Survivors include three children and three step-children. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn; his parents; and three brothers, Lloyd DeCent, Jack DeCent and Sam "Dutch" Shaffer Jr. Services at Odean Colonial Chapel. Cremation was chosen. NORTH PLATTE - SHAFFER, Kathryn May 48, died July 2, 2005, southeast of Hershey as a result of a truck accident. She was born April 24, 1957, at North Platte to Billy Dean and Patty Jo Arellano Bowen. On July 6, 1985, she married Eugene Hardy in North Platte. She later divorced. On Feb. 9, 2000, she married Claude "Butch" William Shaffer in Las Vegas. Survivors include her daughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, "Butch" and her mother. Services at Odean Colonial Chapel. Cremation was chosen. NORTH PLATTE - KELLOGG, Donald J., 80, died July 2, 2005. He was born Oct. 8, 1924 at Newcastle to Tresa and Jay Kellogg. In 1943, he volunteered for military service with the US Army. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge. On Nov. 26, 1949, he married Verna Goonan at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island. She was born Oct. 16, 1904 to Lawrence and Elizabeth Neuhart Rueter near Carleton in Thayer County, the oldest of nine children. On June 4, 1930, she married Lee Lawrence Darby in Imperial. They resided in Trenton, where their son was born Aug. 9, 1935. Lee died Jan. 14, 1954. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Rue Oct. 7, 1975; two sisters, Olga McBride and Carolyn Davis, and three brothers, Carl, Frank, and Alvin Rueter. Burial in the Cozad Cemetery. NORTH PLATTE - BURGER, Loretta A., 37, died of cancer June 24, 2005. She was born Oct. 8, 1967, in North Platte to Marion Zulkoski and Elizabeth Barnum. She was adopted by Sterling Blaylock later. In 1986, she had her first daughter. Loretta married James Hatcher in 1990. Together they had two daughters. Loretta later married Robert Smallfield in 1993 and then Tom Burger in 2004. She was preceded in death by her father and a brother John Blaylock. Graveside services at Fort McPherson National Cemetery. NORTH PLATTE - DRINGMAN, Ernest William, 90, died June 23, 2005. He was born Nov. 6, 1914, to Ernest and Maude Luckett Dringman in Sutherland. On March 14, 1936, he married Nettie Maurine Golden. She preceded him in death on April 28, 1999. On May 12, 2000, he married Norma Merritt Camp in North Platte and became a step-father to her son. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers, Fred, Clarence and Paul; and a sister, Louise Stutheit. Services at the Episcopal Church of Our Savior. Irene was born Sept. 1, 1919, on the Miller place south of Somerset to William and Theodora Dunton Gaedke. In March 1958, Irene married William Rodgers of Hershey. Seven children were born to Irene. She was preceded in death by her sons, Eric Tisthammer and Emery William Rodgers; sisters Maude Haynes and Winnie Gurrican; brothers Carl, Ted, Henry Ford and William F. Jr. Gaedke; and her parents.
