Lippold. Married Anton “Tony” Schneider, June 28, 1944, Omaha. 
Owned and operated the “Y” Motel in York and the Lark Bar in 
Columbus before moving to Lincoln. After retiring, they returned 
to the Columbus area. Preceded by her husband; parents; son,

COLUMBUS – Paul Bruno ZUERLEIN, 93, of Columbus, died July 29, 2010. 
Born Aug 30, 1916, Humphrey, to Damian “Tom” and Mary (Sueper) Zuerlein. 
He was a stone and brick mason, working with his father and brothers. Served 
in the US Army from Aug 15, 1942 until Dec 23, 1945. Married Esther Preister,

Farmed near Leigh until 1960, then moved to a farm south of Humphrey 
and farmed there from 1960-1966; then moved to the family farm

Sept 3, 1918, on the family farm north of Columbus, to Ernst and Margaret 
(Meyers) Rosche. Married Henry Kuhlmann, Mar 28, 1940 at Christ Lutheran 
Church Settled on a farm northwest of Luverne, Minn, in Mound Township, 
retiring in 1974. Continued to live on the farm until moving to town in 1979. 
Moved to The Oaks apartments on Jan 2, 2002. Preceded by her husband

WOOD RIVER – Naomi G. DEAN, 84, died Aug 10, 2010, having suffered 
from Parkinson’s disease since 2003. Born Apr 8, 1926, Gothenburg, to 
Albert Keiser and Beckie (Block) Keiser. Married Marion L. Dean, 
May 6, 1944, Gothenburg. Moved to Wood River in 1946. Worked in 
food service for three decades, beginning at Skelly’s Restaurant at

COLUMBUS – Anita “Peggy” CORDER, 81, died Aug 12, 2010 as a result 
of chronic lung disease and heart failure. Born Feb 25, 1929, Clarinda, IA, the 
eldest daughter of George W. and Stella J. (Morris) Loomis. Grew up in 
Shenandoah, Iowa. Married Leffert “Lefty” Corder, Nov 26, 1947, Shenandoah, IA. 
Lived and worked in Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri and Nebraska, first moving to 
Columbus in 1960. Managed the lunch counter at Woolworth for many years and 
was a greeter at Wal-Mart, retiring in 2009 after 18 years. Preceded by her 
parents; husband in 1979; grandson Benjamin Robbins in 2006; sister

until March 2000 when she moved to Columbus. Preceded by her parents;

FULLERTON – Donald Lee FITZGERALD, 81, of Fullerton, died Aug 8, 2010. 
Born Aug 24, 1928, Central City, to John and Ruth (Clayton) Fitzgerald. 
Moved to Fullerton in 1940. Married Eva Hansen, Aug 28, 1949 at Peace 
Lutheran Church, Belgrade. Owned and operated Don’s Snacker Café, 
Fullerton. Went to work for Mid City Motor GM Auto Sales and Service in 
1951, purchasing it in 1964 and changing the name to Fitzgerald’s Mid 
City Motor. Worked at Grosshans GM in Central City in 1991. Retired in 
2003 after 62 years in auto sales and service. Preceded by his parents;

NORFOLK – George Francis FINLEY, 91, of Norfolk, formerly of Clarks, died 
Aug 16, 2010 at Norfolk Veteran’s Home. Born July 18, 1919, Richland, to 
George W. and Rose T. (Wlaschin) Finley. Served in the US Army from 1941 
to 1945. Worked as a depot agent with Union Pacific Railroad for 47 years. 
Married Betty J. Verhaege, Jan 13, 1943 in St Edward Catholic Church. Lived 
in Gothenburg, Brady, Willow Island, Richland, Rogers, Genoa, Albion and 
his final depot was in Clarks, retiring in 1982. Moved to Norfolk Veteran’s

moved to Gothenburg where he ran a service station, moving to

was a resident of Countryside Home. He farmed except for 10 years when he 
worked for Behlen Mfg. Co. Preceded by his parents; wife on July 10, 1954; 
sister, Ethel Uchtman; brothers-in-law, Harold Lloyd, Paul Uchtman; and

DUNCAN – Helen PALLAS, 89, of Duncan, died Aug 25, 2010 at Golden Living

(Reznicek) Sladky. Later moved to Illinois; returned to Nebraska and lived

near Valparaiso where they farmed, moving to Linwood in 1952, then

OMAHA – Bryce CHALQUIST, 82, of Omaha, formerly of Schuyler, died 
Aug 26, 2010. Born Dec 1, 1927, Rising City, to Fredolph and Evangeline 
(Swanson) Chalquist. Married Dona Jean Willman, May 6, 1951 at St Paul’s 
Lutheran Church, Wayne. Served in the US Army from 1951-1952. Taught 
in Valley in 1950; Stanton for 13 years as ag instructor and 2 as principal; 
then 2 years as principal at Schuyler High School; finishing his career as 
superintendent at Schuyler schools for 22 years before retiring in 1990. 
Then worked for Svoboda Funeral Home for 15 years. Preceded by his 
wife on Jan 18, 2009; parents; grandson, Nicholas Perrin. Services 
Aug 30 at Christ United Methodist Church, Schuyler. Burial in Schuyler

with a harvesting crew at age 16. Married Mary Powers, Dec 29, 1979 at United 
Methodist Church, Silver Creek. Farmed near Big Springs until 1990 when he 
moved to Silver Creek, working as a ready-mix driver, plant manager, mechanic 
and most recently at Central City Ethanol Plant. Preceded by his parents; infant
