Adolph, Anton and Ted Komenda. Mass of Christian Burial held Mar 11 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Interment at St. Francis Cemetery. James W. ELLISON MEAD – James William Ellison, 67, died Mar 9 at his home near Mead. He was born Dec. 5, 1942 to Wilmer "Butch" and Virginia (McFarlane) Ellison in Seattle, Wash. The family moved near Mead when he was young. He married Hermine Kay Storm on Aug. 2, 1962 at the Lutheran Church in Yutan. He worked as both a farmer and a carpenter. His parents preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Mar 13 at the Mead Covenant Church in Mead. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date at the Marietta Presbyterian Cemetery. Edna I. HANSON (1942 - 2010) MEAD – Edna I. Hanson, 67, of Mead, died Mar 4 at her home. She was born Nov. 17, 1942 to Edward and Anna (Neemann) Pieper at Cook. Edna's parents both died when she was a young girl. She married Dale Hanson on Sept. 10, 1967 at the First Presbyterian Church in Wahoo. The couple lived on the same farm near Mead that Dale's great-grandparents homesteaded. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Anna Pieper and Hilda and Hank Mehlop. Funeral services held Mar 9 at Alma Lutheran Church in Mead. Interment will be at Alma Lutheran Cemetery. Leon P. OLSEN (1942 - 2010) LINCOLN – Leon P. Olsen, 67, of Lincoln, died Mar 7. She was born Feb. 16, 1946, to George and Margaret (Wulbern) Franke in Fremont. She married James Taylor on July 23, 1967 at Fontanelle. They moved to Wahoo in 1971 when they purchased the Wahoo Bakery, which they operated for 32 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, and mother-in-law, Erma Taylor. "Toby" Trutna, 82, died Mar 4 in Wilmington, N.C. He was born Oct. 13, 1927 in Omaha. He was a retired Sergeant Major and a member of the U. S. Marine Corps during WWII, Korea and Vietnam. While teaching high school Latin and English in Yankton, S.D., she met and married Dr. David Wynegar. She was preceded in death by her husband and her daughter, Maryesther Campbell. He was born in Greenwood on May 22, 1940 to Darle and Ferne (Robinson) Buckingham. He joined the U.S. Air Force on Aug. 21, 1959 and served in the 4392nd Civil Engineering Squadron. Chvatal, 93, of Fremont, formerly of Morse Bluff, died Mar 22. He was born Oct. 4, 1916, to Charles and Mary (Odvody) Chvatal in Morse Bluff. He grew up on and farmed the same farm south of Morse Bluff until moving to Fremont in 2001. He married Agnes M. Stritecky on Mar 22, 1944 in Fremont. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step mother, Anna Wirka; a sister, Mayme Racek; step brother, Leonard Wirka; and grandson, Evan James Rosenbach. Funeral services held Mar 25 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Burial at Killian Cemetery near Morse Bluff. Elton ERICKSON ASHLAND – Elton H. Erickson, 92, of Ashland passed away Mar 21, 2010. He was born Mar 25, 1917 near Greenwood to George V. and Edna Mathis Erickson. On July 23, 1943, he was married to Viola Slote at the Hickman Presbyterian Church. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1943 and served in the European Theater with the 110th Medical Battalion in the 35th Division. He was discharged on Oct. 16, 1945 with the rank of sergeant. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald Erickson. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Charles; her husband; her parents; three sisters, Vera Buster, Shirley Williams and Doris Quinn. HOLLST (1962 - 2010 ) YUTAN – Donna Rose Hollst, 47, of Yutan, died Mar 20 at the Hospice House in Omaha after a long battle with cancer. She was born on Aug. 31, 1962 to Jerome and Shirley (Steinkuehler) Mumm in Harlan, Iowa. She married Gary Hollst on Dec. 15, 2000 in Wahoo and they have made their home in Yutan. Milo KASPAR (1917 - 2010 ) WAHOO – Milo Kaspar, 92, died Mar 21 in Wahoo. Milo was born July 22, 1917 to Thomas and Emma (Curda) Kaspar on a farm near Prague. In Jan 1944 he joined the army air corps ground crew and was discharged in June of 1946 as a Sergeant. On April 5, 1945, he married Antonia Sisel in Loma. He was raised in Nebraska and moved to Topeka in the early 1960s. He served in the United States Navy and later the United States Army. He married Carol Stone in Norfolk, Va. He married Emma Kennedy on Feb. 4, 1985 in Topeka, Kan. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Valerian Samek and his former wife, Carol.
