WATERBURY, Neb. -- Jack L. FICKLE, 77, of Waterbury died at his residence 
Aug. 1, 2010, following a battle with cancer. Memorial services at the Mohr 
Funeral Home in South Sioux City. Military rites conducted by the Dept. of 
the Navy, assisted by the South Sioux City American Legion Post 307. 
Burial will be at a later date. Jack was born Aug. 21, 1932, to Ivan and 
Helen (Thompson) Fickle, in rural Wayne, Neb. At the age of 18, he 
joined the service, serving in the U.S. Navy for 20 years. He married 
Virginia Surber in 1981. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; 
sister and brother-in-law, Dolly (Wayne) Noe; and brother, "Babe".

COLERIDGE, Neb. -- Rose V. HEFNER, 88, of Arlington, TX, formerly of 
Coleridge, died Aug. 1, 2010. Services at Immanuel Lutheran Church 
in Coleridge. Burial in Lawn Ridge Cemetery. Arrangements are under 
the direction of Wintz Funeral Home in Coleridge.

WINNEBAGO, Neb. -- Vernon L. SMITH, 43, of Winnebago passed away 
Aug. 2, 2010. Services at Blackhawk Community Center in Winnebago. 
Burial in Winnebago Indian Cemetery. Arrangements are under the 
direction of Winnebago Wake and Burial Program. Vernon was born 
Nov. 9, 1966, in Winnebago. He was a 1997 graduate of the Federal 
Law Enforcement Training Center in Artesia, N.M. He was a lifelong 
resident of Winnebago. He was currently serving with the U.S. Army 
Reserves, 960th Quartermaster Company in Sioux City. He was 
preceded in death by his mother and father, Gustave and Victoria 
Smith; and a sister, Fanelophine "See-ga" Smith.

JACKSON, Neb. -- Waldo "Wally" BIRKLEY, 87, of Jackson died Aug. 5, 2010
at a Sioux City hospital, from injuries suffered in a July 23rd traffic accident. 
Services Monday at Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca, Neb. Burial in Silver 
Ridge Cemetery in rural Ponca. Arrangements are under the direction of 
Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca. Wally was born Dec. 27, 1922, in rural 
Maskell, Neb., to Ole and Josie (Johnson) Birkley. On Sept. 7, 1952, he 
married Joy Ann Lieber at Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca. Joy died on 
Jan. 27, 2006. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Joy; 
his parents, Ole and Josie; and three brothers, Dale, Raymond and Joe.

DECATUR, Neb. -- Lavina R. WALKER, 76, of Decatur passed away Aug. 3, 2010
at the Indian Health Service Hospital in Winnebago, Neb. Services at the Omaha 
Nation School in Macy, Neb. Interment in the Omaha Tribal Cemetery in Macy. 
Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh Funeral Home in 
Pender, Neb. Lavina was born Feb. 22, 1934, in Winnebago, Neb., the 
daughter of David and Lena (Green) Whitehawk. She was a member 
of the Native American Church, and belonged to the Thunder Clan. 
Lavina was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Enos 
Walker; brothers, Tom and Emmett Walker, John D. DeCora Jr., and 
James Martin DeCora; and sister, Flora Deanna DeCora.

EMERSON, Neb. -- Rena (Anfinson) MACK, 58, of Woodridge, Ill., died at 
her suburban Chicago home following a lengthy illness with brain cancer. 
Memorial services at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Emerson, Neb.

PONCA, Neb. -- Wyatt Lee MACKLING, infant son of Ryan and Miranda 
Mackling of Lincoln, Neb., formerly of Ponca, died Aug. 7, 2010, at 
Children's Hospital in Omaha, Neb., following complications from a 
congenital heart defect. Services at Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca. 
Burial in Salem Cemetery, rural Ponca. Arrangements are under the 
direction of Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca.

LAUREL, Neb. -- Don W. ARDUSER, 90, of Laurel died Aug. 5, 2010, at his 
residence. Services at Evangelical Free Church in Concord, Neb. Burial in 
Belden Cemetery, Belden, Neb. Arrangements are under the direction of 
Hasemann Funeral Home in Laurel. Don W. Arduser was born July 14, 1920
in Belden, Neb., to George and Fern (Lewis) Arduser. Don married Roberta 
Greenlee. She died in 1962. Don married Ruby Heinrichs on Dec. 29, 1965
in Omaha. Don was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Roberta; 
and son, Donald Douglas.

WAKEFIELD, Neb. -- Gwendonna G. TULLBERG, 82, of Wakefield died 
Aug. 8, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital. Services at Salem Lutheran 
Church in Wakefield. Burial in Silver Ridge Cemetery, near 
Martinsburg, NE. Bressler-Munderloh Funeral Home in Wakefield.

OAKLAND, Neb. -- Gordon Scott CORWINE, 51, died Aug. 9, 2010, at the 
Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Services at First Evangelical Lutheran
Church in Oakland. Burial in Oakland Cemetery. 

OAKLAND, Neb. -- Melvin Harold WORTH, 85, of Wahoo, Neb., formerly 
of Oakland, died Aug. 9, 2010. Services at First United Methodist Church 
in Oakland. Burial in Oakland Cemetery, with military rites conducted by
the Veterans of Foreign War Ryan Post 5543 and American Legion 
Post 46. Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland. 

WINNEBAGO, Neb. -- Andrea C. HARLAN, 24, of Winnebago passed away 
Aug. 8, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital. Services at the Ho-Chunk Center 
in Winnebago. Burial in Winnebago Tribal Cemetery. Arrangements are 
under the direction of Winnebago Wake and Burial Program. Andrea was 
born Mar 1, 1986, in Sioux City. She lived in Walthill, Neb., until the age 
of four. She then became a life long resident of Winnebago. She was 
preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Laurence and 
Marvella Buchanan of Winnebago; paternal grandparent, Richard 
Hastings of Macy, Neb.; uncles, Wesley Buchanan of Sioux City and 
Tommy Harlan of Macy, Neb.; and an aunt, Nancy Harlan of Walthill, Neb.

PONCA, Neb. -- Robert E. MABEUS, 59, of Kansas City, Mo., formerly of 
Ponca, died July 29, 2010, at his residence. Memorial services Aug. 24
at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ponca. Burial in Calvary at South 
Creek Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr 
Funeral Home in Ponca.

EMERSON, Neb. -- Karissa Lynn, died Aug. 14, 2010. Services at 
St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Emerson. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. 
Karissa was born Jan. 26, 1987, in Pender Neb., the youngest 
daughter of Greg and Kathy Warren. She was preceded in death 
by her maternal grandmother, Alice Tullberg, her paternal 
great-grandparents, Lee and LaMoyle Warren and George 
and Hannah Crosley; and numerous great-aunts and uncles.

ST. HELENA, Neb. -- Lawrence J. "Larry" BECKER, 83, of Yankton, S.D., 
formerly of St. Helena, died Aug. 14, 2010, at the University of Nebraska 
Medical Center. Memorial services at Holy Family Catholic Church in 
St. Helena. Burial of the cremated remains will be at a later date. 
Arrangements are under the direction of Wintz Funeral Home 
in Hartington, Neb.

WINNEBAGO, Neb. -- Emily RAVE-SAMPSON, 56, passed away Aug. 14, 2010
at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness. Services at the Ho-Chunk 
Center in Winnebago. Burial in Rave Cemetery. Arrangements are under the 
direction of Winnebago Wake and Burial Program. Emily was born Oct. 26, 1953
in Winnebago. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Horace 
and Sophie Rave; an infant son, Arthur; a son, Elgy Brown Jr.; her husband, 
Rodney D, Sampson; a sister, Vivian Rave; and two brothers, Herman Rave 
and John Rave.

DECATUR, Neb. -- Ethel M. PHILLIPS, 84, died Aug. 21, 2010 in Lyons, Neb. 
Services at United Methodist Church in Decatur. Burial in Rosehill Cemetery 
at Pender, Neb. 

NEWCASTLE, Neb. -- Thomas Robert KNEIFL, 90, died Aug. 17, 2010, at 
a Sioux City hospital. Services at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Newcastle. 
Burial in Calvary Cemetery, Newcastle. Arrangements are under the 
direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City.

PONCA, Neb. -- Mildred H. RICKETT, 96, died Aug. 15, 2010. Memorial 
services at The Gospel Chapel in Newcastle, Neb. Private family graveside 
services in Ponca City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction 
of Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca.
